So when the end of the year nears all the talk about GOTY goes into full gear because the majority of games have been released. However, why not start the talk off in mid-January? I would have to say that from all the videos and stuff bioware has said Mass Effect 2 has to be a front runner so far for GOTY. If Dragon Age was any indication of the games to come I only have hype to throw on the Mass Effect 2 hype fire.

Obviously there will be other outstanding games this year (should shape up to be a great year) such as hard rain EDIT Heavy Rain, FF XIII, etc. So what kinda chances you guys think (without knowing much about video games in 2010) Mass Effect has at GOTY?

And yes I know this is a completely ridiculous topic at this point and time but just go with it.

We don't know all the games that are coming out.
We don't know how good the games that are coming out will be.
We don't know how good Mass Effect 2 will be.
There are multiple sources giving game of the year awards, it only takes one to make a game of the year edition.
Quality does not mean you will get a game of the year award. (See Uncharted 2.)

I'd give it a pretty good chance.
It is a sequel to a widely acknowledged game which is generally liked by most people.

Is there some kind of secret campaign to intentionally mis-name Heavy Rain [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_Rain] "Hard Rain" in order to throw people off the scent of a potentially amazing experience or something? This is probably the dozen...nth time I've seen this happen on the Escapist alone.

Just sayin'

Far too soon to tell. Dante's Inferno is due out this year, as is Halo: Reach if memory serves, and even Heavy Rain could make a decent showing, among other big name titles. It's anybody's game, really.

I think it stands as much of a chance as any other good game for GOTY. RPG of the Year? I'd say that that is fairly likely.

I just hope there won't be any witches in the Sugar Mill.

High five if you got that joke.

Umm...the game isn't even out yet.

This year just began.

ME is an awesome series but to wonder about GOTY this early shows a pretentiousness I'd expect from MW fans...0o

i have no believes for ME2. i found the first 1 extremely rubbish (altho i know many other people love it), and my rig is getting old, so i´d rather not set my chips on it.

to me, GOW3 or Dante´s Inferno seems like my GOTY, unless Bioware can pump out Dragon Age´s sequel really fast (with fixed console graphics, mind you).

the most exciting about Dante´s Inferno gotta be that they stayed true to Aliegheri´s Lucifer (a giant demon frozen in a lake of his own tears).

No because they usually give it to games that come out later in the year.
I remember one site giving an award to burnout paradise in its respective year, and that came out in like January

I'm a huge ME fan, but even I have to say that posting one of these before the game's even been launched is a little premature. The game looks good, but I reserve all judgment and speculation regarding GOTY until I've actually played it.

What does it even matter? GOTY is just a title, and one that only shows that a game was liked by reviewers (and occasionally, sold well). I don't enjoy Hearts of Iron II any less just because it never became Game of the Year. Nor do I enjoy my Operation Flashpoint more because it became GOTY.

That's your opinion. I actually found the game quite brilliant (Assassin's Creed 2 was my favorite for GOTY but U2 was close second). And I guess my opinion represents the majority, considering it was open vote and won, despite being on the least popular console only.

Did you even play it? Considering lack of PSN on your profile I'm guessing no.
