Hey I didn't see a topic for this on the board so I guess I'll put it up here. Bioware released a little teaser for the next ME. I don't think I have ever screemed like a little girl before then but I did when I found out about this news. Now it is time for a little speculation. Do you think Shepard is really dead?

I don't know, killing of Shepard is a good way to get in a New Character, but I was looking forward to hoping back in the shoes of a character I really liked playing.

What would be a cool move would be to have Shepard be "Dead" and to have a new character following his/her trail, eventually having the player pick up as Shepard after a while.

I doubt it. The first game hinted at quite a bit more for Shepard to accomplish. The bit that says "known alien associates" hints at a conflict between the aliens and humans though.

I cannot make myself believe he is dead. So, no, he is not dead. But the Geth in spectre armour at the end tripped me up. All I can say is: Shiver me timbers!

I don't think we will have to wait until the release to find out if he/she is really dead. I think that we will definately get a full blown preview either between now and GDC or a short time after GDC.

1. This is in several places on the forums; it's even official news now.

2. Shepard isn't dead; I'm almost 100% certain. On the Mass Effect website, it shows the video played by Cerberus computer, and whether it's propaganda or they really believe it, you've got to question the source.

3. He is most likely undercover or simply believed dead after the attack on the Citadel.

4. There have so many interviews and quotes saying that the Mass Effect trilogy is Shepard's story, and that your character will carry over into the next game, choice, consequences and all.

If they killed off Shepherd, then EA could conceivably do ME2 for the PS3, instead of using the PC version as an excuse to say it's "multi-platform." (BTW, nothing against you PC gamers, it's just not my thing.)

However, they were talking about bringing over your character and his/her actions from the first game, so they probably won't kill Shepherd off. Unless gamers everywhere hate the idea of killing him; then EA will totally do it.

To be fair, EA is getting a bit better about that. Not much, but baby steps.

The scanner system in the trailer refers to a company in Mass Effect's universe that is pro-human, tht's why it lists his alien assosiates. But I don't think they should cheap us out like with saint's row 2's remade character idea. You know, where they throw the bullshit about facial construction surgery at you to make up for the fact they had no idea how to transfer a character.Bioware should follow in Penny Arcade's steps and jive you the choice between scrapping all your hard work, or continuing.

Nope and anyone that thinks so really needs to watch more t.v.... Did you see the body than no (even than dont believe it) also thats one hell of a bit of info if he was really dead its like if the teaser of bioshock told you ur character was a being controlled the whole time.. Its to much info to soon to be reliable

No way he's dead. Bioware has explicitly said that the trilogy would follow Shepard.
I agree that he is probably alive but the more interesting thing is what the hell is a Geth doing with that armor? Or even wearing any armor for that matter?

I reckon you'll be some kind of similar space marine type who goes with a crack squad of aliens around the galaxy searching for Shepard. There are plenty of ways to kill him and still have an adequate plot for the sequel.

Your new squad-mate maybe?

A Geth who went through special Alliance training for spec ops? Not bloody likely.

Yeah that "known alien associates" thing seems to hint to me that there has been a serious breakdown between the alliance and its human contingent. So not only is there the lingering threat of the Geth, but Shepherd has to worry about being a fugitive, possibly hunted by death squads of other humans who see him as a race traitor.
The possibilities are enormous. I can't wait to see what they do with this. Plus I hope Garrus returns. Him and Liara had my back more times than I can count.

Not directly after the events of the first game, no. But who knows? Maybe there was a Geth rebellion and half of them split off to go and join the humans (fanciful I know, but not impossible).

Ditto. Garrus, Wrex and Tali had better return.

Isn't that sorta what happened in DMC4?
