Meh... none of my characters from the first game looked good, so I had to redesign them in the second one anyway. I'm probably going to be redesigning them again in 3 anyway, since I'm never satisfied with how they look. Still, it sucks for the people who were happy with their Shepards, hopefully BioWare releases a patch for the benefit of those other people.

I can see why some people don't care about this, but this annoys me like all hell. I'm using the standard FemShep from the first two games, and I think it fits like a glove. I want that look, not the new "look how rough, yet hot as fuck I am" FemShep. Seriously, fuck that.

I opened ME2 and took lots of pictures of my Shep from different angles. I will painstakingly re-create him if it comes to that (and that's assuming they still have all of the features from the previous games).

If there's a silver lining to this, it's that I can give him his old ME1 era scar back...

Yeah I noticed that. I was watching my brother play and it said that, so he went to the custom face and the face that showed up was pretty much the correct face, just needing the right facial hair and hair color. It was silly, but still going to be annoying when I go to play it.

I just imported my Shepard from ME1, and he kept his face.

Granted he looks a bit different in the modified engine, but still, looks basically like him. Is this a legit bug or are people just bitching about Bioware again? I have a hard time telling.
In light of this, is this not the Cloud import bug?
I'm betting it is. I've read quite a number of ME3 reviews today, and none of them stated any problems importing characters (yes, including the reviews that weren't 'everyman' playthroughs).
I hope to Christ this is true, otherwise it would be a major fuck up from Bioware to cut off the visual connection with the player's Shep, in the final game no less.

My friend had the same issue with his Shep, but I was able to transfer mine fine and I didn't change anything when I imported from 1 to 2...

It wouldn't look the way it should even if it did work. Importing Shepards from ME2 don't look right at all... at least not for me anyway :/
Yeah my ME shep looked alright but ported over to ME2 she looked like she had a strange waxwork face. So for me basically it's as if ME2 didn't port over the face cos i had to start again anyway.

Yes its annoying but it shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Yeah I was really disappointed witht this. I've used the same Shep since '08 fo my canon run. Recreating him with the new creater ws tough as and he doesn't look quite like my shep.

Was this on PC or consoles? I have yet to try it on consoles as I will pick up the game later today

Nope, totally seperate issue. The save imports just fine but when you get to the face customization screen you get and error saying the game can't recognize the face code and you need to create a new face.

One of the tings I hated about ME 2 was that if you wanted to "Tweak" Shep's face you had to start all over from scratch.

You couldn't just fix the fucking lips or hair on your ME 1 import you had to go all the way back to the default Shep and start all over. Fuck.

I hope I don't run into this issue. I doubt it'll happen to my Male-Shep because it's the standard male model from ME2 (I made no changes because I didn't think I could do any better.) My Fem Shep on the other hand I customized quite a bit to look as bitchy looking as possible, and I like her cracked skin and glowing red eyes. Thankfully I don't have the game yet because I still haven't completely finished ME2(Male Shep game finished but with no DLC implications, while Fem Shep hasn't finished the game yet.) Hopefully some patches will fix all these bugs, but something tells me that these were outstanding bugs that EA decided to have fixed post release, because no COMPETENT organization would allow such a flaw to get past their QA department.

Importing Shepards is just a failed marketing gimmick. None of the decisions made in past games end up being important. It seems like they put far more effort into "making the series accessible to new fans" than they spend on making the experience deeper and more personalized for existing fans.
