So we've still got the brain dead glowing space fetus. Great. It's still incredibly stupid, except now people have the "it's free" excuse to lazily deflect any and all criticism, yet another reason to call us entitled like parrots, and another chance to completely miss the point. It's a step in the right direction, but doesn't make the god child less retarded.

Well I'm not that psyched about this DLC. It merely expands upon the ending, which sucked big time. They won't change the ending, giving us still no choice in the final decision. I will play it to see how the game ends, but I don't have high hopes after reading the blogpost.

While I praise BioWare for listening to their customers, I criticise them for sacrificing their creative integrity in order to cater to people with the maturity, tactfulness, and worldview of toddlers. So +1 Cool Company Point, -1 Cool Company Point.

The Bioware forums are ablaze with QQ right now. Im disgusted by the fan base complaining about free improvement on the ending. If I were a dev I'd just avoid those forums and let the people vent amongst themselves
simply put the fan base are complaining that the ending is so out of character with the game, so broken, so non sensical that no amount of clarity will fix it short of a complete reshoot of the ending
Given that the overall logic behind the "synthetics will kill organics eventually" is correct because over a long term any and all things that have a probability of even 0.0000000001% will happen inevitably, the real things they really need to clarify are

1. The Normandy stuff
2. How the FFFFFFFFFFFF did your squadmates get on the Normandy

Those are really the only two big plot-holes.

Well, at least now I have the question of whether they simply dropped the ball with the ending by accident or were planning on selling us the real ending later answered. I'm glad they just made a mistake.

That said, I don't expect this "extended cut" to actually answer anything satisfactorily. Hopefully I'm wrong and end up pleasantly surprised... but I doubt I will be.

As anyone really brought up the fact that the Reapers are counter-productive to their supposed purpose? "Synthetics will kill organic life." What are Reapers? Synthetics. What is their purpose? To kill organics before the synthetics that the organics built kill them. How does that make any sense, at all?

A part of this is good and all, but I can't be the only one thinking, "great, something else I can watch on YouTube. Awesome."

I feel like this is a poor attempt at pacification that will, sadly, probably work. I can say for sure that I won't be buying any additional ME3 DLC, and any new BioWare games will be bought once the price drops significantly. Or used. Probably used.

That and my eternal hatred for EA will continue to burn brighter than the fires of a thousand suns. But that's nothing new.

soo... were still stuck with the idiotic "pick your color" bullshit?
if so, no thanks. I'll just buy something that doesn't make me want to turn into the hulk.

I note an asterisk on the "no extra charge" part. Maybe it's not as free as we think...?

It stops being free in 2014 for some reason...
They will likely package it with the game on a GOTY edition by 2014.

I am actually ok with them expanding on the ending they already made. When previously I would of been pissed if they actually changed it due to fan outcry.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BioWare, a Label of Electronic Arts Inc. announced Mass Effect? 3: Extended Cut, a downloadable content pack that will expand upon the events at the end of the critically acclaimed Action RPG. Through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes, the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will give fans seeking further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3 deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes. Coming this summer, the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will be available for download on the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC for no extra charge*.

?We are all incredibly proud of Mass Effect 3 and the work done by Casey Hudson and team,? said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Co-Founder of BioWare and General Manager of EA?s BioWare Label. ?Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team?s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.?

Casey Hudson, Executive Producer of the Mass Effect series added, ?We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player.?
Well shit, what do you guys think?

In case you don't follow the link it explicitly states it will be free. EA giving out something for free... today's one of those rare sorts I presume.
I think this should have been announced the first week, not a full month after calling us entitled whiny vocal fanboi minority.

Bioware can go fuck itself and disappear for all I care now.

you arent the only one.. at this stage it doesnt sound worth all the effort of reinstalling the game to see the "clarification" youtube here i come. i wont be getting any of the paid dlc and definitly will be parting ways with bioware after this.. judging from them now tapped to make C&C generals 2 EA might be planning to do to bioware what it did to westwood. a history lesson for you young whipper snappers.. westwood back in the day was THE rpg game company that was till EA got their mits on it
It was their acquisition and subsequent annihilation of all that was good about Westwood that started my hatred of the company. Since then they've only managed to increase that over and over. At one point I had hope they were on the right track to improving as a company. Then they took that hope, blew their noses into it, crushed it in their hands and threw it into a fire. Bastards.

Westwood made RTS not RPGs

Also command and conquer Red alert 2, the fan favorite game, was made when Westwood was owned by Ea.

Bioware can go fuck itself and disappear for all I care now.
So they make one mistake (the ending) and then FIX that mistake (at least partially) for NO COST TO YOU (and lots of work for animators and writers ect) and they can go fuck themselves. Wow...ok sorry, what was it you were saying about 'entitled whiny vocal fanboi minority'?

They made Nox, right?

Sorry, can't help you fix your car. Saving a magical kingdom at the moment, brb.
I had forgotten about NOX, probably because of how forgettable the game was.

Yes, its official, the precedent has been set and the ending will now be ruined.

Congratulations, The game, the players, the company, consumers are now worse off for this.

Other thought:
With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision
This for all the people who said that changing the ending would not be compromising artistic vision. This is straight from the horses mouth, they had to sacrifice their vision, in order to appease so many irrational people, If they had to strike a balance, they had to compromise the vision to make a balance for the players.

But if nothing else, this is a good thing. The damage is now done, and at least this beast can be put to rest and people can shut the hell up about it. Im glad its over, even thought its the worst possible outcome. Oh well.

The fact that it's free leads me to believe that it'll just be a Dragon Age: Origins style slideshow explaining what happened to the characters, and what effects your decisions throughout the series have on the aftermath. Also... I hope they fix the ending flashback. I was so annoyed seeing Liara in place of Tali when Shepard was dying. It was bad enough they pretty much force Liara down your throat the majority of the game in the first place.

At this point I'll just take whatever I can get that makes the ending at least slightly less nihilistic.
