I think EA is shooting themselves in the foot with them refusing to put their games of steam. Their losing a lot of sales over something that wasn't a problem for them before, but is apparently a huge deal now that they have their own digital download service. Its a shame to because I really like some of the series the EA has rights to.

It's actually Valve that's being the greedy company here (Or well... Both companies being the "greedy company" just Valve being greedier). The "restrictive" polices has nothing to do with spying, it has something to do with the delivery of downloadable content. Valve wants a slice out of those sales as well now.

Before you go off saying "But Dragon Age 1 had DLCs not sold by valve!" That is because they signed a different contract so it wasn't applied retroactively... Unlike Dragon Age 2 or Crysis 2. Didn't you connect the dots here and notice that Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2 were both taken down the same time they released some new DLC? Although it's brilliant watching the amount of company loyalty you're showing to Valve by putting EA up as the bastards in this ordeal "just cause".

Valve doesn't have to do a thing and they will win the argument simply because of their fans jumping the gun and assuming it's the other companies fault and not theirs.

well, few say that in the ME3 forum ( http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/8975536/175 just one here at least) they have checked the activity of origin and said that it does check now only origin related folders. after germany yelled out, ?A did change things. but even then, i still will not install this crap on my pc.
i just dont trust ?A, im pretty sure they will stab me/everyone in the back when they have the chance.

was also thinking about the sandbox program, but its too much of a hassle for me to do when i look at this http://www.totalbantercommunity.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=632 . i dont want to jump through loops just to play a game. better of not buying it and rather play max payne 3 which is also coming out in march. at least this doesnt require origin.

Congrats EA/Bioware. You just lost a sale from me and all of my support, present and future. I'm not going to reward EA for being a MASSIVE wanker with this Origin spyware shit. I tolerated these jerks for years, but now... nope. I hope ME3 sales fucking choke and/or that there is an insane amount of piracy.

It's a shame, really. I actually like the ME series too. Guess i'll have to deal with this in my own way. *sigh*

Now does that mean I can run the game without starting Origin after the first time? If so, who cares if I have Origin? I'd never need to run it again.
Origin starts accessing EVERYTHING, including, I've seen, Steam when you hit the installer. Before you've even agreed to anything. It'll mine all your data in one big long glump (I would imagine that part of the install progress bar would be for that)

Apparently there's a way to limit what Origin accesses using something called Sandboxie

Lucky me :)

I own ME 1 and 2 for the 360. Was thinking about picking them up on Steam Sale over the holidays for the PC ($5 each) and playing through it before the 3rd came out. Decided against, and now that decision seems even better.

Besides, Commander Shepard deserves a 55" screen ;)

And Valve SHOULD get a cut of the DLC sales. Valve/Steam is paying to host the content, paying to advertise it and deliver it to you. Why wouldn't they get a part of the profits?

Think if it like a regular store. If Mass Effect DLC was sold at Best Buy, they get a cut.

EA is really starting to push my buttons. Bioware as well. Bioware are sellouts and EA are just downright evil greedy bastards. I'm really not sure I'll be buying this now. Until EA ditches Origins and online passes(Which is never) I will always hate them. Kingdoms of Amulur (Maybe Me3, but this is making me rethink my decision) is likely the last game I buy from them in the foreseeable future. The gaming industry has to be one of the only ones that actually hates the consumers and tries to make it as hard as possible to purchase and enjoy a game.

It's even better when it's on a 360 because you can buy it used, which gives EA nothing.
I'm not petty enough to screw Bioware just to get at EA, chances are I'll be getting a new copy of ME3, but I will be damned if I install Origin to play it, especially if EA're being douches about how the conduct themselves.

Is this really how you want to get to move more people from Steam to Origin EA?
Origin may not be bad but there is no reason for me to go from Steam to Origin. It doesn't do anything better than Steam. They need to add some features which would make me think, that it's worth it to switch to Origin. Just having some games not on Steam won't achieve that. That's the wrong way of thinking in my opinion. Sure, Steam wasn't really good at the beginning either but that was seven or eight years ago. You were able to learn from Steam, while Valve pretty much pioneered back then.
Combined with you having a bad reputation in the gaming world, I don't see how it's benefitting for EA to pull off games from a place with 40million active accounts.
This is it in a nutshell for me. EA has had plenty of time to look at exactly what Valve does with their service, make as much of a copy as they can to succeed, and yet have failed utterly to offer one specific area in which they exceed what Valve's service offers aside from a few exclusive titles. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though) :) There's absolutely no incentive to give Origin more then a passing glance, imo.

I think more competition in the digital download services area is a wonderful thing, but each provider needs to step up with something unique to have it worth having/using. EA and Origin do not, sadly.

First they ***** about not getting their pretty dosh with used sales, so they ram in their crappy codes to their poor customers to unlock the full game, now they're bitching about Steam not giving them 100% of their dosh and they ram in their shitty little spyware to their poor customers.

You see folks?, that's how air headed corporate pricks should do their PR.

I was gonna throw siomething like this out there: 'Hah, another reason why PC is less user friendly' but I soooo wanna play Diablo III and Wings Of Liberty.

Steam doesn't come to me as restrictive. I am terrible at installing games on my PC if they are not original but I was able to install, play and finish the first Portal. Go figure. EA's move falls squarely into the 'Yeah, I knew they would do that' category. It's a dick move and I would want them to suffer for but if they do, Bioware will as well.

Nothing against BioWare, but I'm completely boycotting buying new games from EA. I am also doing the same for Ubisoft until they stop hating the PC crowd and Activision for Bobby Kotick.

While I am a Steam user, I was planning to get a retail copy since I already own retail copies of ME1 & 2 and because I'm hoping for a good collector's edition.
I'm not too worried about Origin. I got Fallout 3 shortly after launch and I was able to quickly find a fix that removed GFWL from the game completely (It improved performance and reduced crashing). I hope ME3 will get the same treatment.
I'll do whatever I can to avoid Origin since I already chose a digital distribution program and I won't use multiple programs.

Has anyone else noticed that whenever a company has an issue with another company's policy, they play the blame game and accuse the other company of being "too restrictive" in some sense or another?

I mean, it happens all the time, and I'm pretty sure this is just EA creating another excuse to keep its games off of steam to promote origin without just flat out saying so.

Gods... Well lets put it this way: I've already pre-bought Mass Effect 3, so after that, don't EVER expect me to give you money again EA, you've basically been pissing on anyone who disagrees with you since 2008...

Now if for some reason another mass effect game comes out, I'll just have to circumvent paying EA.

Once again, read their ToS/EULA and Privacy Policy, it is written in plain English. Of course I recommend reading the ToS/EULA before applying any updates to make sure the terms you originally agreed to still apply. If they change the EULA/ToS you have the right to revert the agreement to the one you first agreed to if you contact them about it.
Yeah I have read it, the vagueness of the wording doesn't expressly forbid them from raiding your computer, collecting and selling your info. If it were as plain english as you suggest, then they would explicitly state that they will not scan your computer, compile your information and sell it.
