I have a habit of asking questions on "outdated" games, but you all don't seem to mind.

(Spoilers, but come on, the game is years old)

Anyway. In ME3 there's allegedly an option to save Kelly Chambers from getting gunned down during the Cerberus Citadel attack.

The wiki article only says this is possible but it doesn't really give me any pre-reqs. Apparently I can convince her to get a new identity, but...

I've done dozens upon dozens of playthroughs and she is ALWAYS killed. Not once do I find this option.
I visit the Citadel pretty much after every mission I do, even the side ones.

But even with the Genophage Cure mission left to do (Right before the Citadel attack), Kelly doesn't have any dialog to help me recommend a new identity.

Is there some invisible requirement I cannot seem to locate?

Renegade talk her when you get the chance.

I think she kills herself anyway though so w/e.

The option to have her get a new identity is when you first find her on the Citadel, not sure if that's how you save her though.

Yea she kills herself if you reprimand her for sending reports to the Illusive Man.

That's... not what I'm going for.

Negative. She's just happy to see me.

Second meeting is just general conversation.

From what I remember you'll need to do the "romance" option with her in the 2nd game then when you talk to her in 3 pick one of the renegade responses that tells her not to take chances. The other choice is for her to dedicate her time to the refugees instead. I hope this helps.

So I'm already too late.
Eh, maybe next playthrough.

NO! You are not too late. I got to that part and found out that she died. I immediately restarted my entire game in order to prevent that from happening.
What you do is, when you go talk to Kelly, be nice to her. Tell her you understand why she did what she did. Eventually, she'll bring up the fact that Cerberus is tracking down people who left them. When this happens, pick the bottom option, telling her to change her identity. You may have to talk to her more than once, I but I know it's there and I've only had one of my three characters 'romance' her. That would be an insane requirement. Shepard will only bother to save you if she romanced you? No way, Shepard saves everyone (well, mine does anyway), whether they were a hot stripper outfit or not.
Anyway, after you tell her to change ID, she'll vanish for a while, then show up again as a blonde. That's how you save her, because when the coup happens, she looks different and has different papers so they don't know it's her.

I was so upset when I found out she wasn't returning to my crew. I liked her a lot more than Traynor. Plus, could you imagine the fun Traynor and her could have?

Ahaha. I'm 12 hours into this game, I'm not restarting for that detail.

However this is certainly noted for the next playthrough, though.

Wow, thats some dedication to a fictional character. I mean, I was gutted when I found out she had died, it really bummed me out for a little while. But not once did I think about restarting the game to save her (I will next time) and I'm one of the people who reloaded his last save over and over again to save Malik in Deus Ex:HR.

That's nothing. I follow a couple of gaming "Confession" blogs on Tumblr. People get pretty crazy.

It's strange, I honestly can't remember her in Mass Effect 3 whatsoever. I know who the character is and I did save her in ME2, but in 3... no, nothing I can't even remember meeting her.

Huh. Odd.

Technically it's a toothbrush of massaged gums and lock picking +5.

I wandered why Chambers didn't end up on Normandy, I'd got Adams, Chakwas, Gabby and Ken, why not her as well? Plus a cat fight between her and Traynor over Femshep would be hilarious...

I didn't meet her either. Supposedly you can't meet her if you didn't have the small lunch date with her in your cabin in ME2, which I didn't. But my cousin didn't have that happen either and he still met her, so I have no clue.

Was a bit of a sad panda.

Well, for the people who haven't found her, she's in the Citadel refugee camp near the middle, in one of the cubed sections of people receiving treatment. At the start of the game, Garrus is in one of the cubed off areas as well, and in another one, you can find the Batarian store with shotgun upgrades.

I'm not sure if you had to have talked to her in 2 in the specific way to have dinner with her in order for her to appear in 3.

In any case, if you're talking to her in 3, and when she mentions that Cerberus may not have taken well to the fact that she left, the bottom-right option should appear, and it tells her to change her identity. Convincing her to do this is what will save her life. If not, after the Citadel is attacked, you will hear people around her spot saying that she was killed. If Ken and Gabby are brought back to the Normandy, they will also comment on if she was killed or not. Apparently, they shoot her point-blank between the eyes.

At first, I thought it was a mandatory death, because I didn't think telling her to change her name would actually convince her to do that.

And yeah, if you scold her later when she says she send info on you back to TIM, she will swallow a cyanide capsule.

Nah, you can still meet her. She's just REALLY easy to miss. She doesn't get a diamond over her like the other talk-to NPCs, and the map doesn't list her, she's just...there. Plus she doesn't have a unique model or face or anything.
I must have missed her then, which is odd because I'm a bit of a completionist when it comes to these things and have easily spent hours just wandering in semi-open areas like ME's Citadel listening to NPC talk and seeing if there's any mischief to be had.

Guess whenever I get around to replaying the ME games I'll have to keep an eye open for her. Can't say I really liked her as a character but I never hated her either and I'm always game for more content.

I failed to tell her to change identities, and when I found out that she was killed I was like :0

I'm doing another playthrough, and might try to fix that lol...but it was one of those moments where I was kicking myself for it
say what you want about ME3, but damn that game got to me haha...

I think it only works if she... Um "fed your fish" in the second game

Renegade talk to her to get her to change her identity.

After the Citadel attack she'll be blonde

You can romance her if you're single at the end of ME3.

She's actually the second best romance option for Male Shepard (Especially if you're not into Tali)

I do know that I searched around the area where she is suppose to show up a bunch of times, but I never met her. Of course, I can't be sure if she didn't randomly show up on a time when I didn't check, and I'm sure after the Citadel events in that game even if I wanted her to show up, she won't because her fate is so tied into that. Can't exactly know for sure since its been a while. Her name wasn't added to the memorial wall though, which I thought would happen since I didn't meet her and thus she would probably be dead. But nope, apparently Kelly Chambers is running around somewhere in the Galaxy for me.

I mean, I would have identically got her killed regardless since I always pick the Paragon options (Can't help it, too much of a nice guy, lol), but still.

This wouldn't be the first time I've had a "glitch" happen to me though. In DA2 I never ran into Nathaniel Howe even though he was alive in Awakening. And my cousin in ME3 regarding Miranda's fate...

He romanced her in ME2, but broke up with her in ME3 for Liara. This SHOULD have killed Miranda off, even if you do everything in your power to help her, Kai Leng will kill her. But for him, she stayed alive. I don't know if taking a certain Renegade or Paragon action with her father determines what happens to her, but according to what people have found out, breaking up with her is supposed to kill her.

Though if that Miranda thing WAS a "glitch", it was a beneficial one for my cousin.

Haha, in Mass Effect 2 after she and the rest of the crew get kidnapped I did the same thing... well I didn't restart my whole game but I went back considerable hours just to make sure that I saved her.
