Call me a cynic, but this is one of those cases where everyone (legitimately) complains, but in the end, all the dough will flow into their pockets anyway, and they'll be smiling smugly at the end of the day, completely unphased

Such a shame. I like Bioware. I really do. But ever since they were bought out, I've felt less excited with each game because EA meddles with them so much and doesn't give them their promised space and freedom to work in.

I used to like bioware, in gaming years, a long time ago. They've not made a product I found compelling in quite some time.

All this noise about how great ME and DA is makes me laugh, they're nothing but pale shadows of what bioware used to make. And every iteration dumbs down the genre still further. The process has only been accelerated because of their new masters.

Origin is fine and I don't have an issues with it although I don't plan on getting it on PC since I started ME on 360 and wanted to finish it off that way.

Actually I've got plenty of hate to go round here, I can share. I'll give in equal parts by loathing of both Origin and most especially EA.

I was just thinking the pathetic misunderstanding of the word hypocrisy was what stood out as interesting in this thread to me.

Origin is why I stopped playing BF3. And I bought the limited edition, I also got it because I'd been looking forward to playing a BF game with my old clan in a long long time.

A platform that runs from my internet browser? (it also has trouble identifying why my games won't launch, I had to spend hours trying to fix everything myself. So all it is is just an ass-wall) this just screams cheap and problematic like a howler monkey caught in a wood-chipper.

They analyze your computer's components, hardware- and software-wise, yet we don't scrutinize them for it because they've been doing it since day one, and thus no one has really noticed.

To be honest, I couldn't care less that these digital distributors are looking at my computer. I mean, I give them my fucking credit card information and email address, why wouldn't I trust them?

Citation needed. Neither EULA nor privacy policy makes any mention of the nefarious activities Origin gets up to. Other posters have also noted that when Steam wants information, Steam asks for it. There is a tremendous difference here.

It simply means that SW:ToR doesn't need the added security layer of a DRM service, just like any other mmo.

Asks if it can collect it, then asks permission to submit it Valve, then only bothers to look at your HARDWARE profile (and rarely peripherals) and Steam program usage, and even then they ONLY use it internally for demographic and trend research. There's no sharing that data with "affiliates". Which is something that comes up quite often in Origin's EULA. (affiliates, by the way, is clever lawyer speak for "anyone we decide to (associate) with". Ergo, anyone who wants to buy that info)

Yet, there are those that keep defending Origin because they think Steam does the same thing. Laughable.

Actually, they started the hate train on Valve long before they started the mud-slinging with Activision. Almost a full year prior, in fact.

EA has really shown itself for the childish, whiny assholes that they are. The last game I bought from them was Dead Space 2. I would NOT be surprised if it stayed the last.

Good on Valve for playing the "adult" in all of this and not retaliating towards EA with the same PR mud-slinging BS. Speaks volumes on the types of people running each company.

I'm a big enough Mass Effect fan and have multiple playthroughs saved on PC, I'm not missing out on completing the trilogy over this.

ME is hardly interesting enough to do business with EA for, not even close. DA even less so. And BF3 should be renamed BC3 w/ new maps. If this is what triple AAA looks like from EA these days, I certainly won't miss not doing business with them. And by extension Bioware for being stupid enough to join up with them.

Their games have the same lack of originality as the Hollywood studio system they're clearly mimicking because they are shallow suits with inferiority complexes. Which is more than just a little ironic because the industry they're a part of makes more money than the one they're stealing all the worst business model ideas from.

that was about as extreme as my reaction got when i read this. im not a big fan of bioware. in my opinion, baldurs gate 2 was their last great game. every game since then, i have either expected more from (dragon age origins) or just flat out hated (kotor). i thought mass effect was decent, that it. not terrible but certainly not great either. i got 2 hours in to mass effect 2 before i just got bored and quit playing. even if the game were coming out on steam, it wouldnt be anywhere near the top of my list and i never planned to spend much money on it.

The only experience I've had with Origin is playing Battlefield 3 at my friend's house, and remember how the devs were bragging about it loading up really fast? Heck no--it literally took 5 minutes to load on a 50mbps connection with a $2000 gaming computer from 2011. I'm tempted to believe that's Origin's doing.

I'm not a big fan of Steam, but I prefer it to direct downloads since my connection cuts out every few minutes (3G). Still, it starts up Cave Story pretty fast, and that's all I need it for.
