still dont understand. origin is shit, yeah, but whats the big fuss about that info? its not like they sell it to al-qaida. you people need to chill the fuck out. i am ao anonymous, you say.
do you use facebook guys? know what? it does the same thing.
Apart from it being 2002-Steam, it is same.
well they could sell to al-qaida you have given them that right , that kind of is the big point about it all
ofc they probably wont but this is a perfect example of the problems with social profiling and the sort of information Origin takes. it will be possible to find lists of just about any group for any reason, terrorists looking for service men, boss's screening out people that have looked for jobs more than once in the last 5 years or anyone thinking of moving or having a baby to just plain banning applicants with hobbies they don't like. banks refusing loans or any services at all. and of course if you want the most obvious example of why social profiling isn't a good thing , go ask the Jews about 1930/40's Germany.
Origin allows EA to profit by making a tool that can only be bad for us it can only be discriminative you may think "well I've got no porn or pirated games so it wont affect me" but you are wrong in a terrifying number of ways this will have the ability to bite you on the arse in every aspect of your life. looking for a school, a job, a loan have an opinion, likes or dislikes? then this will negatively impact you.
Last point , ffs STOP comparing origin and steam they do not do the same thing
Steam- multi /any developer platform works within the free market ideal sells everyone stuff without bias (ok there is a pre order bonus war going on but its being fought on all fronts)
its good for the industry it promotes and allows a lot of indie devs to actually get distribution it brings a vast array of games to the market and has drastically altered/improves the way PC games sell. now games have a infinite shelf life they keep generating profit past the first 3/6 months. we gain a huge catalogue of games and ofc their are the sales... 50-90% we've all seen them im sure.
Origin- Single publisher platform that doesn't allow competition
reams the user for pre order charges were other sights give discounts for pre orders.
restricts the market by not allowing competing services access to their product. its a vertical monopoly and it exploits it to the consumers detriment.
it also invades your personal rights and sets you up to be discriminated against in every aspect of your life.
We are at the start of the big personal data collection/pooling push make a stand now or in 10 years look back and go wtf, patriot act, sopa, now this how often do you have to give them permission before you realise its your fault for handing them the lube?
<...not buying ME3 if it requires origin. its not an over action its not a tinfoil hat reaction, its the sensible thing for any intelligent person.
