Max Payne 3 Review from Gametrailers

I personally find the review a bit weird, the game looks like it does what a Max Payne game should be so I kind of dont understand what they were expecting from it.

They complain about some weird shit, a lot of it seemed to just come down to them sucking. Apparently enemies that accurate, engage at range, capable of using cover and flanking is a bad thing. I also find it hilarious how they rate COD's story better than that of Max Payne's. I don't even know how that's possible.

Another one that really hit me was that complaint of jumping and landing behind cover not being able to hit the enemies. Well, then dont jump and land behind cover, it doesnt seem hard.

If what GT says is true, max payne has turned into a bit of a cover shooter (which it isnt supposed to be!).


Or maybe they just suck and have to use cover

I can't believe that they called his Hawaiian shirt cheesy, it's awesome. I might pre order it this week on amazon, it's below the average price on amazon so it's not that big a loss if it's total shite. It looks awesome to me.

IGN has it pegged at a 9 and Joysitq gave it a 4.5/5. Seems like a solid game to me from both reviews. Pretty sad I have to wait another 3 weeks.

So I watched this review. It seems actually quite fair. What is the problem? Complaints about overaccurate AI on long distance shows that the AI is not well enough written. That bullet time seems to be rather useless in the SP mapdesign is also a valid complaint, especially if it is the opposite in MP.

Its just that the accurate AI was present on the other Max Payne games too and they were never a problem to deal with since the player has the advantage of bullet time, the player can dodge the bullets manually and not just by using the slo-mo dive (since Max gets quite vulnerable when lying on the floor).

If they said in the review that bullet time didnt worked properly and was underpowered in comparision the the other 2 games (like being more difficult to avoid getting shot) I would understand better but from what they said the bullet time works like it did on the other games so I dont really see how later on in the game they had to camp in a corner and do slomo headshots one at a time.

For me it just seemed that this kind of game isnt exactly the kind of game the reviewer usually plays.

I obviously haven't played it yet, but the review did strike me as a bit unfair, especially considering the rest of the (very positive) opinions around the net. Though I won't eliminate the posibility that other publications are overrating the game, I will say that their criticisms of the game's controls and difficulty seem a bit... fishy, considering how much praise those specific elements have received from essentially every source.

Not that we should immediately disreagard the opinion (never smart), it just seems likely that this particular review is not very representative of the game. On the other hand, I can certainly see the game's presentation being somewhat divisive.

The thing that bothers me the most is that they gave Kane and Lynch 2 a higher score (8.1). It's not a matter of scores getting to me, trust me I've have given up on review scores with numerical values, it's a matter of poor preference of one thing over another.

Apparently they haven't played the previous Max Payne games where Max states he has a fondness for Hawaiian shirts.

They had a different opinion than what was popular among gamers so everyone goes and says they are idiots or that they should never be taken seriously.

People are allowed to have different opinions. The review did not like the story and his score reflected that. Others loved the story and so their score were higher. If the gripes they had with the story don't sound bad to you then that's your opinion.

It currently has an 88 average on Metacritic so this reviewer's opinion is definitely a minority but that doesn't mean it needs to be completely discredited and bashed.

I'm not actually sure why I'm trying to appeal to reason. This is the internet after all...

It`s one of those "look, look here, we don`t give into the hype, loOOOOOoook"-reviews. Gametrailers and Edge(they gave a 7) are trying desperatly to stand out, but who knows. I haven´t played it yet but i bet it`s still better than Kane and Lynch2.
There are so many positive reviews out and from what i`m reading about MaxPayne3 it`s my kind of game.

Your post just made me realize how much of a fanboy i am now(Max Payne WEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeee). Damn those dumb reviewers who dare to give anything below 9.

Do it. You might have fun with them, they aren`t that long to play and have both aged pretty well (PCversion). If you don`t want to i heard the first two aren`t important for MP3. It shouldn`t be a reason to skip this game.
