Hmmm, you know I think I have to admit defeat on that one - with the half-rebuttal that this 95% agreement was only in the Year of Our Lord 2007. I'd like to see the whole record over Bush's 8 years. I'd also like to have a look at whether the kind of legislation Bush has been pushing has changed in this year. This isn't inconceivable; presidents start looking at their legacy in their last year of office, and that undoubtedly changes things. Furthermore, that McCain has been voting with Bush in this last year could indicate only that he's decided to play it safe with the conservative base for his last bid at the Presidency. I seem to remember some analysis of his views changing mightily between the 2004 and 2008 Republican races. This would tell us not that McCain is like Bush, but that he's sold out some of his principles for the big chair. Those are two different things.

From what I've seen, Palin looks to be a typical Republican on issues, so the only thing I can think of for McCain having chosed her is to get the Hilary supporters on his side, since a bunch of them hate Obama so much for keeping her from the nomination.

Naw, it's to round up the "base" that propelled the younger Bush to office -- social conservatives who don't really identify strongly with McCain. She's got a strong anti-abortion stance (that's the big shibboleth, the thing that gets far-right Christians out to the polls like nothing else) and her daughter's pregnancy just makes that more visible. She's also conspicuously "small-town," which is another quality that the "base" values but McCain himself seems to lack.

The news networks made a big stink about disaffected Hillary supporters potentially jumping to McCain/Palin but they had a really tough time actually finding any.

First off, it's important to understand that there is no "women's vote" in the same sense that there is a "black vote" or a "gay vote." Think about it: if there was a "women's vote," then whoever had it would win every election.

The women who voted for Clinton over Obama aren't the same women who are picking McCain/Palin over Obama/Biden. Feminist-identified Democrats -- even the ones who are rather old, still remember the turbulent past vividly, and really want to see a female president in their lifetimes -- aren't like Palin, don't want Palin, and absolutely hate the insinuation that Palin somehow represents them and their beliefs and life choices.

It's an entirely different group of women -- the ones who go to churches and anti-abortion protests and support abstinence-only education and don't identify as feminists -- that are attracted to Palin.

But, hell, even Republican women aren't exactly jumping for joy for Palin right now. Supposedly her rally crowds are like 2/3 male.

On a fair note, the reason people despise Bush and McCain is because they fail to see the good accomplished by the Bush administration. We took an enemy that wanted to attack us and moved the target from our homeland to a location in the Middle East. Sorry that we don't have time to spend money on "social programs" due to an economy that was bound to collapse regardless if we had gone to war, when the previous administration failed to properly take care of the leftovers Bush had to deal with.

1. Palin is a scary, irresponsible choice which only reflects on McCain's lack of judgement. Is he really putting country first picking someone like Palin?
2. McCain's supporters are racists, bigots, and igorant fucks who continue to chant debunked "facts". All that shit like "Obama is only one letter away from Osama" and "Obama's a secret muslim". What the fuck is a "secret muslim" anyway? And what does that even matter? Muslim does not equal TERRORIST. A vote for McCain is a vote for these kinds of people having a voice in the highest office this country has.
3. McCain's campaign is a campaign based on fear. He wants us to be afraid. Afraid of "that guy". Afraid of foreignness. Afraid of change. Afraid of truth. He plays to peoples hatred and fears. I don't want that in a president.
4. The lies. McCain is beating the old Republican drum that DEMOCRATZ ALWAYZ RAZE TAXES!!. Under Obama's tax plan (yes, this has been explained over and over again), most Americans will SAVE MONEY. Under McCain's plan, the lower-income families will be even more heavily taxed than they are under Bush. Sorry, I can't afford to be taxed MORE, McCain.

There is no such thing as being under-priveleged. I went from a $500,000 household to living under $18,000...you earn what you get in life. Screw this country's cowardice and lack of will to come together.
