Beast Wars. It was set on Prehistoric Earth. Optimus Prime got his head shot off. Then he got better.dmase said:I don't remember this guy but my first transformers series was actually the early morning jungle bots or something where they where animals. I loved that show, I meant to get back into it but haven't found the time.
Me Grimlock! Me like this news! Me strongest autobot there is, but not have strength to resist post in Grimlock speak! Sorry, Grey. Me leave this here for everyone. Is episode that cost lots of money to make, but it worth it because Grimlock the hero. Darned right.Grey Carter said:For those wondering: yes, it took a great deal of personal strength to resist the urge to write this entire news post in Grimlock's charmingly stilted idiot-speak.

From the one I remember, they chased Shockwave to Earth, and the only way for them to survive on the surface was to take the forms of the creatures living on the planet (which happened to be dinosaurs).Strife2k7 said:As far as the original cartoon goes, they were built as Dinosaurs because Dinosaurs were incredibly powerful creatures in their time. The Autobots needed some kind of edge against the Constructicons and their combined form of Devastator, and so the Dinobots were built to match their sheer strength.Warforger said:The thing I never got though was why did they need to transform into animals? What were they afraid that the dinosaurs would scare them away or something? Who were they hiding from exactly?Palademon said:That'll be awesome, although the appearance of Dinobots (and the few Aerial bots in WFC) does cause some canon issues.
Old Marvel comics placed them on Earth during the prehistoric era where they awakened long before the Autobots in the Ark and thus were converted into their present forms because there were no vehicles on Earth for them to mimic. They were buried and found again in the modern era and retained those forms.
Dreamwave/IDW gave them a more fleshed-out backstory during the war on Cybertron and new tank alt-forms. Swoop was a jet of some kind in those stories. I was hoping that's what we'd see in Fall of Cybertron, but the Game Informer cover the Kotaku article references clearly shows Grimlock as a T-Rex, so perhaps they wind up on Earth afterall during the game.

I was skipping over details just for the sake of brevity, but yeah they were on Earth pursuing Shockwave. Ultimately I don't mind, I really loved WFC . The only flaws I saw in the game was the limited cast of playable characters and...may sound odd but Prime's rifle in that game really bugged me. Prime used a heavy rifle that fired somewhat slowly but packed a big punch in the old cartoons and comics. The game had that.....ultra high fire rate weapon. Just didn't feel right. I've no faith that they'll change the rifle, but surely we'll get a bigger cast of playable robots.awsome117 said:From the one I remember, they chased Shockwave to Earth, and the only way for them to survive on the surface was to take the forms of the creatures living on the planet (which happened to be dinosaurs).Strife2k7 said:As far as the original cartoon goes, they were built as Dinosaurs because Dinosaurs were incredibly powerful creatures in their time. But, they were "frozen" there (I forgot how) and basically buried with the rest of the dinosaurs until uncovered millions of years later.
However, at this point I think the game(s) are just writing their own canon, and I don't mind that.
It's transformers, you get used to it.
It's a cartoon about robots turning into vehicles. Canon should not factor into something like that, and the addition of dinosaurs can only make it more awesome.Palademon said:That'll be awesome, although the appearance of Dinobots (and the few Aerial bots in WFC) does cause some canon issues.
Ah ok. I don't mind either, as a lot of the different story lines are still awesome, and I enjoyed WfC. A lot of the story was just weird, even for a transformers story, and some of the gameplay was off for me (Like how jets almost had to where to fly to).Strife2k7 said:I was skipping over details just for the sake of brevity, but yeah they were on Earth pursuing Shockwave. Already posted this but why not...enjoy!Scarim Coral said:This news pleased me greatly (Grimlock is my favourite character other than Optimus). If this will be in the War or Cybertron universe or art style than I will eagerly await to see a cybertronian T-rex!!!
I will pay Hasbro good money for them to make that into a deluxe toyform like they did with the War for Cybertron version of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megtron and Soundwave. However I would think a Voyager (larger) size would do Grimlock justice.arc1991 said:Already posted this but why not...enjoy!Scarim Coral said:This news pleased me greatly (Grimlock is my favourite character other than Optimus).
