Well seeing as were on a sphere, it's kind of the same thing. Unless your implying he's going to get a Job somewhere in the pacific ocean.
I see it as him being "smart." Further east would would technically be "west" if you think about it.

I think the term he was looking for was "Corporate Socialism". The title made me wonder if he was going to compare game coding to chopping lumber in a Soviet-era gulag. Fortunately not.

He makes good points. I wonder if he'll join another company, start his own, or is done with the business altogether.

It is the same with all of these big corporations. His only chance is to work with a smaller company, otherwise he will end up in the same situation again.

Japan is pretty brutal place to be an artist. A starting salary for an animator is $8,000/year compared to the US which is $30,000/year.

"In short, it's like a communist state. Working as hard as you can is your own loss. Not working hard becomes more advantageous. But doesn't that get in the way of making games? You can't make good games by just taking it easy."
Wow... I instantly thought of Super/Street Fighter 4 when I read this.

Is that bad?

Yeah, I hope he comes west, where every game designer gives it their all, 100% and only originality is rewarded! We sure don't put out derivative rubbish over here, right, EA? Right, Activision?

Methinks his grass is a little greener on the other side.

Golly, he sounds angry. Almost like he didn't want to resign. Almost like he was politely fired. Of course since games journalist take everything at face value that can't be true.

That isn't communism, that's ossification of your business model due to scale. It's happening in film and music also. It's based on the certainty that your intellectual property is a license to print money regardless of quality control. There's no incentive to innovate or experiment because it could risk profitability.

Here's what I've noticed, past a certain size, a corporation is indistinguishable from a government in how it operates.

I have to agree with some of his points. Gamers are getting used to games and want "experiences" and sequels instead of fresh ideas and good old hump the mattress fun.

At least nintendo still has that fun charm.
