I gave my guy friend flowers once, because my mum's a florist and had some that she was going to chuck out because they wouldn't last the night. He ate a gerbera daisy and seemed to appreciate the gesture. Don't think he knew what to do with them, though. Maybe it's because my mum does this for a living, but I always thought that flowers were a bloody stupid gift anyway. And I'm not even a man.
I would not want to receive flowers as a gift. I mean as a gesture it would be nice to receive a gift sure, but flowers? What the hell would I do with? put them in a jar or something? Sounds like an inconvenience to me.

girls dont like recieving flowers just because they are flowers... yes they are pretty but the gesgure of giving flowers is probably more substantial than the flowers themselves...
giving and receiving flowers is a good way to show someone you really care.. its the socially expected way anyway and thats what makes them so popular

I like to think of myself as a romantic, open-minded fellow, but if my gf bought me flowers, I would find myself wondering what could possibly make her think I want flowers.

I'd feel pretty awkward to be honest, wouldn't really want them but wouldn't want to offend the girl either :/
I wouldn't instinctively think to give my bf flowers - I expect he'd be politely appreciative, but somewhat confused. =)
What's wrong with flowers? Do they simply stop being symbolic of love if the recipient has a Y chromosome?

Depends if they were pretty flowers. But I wouldn't like to recieve them in public for obvious reasons...
uhm... noooo... i mean: what in the blue hell would i want with them? they're dead plants, slowly withering and rotting, not serving any purpose anymore; why would i want something like this?

They smell pretty and look nice.... so they wouldn't bother me, but I'd prefer something else I guess. Wouldn't complain though.
