Aint seen a thread yet, so..

So unfortunately I still haven't finished Peace Walker, all the bonus stuff required to actually unlock the final missions confused me, and I need to replay it, I didn't really get the jist of it.

ANYWAY, What do you think of Ground Zeroes? I think it looks cool. The FOX engine looks mighty fine, and glad to see Big Boss back. I didn't see and HUD though, so I don't know if that was for demo purposes, or that's actually going to be in the final game. The rain looked realistic.

Another thing, what do you think the story is going to be like this time round? I don't want the RPG elements Peace Walker had, the base building stuff I found quite tedious. I think the game may feature the Les Enfants Terribles Project, and we may even see a young David (Solid Snake, for you unknowledgeable pheasants)

They didn't show the HUD in the MGS4 previews and the final game turned out to be very different due to the ease of setting off alerts.

I will say this to all of you. Read the previews of MGS4, Kojima promised far too much and couldn't deliver on 1/3 of it, the same thing is happening all over again. Temper your expectations.
And what sort of things did he promise that weren't delivered?

Honestly I'm psyched for it. I'm hoping we'll see Portable Ops more simple management system return, but from the looks of it Big Boss is infiltrating a very rainy Mother Base. I really hope MSF has been compromised, because Big Boss has to go public sometime and announce FOXHOUND to the world. Hopefully this means recruiting Null, Zero kidnapping Big Boss and the build up to Metal Gear! It would be awesome if there was an epilogue which featured Big Boss workings from behind the scenes of Metal Gear. culminating in a losing fight against Solid Snake.

It sure is a MGS Kojima game and that means i`ll stay the hell away from it.
The graphics are really good looking and it`s a long inro. That`s all i can say at this time.
The MGS spin off with Raiden is the more interesting game to me.

Something about this trailer really rekindled my interest in this series again, which was all but gone after MGS4 sucking the way it did. There might be only a small amount of actual gameplay, but what it shows feels very different from the usual wooden animations.

And if the cutscenes end up looking like this, then bring 'm on.

I'm still wondering how he'll earn Zero's trust because FOXHOUND is a US government agency and Big Boss led it but in this game, it's quite apparent Zero is going after him.

I am very interested as to how they mixed up the gameplay. Because as of now, it doesn't show much of the gameplay.

That's not much of a problem because...

Big Boss forms FOXHOUND with Campbell during the San Hieronymo Takeover. When it's over Zero and Big Boss have their little tiff after Les Enfants Terribles is started and they part ways. As far as we know The Patriots didn't have total influence over the US until the 90's, with almost total control by the time Solidus was president, which was in the early 2000's. It looks like Big Boss was still admired by the US and led FOXHOUND. until Operation Intrude N313.

What I'm definitely wondering is if this game will explain exactly why Big Boss was doubling as both the commander of FOXHOUND and the leader of Outer Heaven. In Metal Gear he was just a big bad, but with his tragic new backstory I have a feeling that they might spin it in his favour.

Ah but did it matter? That game was incredible anyway!

Looks neat, I didn't play MGS4 because I don't own a PS3, but this looks really good.

MGS3 was my favorite of the franchise, so taking that character (Big Boss) and doing what looks to be the prequel to the very first Metal Gear should be a lot of fun.

Now if the PS3 would just drop in price...

Well, he was guessing the power of the PS3 at the time, and his original plans was things like destructible environments as well as the other stuff you mentioned UNTIL he actually got his hands on the PS3 dev kit where he then pretty much overhauled the game. 1 area? Now it's 5 areas. Destructo physics? One boss fight, and only the boss can do it. Factions, not that deep and only for two stages really. Kojima did deliver a lot with MGS4, not as much as we thought he would, but still a lot. The areas had many different ways to go about them, reflecting the game's original desire to be more open and we were given the Octocamo which did exactly what it said on the tin. Octopus camoflauge. Beautiful.

Of course, we take all this new info with a pinch of salt, because there is no way in hell that the PS3 can run all of that. There are great looking games, but then there's Ground Zeroes, which looks like a rainy ice cream in my eyes. But I don't think he'll get rid of the Open World aspect of the game. That seems like the main selling point from a gameplay standpoint.

Story wise, it looks cool. I loved Peace Walker, and seeing darling little Chico again was fun, until I see that he's a traitor (Wasn't he like this the last time he was captured? When you first met him?) and that someone shoved a headphone jack in his chest so he can hear his own heartbeat or something like that? I don't know, but it seems Kojima is really going to looking at the idea of child soldiers now, and the recent arab spring may have been a cause for inspiration for that. I mean, I saw a news report of a 6 year old kid who was like "I shot some guys I shot some guys!" and was really thrilled about it. If that didn't make him want to touch the issue of child soldiers again, I don't know what will.

So, me? Stoked. Awaiting this like I'd await my favourite meal at a restaurant where every waiter is my dream girl.

I see where you are coming from but as you said, this is being made for the PS3 so I'm just going to be really cynical about this.

If it comes out for PC (like the rumours say) then I'll get it for that.

I'm a pretty huge MGS fan but I never got PW though I may pick up the collection on PS3 just to play PW. I hear that other than the boss fights the game is very good, the demo sure was fun at any rate.
The game is good. And while the boss fights are a little disappointing, they're still kinda fun. It's like a bite size Metal Gear game that happens to be 40 hours long. Be careful though, there are now QTEs. Plus it'll make the Ground Zeroes trailer more shocking for you.

Also, I'm only cynical really about the graphics. Kojima says it'll look this good on PS3. Open world? That'll stay. Too much hype about it for them to cut it.

Calumon: Wasn't there a lot of hype for Snake in the second one too? :S

Speaking of QTEs, the torture scene QTE in Peace Walker pretty much killed my finger, took so many attempts.

All right, it is more than graphics he has promised in the past, but this time he's promised Open World, VEhicles Helicopters that play "Flight of the Valkyries." These, in my eyes, don't seem like big things that need cutting on the scale of Destructo physics (Which have not been said to exist in this game) or all taking place in one Middle Eastern town. No, he's laid out his plans and they seem reasonable, in my eyes.

Calumon: He also has music from really old movies. :S

A gameplay trailer with 9 minutes of cutscene and less than 2 minutes of gameplay consisting entirely of standing behind a rock and then getting spotted by a, well, spotlight.
Yeah. Just about what I was expecting.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll walk away, hands in pockets, whistling nothing in particular.
That's a shortened trailer. IGN bought the rights to a longer trailer that shows off more stealth, animations, gunplay, a little bit about the cars and a big musical stealthy helicopter. It's pretty good and that's the reason I, among others, are excited.

Yeah, we haven't heard much right now.

Just saying, I felt that overall, MGS4 was a major regression from 3. It was still a good game overall but it's undoubtedly the worst of the series. Like, I had way more fun with portable ops.
Really? Worse than Snake's Revenge?

OH HO HO HO HO HO It was awful.

I actually think Portable Ops was the worst out of the Metal Gear Solid games. I mean, the god damn plot twist relating to who "Ghost" is is not only stupid in my eyes but is inconsequential considering how it is never ever brought up again.

Python was cool though. I would call MGS4 perhaps the weaker of all the console ones, but no means would I call it a bad game. I mean, the entire last Act (Not the epilogue, Act 5) was just flat out brilliant, in my eyes.

"LET ME HEAR YOU SCREAM! HOWL! ROAR! FROM THE VERY DEPTHS OF YOUR SOUL!"

As an MGS fan, I wasn't impressed.

The video had no context (although I have missed a few games, the games that aren't on console ... ac!d and peace walker) to me and then a 30 second (if that) bit of game play.

Also why does big boss look like Ron Pearlman?

I will have to see ... something to be more excited by this game, at the moment all it tells me is "new MGS coming".

A hacked-together respin of a game whose first version seemed far better, is better than an actual plot gap being filled? Wow.

I am disappointed as hell in Rising.

I honestly can't imagine anything more boring than the original showing of Rising. It was basically the gameplay from the last hour of MGS2 or so except with a slow and cumbersome "cut anything" mechanic slapped on top. There was nothing of any real substance there, and for an action game, what they had running seemed to just plod along a an abysmal pace.

I'll take a Platinum Games action title of any variety over that thanks.
