Totally worth it then. More money to Neige for more amazing music!Gildan Bladeborn said:Coincidentally enough I've had that Alcest album on my "Big list o' things to buy" for a while now, so it's great that you quoted me, because I'd almost forgotten I was supposed to go acquire it. Thanks for the unintentional reminder!
I'm not sure if you mean albums or bandsBlindswordmaster said:Well Ace of Spades was a fucking awesome album, can you recommend others?k3v1n said:stop listening to Disturbed and start listening to Motörhead if you really like good music
Third wave ska fans completely deserve it, third wave ska itself being an utter bastardization of ska made by white kids in the american suburbs.TheRightToArmBears said:Besides, if you think metal bands have a problem with this kinda thing, pity third wave sak fans; countless bands have turned into generic pop-punk acts and lost the horn sections.
Pretty much sums it up.AccursedTheory said:You can't scream into a mike for decades at a time. Metal bands are going soft because their throats are wrecked and their all half deaf.Blindswordmaster said:Got the new Disturbed album last week and I was disappointed with it. It wasn't heavy at all and I really expected it to be more like Indestructible. This seems to be happening more and more today; metal bands are going softer. And I find that extremely disappointing because I love thrash metal. Is it too much to ask that my Metal is fucking metal? Discuss, disagree, recommend some heavy metal, call me a fucktard, whatever.
That, and the whole 'I'm getting older, I probably should prove to these fools that I actually know how to sing' thing.
Just like 2nd wave ska is a bastardization? Or british rock music from the late 60's/early seventies is a bastardization of American blues?AgentNein said:Third wave ska fans completely deserve it, third wave ska itself being an utter bastardization of ska made by white kids in the american suburbs.TheRightToArmBears said:Besides, if you think metal bands have a problem with this kinda thing, pity third wave ska fans; countless bands have turned into generic pop-punk acts and lost the horn sections.
Again you and I agree, when I talk about Heavy metal I'm talking about instruments, not vocals. Though I occasionally enjoy Cannibal Corpse, I prefer understandable lyrics that follow an actual melody. I'm afraid that I still can't see where we differ.Maraveno said:There's a difference between high pitched yells yelling and clean singing and Puking out words as if Someone has just ripped out your vocal chordsBlindswordmaster said:And I agree. Like I said earlier, I really don't like Slipknot or Korn. I actually like HEAVY metal. I'm just saying that I'm tired of bands going softer. Though I know Disturbed were never especially heavy, it's still disappointing to have then lose what heaviness they did have. But metal is like a drug to me, I constantly need heavier stuff. Now that you know my position, please tell me exactly why I piss you off.Maraveno said:Can I just say that METAL as being METAL originally was what we call Hard rock In modern daysBlindswordmaster said:Got the new Disturbed album last week and I was disappointed with it. People like you piss me off
Metal is something totally different from the screamy gorey belching we see nowadays
Anyway I thought and still kinda do think that's the way you're edging metal/heavy metal
or maybe you agree I'm not sure
I'd argue that 2nd wave two tone was a perfectly reasonable evolution of the 1st wave of ska, and that 3rd wave was the white-America-co-opt version. Removing any scary 'blackness' or actual politics and replacing them with high school antics to make it as safe as possible in a failed attempt to hit the mainstream airwaves.TheRightToArmBears said:Just like 2nd wave ska is a bastardization? By it's own merits 3rd wave/ska punk is a fun and suprisingly complex (try learning some of the basslines!) genre of music, but loads of bands like Goldfinger went for a mainstream Blink 182-esque sound.
Truth be told, I only like the Beast and the Harlot, you can thank Guitar Hero for that one. For my quasi-metal, I listen to Dragonforce, Black Sabbath, Avenged Sevenfold, and Diablo Swing Orchestra. No, I'm not kidding about that last one.
I'd rather you be kidding about A7X...
Hey, I like my white-America-co-opt version just fine, being a white american kid from the suburbs myself. Good point, very good point and true even. But does that make it irrelevant as music? I mean, just because the lyrics are not as meaningful, does that make the whole genre irrelevant as art or music? And besides, are we white, soft, suburbanites not allowed to take a cool genre that sounds awesome and put our own pathetic angst into it? Are we not worthy?AgentNein said:I'd argue that 2nd wave two tone was a perfectly reasonable evolution of the 1st wave of ska, and that 3rd wave was the white-America-co-opt version. No, you're right. I'm not saying it's not a relevant form of music, really. Because it is. And white suburbanite kids in the US have every right to make whatever music they want to. I mean, any genre can give us some cool shit. I'm just saying that I personally feel that 3rd wave ska fans being upset that their genre has gone to crap can be filed in the "what comes around goes around" category! Live by the genre shift, die by the genre shift and all that jazz.darth gditch said:Hey, I like my white-America-co-opt version just fine, being a white american kid from the suburbs myself. Heeheehee, probably not, but I still rate Reel Big Fish as my 3rd favorite band, the angsty white boy I am. XD
