I shall buy it and a stopwatch.
What's the stopwatch for?
Well, I hear that when you go outside in the game, you only have enough oxygen for a specific amount of time, and the game doesn't have a timer for it.
So, you need to set a stopwatch. I don't know if this is true though.
It's not true... Your character actually has a wrist-watch with 3 sections (red, yellow, green) that record how long your gas masks filter has remaining. From what I've seen you can find new filters and masks laying around (your mask also takes damage) and change them, but it'll cause a small amount of damage to do so in a hazardous area.
I swear that watch is magic. It doubles not only as an oxygen meter, but a stealth detector. It has 3 LEDs; green for hidden, yellow for enemies aware of your presence, and red for spotted. How the hell does it know that?!
Clearly it's a Relic from Chernobyl.

I just watched this video of it.

...Awesomegasm.

Seriously, this looks like it could be my favourite game for years. Too bad it isn't actually out here until the 20th.
Dammit! Now I have yet another reason why it sucks not to have any source of cashflow...

My copy has just arrived on my desk and I'm stuck at work for another 6 and half hours :-(

Update: Just got home and tried to install and discovered the glory of Steamworks based games. This wonderful piece of technology means that the game I'm looking at right sitting on my desk in wonderful DVD form, can't actually be played until it's "unlocked". Goddamn internet activation BS! Luckily I can enter my serial number and at least pre-load it ready for tomorrow...

Well having just beat it, I will confirm that it is just as long as your standard FPS's are these days.

And it's a god damn fantastic 8 hours. I'm just as happy paying $49.99 for the experience that Metro 2033 gave me as I was for the experience Dragon Age, Fallout 3, and the Mass Effects gave me for longer times.

what's the song thats playing throughout that video? is it from a movie? i recognize it and like it but cant put a finger on it...

Audemas - Keep playing FFXIII is good.
The song is from the film 28 Days Later. An English death metal band called The Rotted did a rather good cover of it too.

yes yes yes, 28 days later, such a great film.
Guys I am pretty sure this song was in the sequel actually, during the opening scene as the zombies chase Robert Carlisle through the countryside.

And I think it is by Godspeed You Black Emperor, who also did have a song in the first film as Cilian Murphy wandered around the city.

This game is really, really fun. To be honest, it's the most fun I've had in a FPS in quite a while. Great gameplay, fantastic atmosphere, sweet graphics, interesting story...what more could you possibly want?

Just keep in mind that Metro 2033 is an almost completely linear game. Go in expecting a STALKER or a Fallout 3 and you'll be dissapointed.

That is, you'll be dissapointed until you realise that you're playing a game as good as any of the Half Life series.
Yeah, but the problem is, early reports say it only has a fraction of HL2's length - supposedly about 10-14 hours, tops. It's a short game.

Torn over getting it. It looks awesome, but not the best value for my gaming dollar . . .

I don't know what Half Life 2 you were playing, but that's about as long as it took me.

I have a question about this game-how do the 360 and PC versions compare? Normally I would go for PC since I'm sure the graphics are at least a bit better, but for reasons of convenience (my going away on vacation for a week and only having access to my 360), I'm thinking of getting it for the 360 so I don't have to wait two weeks to play it. However if it's much better for the PC (as some games are) I'd rather wait than play an inferior version. So how do they stack up?

I to was rather Impressed with metro as well, its combination of horror survival and fps gameplay made it fun and unique, although aspect of the game such as game graphics and npc models were a little uninspiring and reflects half life 2 too much.
level design was pretty cool its amazing how they were able to keep miles and miles of tunnels fresh, and going up to the surface and having to face the demons (there not actually demons they just call them that in the game i actually called them Wraiths)was pretty sweet and then the Howlers.
Mind u the aim cud use a tweak or two, long rang combat was ideal if anything got to close it was impossible hit the friggin things and the lacking of a melee button for all weapons made it rather difficult.
The chopping and changing between human enemies to mutant enemies keeps the gameplay fresh and fun, voice acting was all in a rusky accent which either made it funny or really cool and a brilliant fear and mystery element to the game make metro 2033 a diamond in the rough.

I think they should have put the watch in the special edtion along with that shotgun thing, would have come in handy while crossing areas with hazardous air/ evading neo nazis, mutants and commies.

EDIT: Did anyone pay the prostitute in Riga. I laughed
