I'm glad that they aren't bothering with multiplayer, it's more trouble than its worth for most games and I can't imagine it being a big draw.

I have Metro 2033 for the PC. Is it better than the Xbox Version? It looks fun, but the Xbox and its crappy graphics/controls pushed me away from it when I rented it. Bought it during the past Summer Sale for 6 bucks.
One thing I'll say for the PC version: it let me modify the Field of View. Which was a life saver because Metro 2033 originally has the most claustrophobically small view field and I couldn't stand it.

What makes you say so? The only times I remember being alone in the original Metro 2033 was part of the Library and the last 10 minutes of the game. You usually had at least one other person with you, occasionally a whole squad.
From memory:
You are alone when you get cut off from Bourbon, you have to go around the long way to meet back up with him.
Later on after
you have to fight your way through a ton of bandits alone. Though Khan does kill one of them for you, if you're sneaking at least.
You then meet Khan who after a short walk with takes up a position and tells you to go blow up tunnels. Khan does not come with you, though I suppose he is close by. He then shows you the way out.
You're hugely alone(meaning no one is with you) when you go to the Russian/Fascist front where you either have to sneak through or fight everyone.
After the ranger dies you find some soldiers in a town being wiped out, they soon die and you proceed into the town.
Where you are again alone for the bulk of it until you meet that kid, who is less of a person you see and more of a giant bulky weight that makes it feel like I'm playing with a floaty console controller.
Then you get to the surface and are alone again as you fight your way through more Nazi's and a few of those flying demons.
You meet up with that Ranger in Black Station who tells you to fight your way alone through the Nazi's while he goes around.
He takes you to the other rangers and then as you noted the only other times you are alone is in the Library, and the end of the game.
So it's pretty safe to say there is pretty much an even mix of being completely alone and being with other people.
