Is it me or is Michael Jackson's death getting old.
I have to say I like his music, from the 80's!
He hasn't made any good music in over ten years and "other" happenings a few years ago didn't help his career. He's being buried today so its why I made this thread. I just think it's all hyped up.
I just want your opinion.

I don't care. Another celebrity is in the ground, and everyone talks about how great and amazing he was, when five months ago people were still making fun of him. Oh well.

Apparently they're recycling Michael's body into plastic bags so that he can still be harmful to children.
In short, I don't really care because I never knew him although he did have some decent music.

So is Elvis' death, but people still seem to rant and rave about it. Maybe not so much the media, but people still go on about how great and amazing Elvis was. Still have tributes and memorials to him, etc etc. As long as there's fans, he'll continue to be on people's minds. If you're tired of it, turn off the TV or just ignore it. Plain and simple.

I never really cared, they put WAY to much hype into it. There was even a patition to make his birthday, or his death day a holiday. BULL FUCKING SHIT, thats not happening for one single guy. We have one holiday for all of aour presadents, not hundreds. The only one person that got there own holiday was Martin Luther King Jr. and thats because he pretty much ended discrimination in the US, mostly.

Sorry about the rant, thats just what I think.

He was an important figure in American culture whose music and personal story touched millions of people. Why would people stop talking about him just because he is dead? Looks like somebody needs to stop watching TMZ and Entertainment Tonight, because I watch the news a lot, read the paper, and I don't see it plastered everywhere. It's obviously very avoidable with little to no effort.

On the one hand, better people die every day without any fanfare. I'm not blind to this. I'll also be the first to admit that I've been laughing at MJ since I was a kid and he was cool, and that my first post-mortem MJ joke was told shortly after I found out...

On the other hand, for years of my childhood, MJ was the coolest musician/celeb in, like, the universe. In elementary school, we were all MJ kids (joke material right there.) We ate up his music and dance, and I've watched the Thriller video (as well as the making of) more times than I can count. I've still got my VHS tape of The Making of Thriller, recorded on the night it aired on MTV. I guess what I'm saying is that aside from the jokes and the fact that he was just another celeb...I'm still kind of sad.

MLK didn't end slavery. He helped with the Civil Rights movement to end discrimination. Lincoln ended slavery with the Emancipation Proclaimation. Didn't you pay attention in History class? If they wanted to petition to make MJ's birthday a holiday, due to him being an iconic figure in American history, whether you like it or not, he can have a chance. Elvis has a TOUR of where he lived in Graceland, etc. But that doesn't make you rant, right? Anyone that's important enough to have supporters on such a grand scale can get that done. Just because it was a thought of putting a day aside to honor him, doesn't mean YOU have to observe it. Do you observe every single holiday on the calendar? 95% of the time, no one does. So you shouldn't let something like that make you "rant". If the government wants to make it a holiday, they will. If they don't, oh well.

Even if he didn't do anything directly in your life, he was known worldwide. For his music, his fashion, his message to help the world. Sadly, for the scandals that the media put him to and slander his name. Regardless of all that, he's still an important figure in history. Start giving respect to the dead.

He was a brilliant singer and I liked his stuff, but I'm getting sick of the way the news is repeating the same story again and again.

Yeah sorry about the slavery thing, i meant civil right, i had another conversation going with a friend about slavery, looks like the two got mixed up. Yeah MLKJ helped with the Civil rights and discrimination, my bad.

But I respect the guy, its just I dont beleive a pop star deserves to get a holiday just because everyboddy knew him. Many say that there should be a holiday for him because he was famouse and gave alot of money to charity.

Well you could say the Same thing about Bill Gates, everybody knows him, he's famous, and he has given millions to charity, and when he dies almost all of it goes to charity. Buy he's not getting a holiday. You see my point, just because you give money to charity and are well known does not mean you get a holiday, unless you prevent a war and save all of humanity then I dont think you should be given a holiday.

Ahaha. S'okay. It happens. I'd support a holiday for Bill Gates if they made one. Of course, it'd be free Microsoft Day which requires to give everyone either a piece of software or PCs for free (depending on the area). That would rock.

So, if I prevent a war, I can get a holiday? Awesome.

I never really cared about him. At least now there's a bit more oxygen for us, what else matters?

Too true, I'm just hoping that with his burial, they'll stop playing his music on every damn channel. It's starting to get old. It's brainwashed my brother, who happens to be 5 years old, a tender age where everything happens to suck into his brain like water to a sponge. He thinks he likes Michael Jackson, when really, the media has just told him that he does.
