It's amazing that they don't know their own policies.

Wait, no, not "amazing." What's the word I'm looking for?

"Expected."

Remember that Richard Gaywood guy or whatever his name was?

I'd have believed 'im o_O 'Always hated the way 'gay' has evolved as a word. I mean, what the hell?

Heck, sometimes I still use the word gay myself, though normally only in descriptive writing. In conversation, unfortunately, it's gotten to a point where using gay as happy, glad, colourful and/or bright just comes off as pretentious.

There's a town called Fort Gay? That's awesome! I love unusual names for towns and cities!

In Pennsylvania, there's a town called Intercourse (I shit you not).

According to Google it only has a population of 819, so it might be kind of easy to overlook, not that I'm defending Microsoft...

Remember kiddies: Naming things while drunk is a generally bad idea, especially if you plan on living there...

While the employee should have taken the time to check his story (Google would have taken all of 5 seconds), I don't blame them too much. It does sound like a fake name, and given the attitude of many gamers when online, I would probably jump to the same conclusion that it was a joke made to disparage gays.

And props to MS for taking the time to issue a direct apology to the gamer. That's awesome.
Yeah, I mean what's next, someone trying to search iTunes for a name as fake as "Marvin Gay"?
Oh, wait, maybe Gay is a real name...

Actually, it's Marvin Gaye (note the 'e'). Given that the real names/cities with inappropriate names is far smaller than the amount of inappropriate screennames, fake names, and other such gags, I don't think it was that much of a stretch.

Alright, how about "The Gay Byrne Show" staring Gabriel Byrne or the Gaylotd Brothers Library supplies? Real names someone would find if they looked them up.

Gay Byrne was great, especially at christmas when he did the late late toy show. When any kids that demo'd toys got to take one of everything that was there home, gender appropriate.

Yuh huh. This is what happens when you try to police "naughty" words and hire idiot support staff. People don't need to be protected from hurt feelings on the Internet, least of all from MS.

and yet they still haven't apologised for when they did actually ban people for saying they were gay.
