To all who believe that Microsoft's avatars are rip offs of Miis:

Actually, if there is anyone guilty of ripping anyone off here it is Nintendo. Anyone who has ever used MSN messenger (back when it was actually called that rather than Windows Live Messenger) should be familiar with the several types of customisable avatars available for that. Pretty much all of these were roughly as sophisticated as Miis, just without the 3D graphics and integration into games.
ummm so a picture that you may or may not display, which didn't come into msn after the gamecube, i've been using msn since it began in 99, they didn't have display pictures or avatars like you're trying to say they are until the .net version came out which was after the gamecube one came out

and avatars are WAY older than msn and been around since before then

You're right, but you seem to think I'm saying that Microsoft created avatars. I'm obviously not. Yeah, my chronology was off, but the point is that 'Wee Mees' were around long before 'Wii Miis' and due to the connection to MSN messenger it is a moot point for Nintendo fanboys to argue that MS ripped off the Miis. Sure I could go back further in the history of avatars than Wee Mees, but considering the point I'm making about the names coinciding it would make no sense to do so. I too have been using MSN messenger since day one, and regardless of timing, I can categorically state that Wee Mees were nearly as sophisticated as Miis (in fact more so in every area but the face).

You seem to contradict me while at the same time backing up my point with your assertion as to how old avatars are. So were you trying to actually make a point or did you just feel some insatiable need to contradict someone and try to make yourself look superior?

Answers on a postcard...

He clearly hates you, personally.

lol sony brings out something that isnt up to scratch and the 360 fanboys come out of the wood works.

yes home is quite slow paced but it's meant to be, its a break, chat to people while playing them at chess, just because your not racing, shooting, or killing doesn't mean it's bad it's just different.

The obvious copy that Microsoft did on the Mii's was worse. Not many people like them and some people just want the old pictures back. At least Sony is being a bit more original.
I really have no opinion on Home, since I do not own a PS3, but I felt the need to point out that Gamer Pictures do not have to be unilaterally supplanted by your avatar. Vork from "The Guild" still represents me, along with that less-than accurate representation of myself I had to create.

whatever, you get what you pay for, for live a robust experience second only to Steam.

with PSN, you don't get a good experience, but hell, its free, what do you expect?

It does sound like a neat idea, and I have heard from people it doesn't really clutter up the thing. However, the only real losers in this are Sony, as it appears it hasn't quite had the pull it expected, with people still willing to pay for a service on another console which lacks a feature of this kind. perhaps if it had been a launch feature, people would have felt more encouraged by where the PS3 could end up.

I don't really think anyone cares about home. I'm a PS3 owner, and I've always felt the playstation network is plenty strong without home. I don't think I ever found myself wanting a virtual "second life" representation of my playstation.

PSN works fine without home, in fact i find home to be more cumbersome than it is convenient. There's already a built in friends list/chatroom/game hosting system in play within the regular playstation gui. And most games have their own game browsers on top of that.

Home just seems like an unneccessary step.

I don't get why anyone would complain if it's free. You don't have to use, and I guess most people won't use it all the time; it's free so who cares?

You can't compare home to xbox live because it's completely different. Xbox live is like the PSN and home is only an extra. I can't see this or a similar program on Microsoft's network so there isn't anything to compare it to. And does anyone care about the avatars? I always thought they were outdated..okay if you're a kid and play Wii it's maybe a little fun to make one, but for a console that thrives on M-rated FPSs the kiddy look is just out of place.

I probably won't use Home a lot but it seems like a nice addition to an already great and free service. People that keep comparing it to Second life: Wasn't Second Life really popular?
What's with all the negative press and MS recently... I wish gaming media would just STFU.
Playstation disease... jesus christ

Has it really come to this?
Name calling between the companies...

Next Sony will be prank calling Nintendo and insulting the Wii hardware, Nintendo will be forwarding their sales reports to everyone to show how well their doing.

By the time the next generation is released, there will be drive-bys and assassins within the holy 3.
