Cincinnati Bell basically has a monopoly in the tristate here (Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio). They're shitty company. I live in suburbs/city so I have options but people living east Bumblefuck aren't so lucky. I don't know why my speeds are complete ass, but there's nothing I can do about it
Monopoly for 3 states?
we have at least 3 competing ISP in every city. you seem to be in a really awful position. there is soemthing you can do about it, but not alone. if your whole community woudl decide to force your ISP to provide decent service they would have no option but to do that. Not providing at all would be worse for them and uless the company is run by monkeys they would comply.

Its a little different. The Hollywood companies will basically be tracking the IP addresses that connect to torrents.
How?
As far as im aware there is no technology invented to track P2P connections except going though whole ISP traffic. even if such technology is invented first it must be proven that it is accurate before any actions can be decided upon it.
They made a deal with the ISPs in which they then report the IP addresses they found and the ISP does the punishing.
so basically they can punish anyone they dont like without question? awsome system, and you dont need to run facism either, yay.

that is not a majority. There's a reason elections are done with a 2/3 majority and not a 51% majority
50%+1 is majority. 2/3 is what laws consider "vast majority" and has nothing to do with statistics.

45% of the United States does not have access to broadband internet. Most of that is the northern border, the central plains, and the Appalachian regions. And while it is nice to talk about what SHOULD happen, we are talking about the current world infrastructure, WHICH DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS CLOUD IDEA AT ALL.

granted not the best source but thats more like 35%. most of which by choice. not making to most top10s in the owrod meaning US internet being very far behind times. we are talkign about the WOrld, therefore you sohuld not compare your outdated US infrastructure to the rest of the world. and lets not ignore the speed internet is spreading, considering surveys are done in 2011 nad Xbox is to come out in 2014. Xbox is a future console and uses technolgoy that will get more videly usable as time goes by. as opposed to getting outdated in 3 years like previuos console cycle did.

Even if this outrageous claim was true that the Xbone will have 3 times the computing power added from the cloud, this is not really any better news then the console still being behind PCs. They are in fact admiting that to get the full experience from their machine you will need to always be online. A feature that alienates a chunck of their market whom do not have reliable broadband connection. This is immediately baffling considering that the TV, Movie, and football related features that the Xbone will have would be most appealing to the average citizen. The type of person less likely to have a reliable broadband connection. Those lost customers most likely have a good smart phone that can do all of the Fantasy football tracking already.

This is functionally always online. You won't be able to play some games without that additional processing. Haha. It's a great idea to expand the console lifespan but it spits in the face of the consumer. Who knows though, cloud processing may become the way of the future. I'm just not going to support it.
As you said it spits in the face of the consumer, and as a result developers and publishers will be the ones to be affected the most.

If publishers think that this is the way to go and force the developer make it so but the customers doesn't support such a game, I can only see it going downhill.
It depends. If consumers switch their attention to other gaming platforms then publishers/developers may just see their source of income shifting places. An Xbone exclusive developer/publisher would have a rude awakening though.

In the end, no matter how much crap Microsoft throws our way I don't know that they'll sell too poorly. I'm a multi-console owner and preferred my ps3 over my 360 so I'm quite comfortable passing on the Xbone until a time it can prove itself worthy of my money. But a 360-only owner who had a positive experience with them and/or perhaps made an ass of themselves online by bashing competitors for legitimate or illegitimate reasons may have a hard time switching teams. We humans have a history of being tribalistic by nature. It got us through some dark times as a species.

We see games now sell 3.7mil copies and still counts as loss, what will happen if they sell even half that amount? I'm scared of what will happen to this industry.
This is a forecasting/budgeting issue. Forecasters say, "If you through hundreds of millions of dollars at the game, it'll sell as good as COD. The CEO's then decide to base real budgets on those numbers ( all the while entirely unaware that their forecasting department is basically their nepotism dumping grounds and thus full of moronic invalids who just want to be loved by their parents for writing reports in something other than crayons).

If they can't figure out how to forecast and budget more conservatively then they deserve to die as a business, regardless of what one platform does to assist them on their way.

I am not saying cloud it will not work as a service to expand the lifespan of a console, many thing we thought that will fail became part of our everyday lifestyle, but to see good developers have their studios closed cause the didn't met the "expectations", or even publishers having bigger problems that already have, it will be sad to watch it happen.
Cloud computing should be an optional service that allows us to play console-like games abroad, not when we're at home on a system we paid for.

...unless The Cloud is Microsoft's codename for its team of wizards...
I laughed when I read this. Something I could see Yahtzee using.

Anyway, like others have mentioned, remaining connected seems like an issue. The cloud may allow your console to play games four times as well, but what if you suddenly disconnect? Does the game slow down or just simply disconnect? Also, would all games utilize the Cloud in this way? Or, would just certain titles take advantage?

I think I'll go with a PlayStation 4--if I even get any of the new consoles; I'm quite content with my P.C.
