OT: Cool. I wonder if that will entice the disillusioned already-been-there indie developers. (Probably not.)

Welcome to Humanity. Terribly sorry, but rational thinking isn't really our strong suit...Leviano said:I have come to the conclusion that people aren't very objective any more.
All snark aside, I agree. This is a major policy reversal for the better, and it's even a reversal from the 360 where the "Publishers Only" policy was originally implemented. But I agree with in that they need to cut this nonsense with the "Xbox First" deals.Leviano said:OT: This is fantastic news for Indy devs, even Kotaku's comments section is full of XB haters praising MS for this.
It's just bad business sense. The devs lose money from having to port post-public attention and MS loses money because there's no cross-platform interest.Dr.Awkward said:Almost there. Take it one further step - Ban the use of "Xbox first" contracts. You know what I'm talking about - Those agreements where indies or even big-time publishers have to wait a month to a year before they're allowed to release to other consoles or PC.
Microsoft just lost a hair under a $1 Billion on the hardware debacle that is the surface. Not to mention that all of their distribution and business partners for their core Windows product literally want them dead in a bag and dumped off a bridge following Windows 8. They aren't scared of SONY. They are terrified of their stockholders and their board of directors.Adam Jensen said:Oh, looks like Microsoft is really scared of Sony. I gotta say, I enjoy this console drama.
Indeed. I was actually just as insulted by their attempt to rigidly control game development for the console as I was for always-online, no-used-games, and the obvious ad data gathering devi- I mean Kinect. That is to say, a lot.Neronium said:How many more reversals can MS end up doing? I mean yes this is a good thing that the Indie developers now get to self-publish, but this should have been the fact from the get go and with the huge hissy fit they were throwing a lot of people are just gonna look down on this as a feeble attempt to try and get some people to go and develop more for the Xbox One.
Really, while it's a good thing this is still too little too late.
And have a GPU that's 50% more powerful in addition to having a less complicated to work with memory architecture.BrotherRool said:Well it's good to see competition in action. It's just weird that it's all one way, with one side scrambling to promise all the stuff the other people promised from the get go. And even with all this, a PS4 is still $100 cheaper thanks to the non-mandatory camera
Except it isn't, they've said that you don't *need* a kinect and have even announced a bundle that doensn't include a kinect if you don't want one.Sight Unseen said:The Kinect is still being touted as an "integral and essential component of the xbox one" and thus is still force-bundled with the console and beefing the price up by $100.Leaper said:I'm not really following news on Xbox One that much, but is there a single major contraversial thing left that wasn't changed/canceled since E3?
The Kinect will still be watching you play for the purpose of targeting ads at you.

Don't know where you get that idea from given this news story that has been going around for a few hours now:Revolutionary said:Except it isn't, they've said that you don't *need* a kinect and have even announced a bundle that doensn't include a kinect if you don't want one.
Mind telling me where you got that info? Complaints about a mandatory kinect are quite widespread and you are the first person I've heard to say that a kinect-less version is in the works.Revolutionary said:Except it isn't, they've said that you don't *need* a kinect and have even announced a bundle that doensn't include a kinect if you don't want one.Sight Unseen said:The Kinect is still being touted as an "integral and essential component of the xbox one" and thus is still force-bundled with the console and beefing the price up by $100.Leaper said:I'm not really following news on Xbox One that much, but is there a single major contraversial thing left that wasn't changed/canceled since E3?

OT: This is good, they're not going to be able to compete with PC in terms of indie friendliness but still it's a step in the right direction.
I don't know, it seems that it actually is a race between which of their policies they can do an about face with the fastestAkalabeth said:It's "about-face" not "about-race"

It's a case of too little too late. MS has just insulted my intelligence too much.Leviano said:It's amusing to me that even if MS revealed the console cured cancer, people would still be like

I have come to the conclusion that people aren't very objective any more. I'm personally waiting til release to see what we end up with then making my decision. I haven't pre-judged anything as of yet.

or maybe, you know, people will not magically flock back to the person that was beating them up yesterday just because they promise to play nice? If you tried to scam me, im not trusting you regardless if your legit or not. and it is good that people dont like Microsoft for what they did. history should not be forgotten.Leviano said:It's amusing to me that even if MS revealed the console cured cancer, people would still be like
