So yesterday, I found out that my main Xbox 360 profile, the one with all of my save data from all of my games, was corrupted. I saw "Recover Gamertag" on the Dashboard menu and gave it a look-see, but it seems in order to recover my profile, I need to get on Xbox Live. I can't, nor have I ever been able to get an Xbox Live connection. I need a solution.

And so I contact Xbox Support. I outline my problem and make certain that it's clear they know I've never had an Xbox Live account, never had an Xbox Live connection, and am currently incapable of getting a Live connection. This morning, I got a response.

Guess what the fuck it said.

I ask you, dear fellows, if it is indeed possible to un-corrupt my profile given my current predicament.

Are you sure you can't get an internet connection? You are managing to use the Escapist well enough.

If your profile has never been connected to XBL, then as far as I know, your profile is fethed.
Sorry, but I know how annoying a corrupt profile and data is, I've had it two or three times, only way I found to fix it was by recovering my gamertag from XBL.
Damn :|

It don't matter, if his profile is not on xbox live then he can't recover it anyway

I've tried numerous numerous times to get on Xbox Live in the past, but to no avail. Hell, my roommate had Xbox Live, but when I asked him how to get it, he said, "I got it by plugging it into my laptop." He didn't have any further details. Yeah, big freaking help.

If the profile's never been Gold activated, you're sunk, op. No way to recover non-Live profiles, as far as I know.

there's nothing we can do. i'd advise you start again with a live profile, to get a (slow) connection, use an ethernet cable to connect the xbox to your laptop/computer. or an ethernet adapter on a phone line if possible for a faster connection.

Am I missing something? What did it say? It feels like I'm supposed to know what it said, but I don't.

It told me to get on Xbox Live and use the Recover Gamertag function.

In spite of me making it clear in my message to the support team my situation with Xbox Live, I was not surprised by this response. Aggravated, yes, but certainly not surprised.

For future reference, bridge the connections on your computer by going into Network Connections / View Network Connections, select your ethernet port and your wireless connection with CTRL+click and select Bridge connections. Plug your XBox into the Ethernet port on your computer and you're away.

That's all assuming you're using a wireless connection, but pretty much everyone does that nowadays don't they?

That is really unfortunate but the thing is you HAVE to get Xbox live. Just use your friends ethernet cable and start a new account. I wish there was some other way but since you never put your profile on xbox live your screwed. Sowwy : (

Even if you could get on Xbox Live, you wouldn't be able to get your save games back. You would get your achievements but the actual saves are not stored on the Xbox Live servers.
