Who doesn't? Oh wait, the fantards don't.

Also anyone who claims MS's warranties and customer support are superior, regardless of fanboyism or not, I respectfully request you step outside.

Still on my first 360, no problems whatsoever in the year and a half I've been using it. Same with pretty much everyone I know who has it.

Luck of the draw, or people are just exaggerating as usual :p

Did you guys notice they didn't even Question the numbers? maybe they're playing damage control and it's Over 54.4%!
Ive got the 1st wave of Halo 3 xbox, and it only did Red rings twice. And it was just the 'Overheating let me cool down' red rings, not the 'UR SCREWED' red rings. Its never failed to turn on.

Hey, a new person is giving us the news today! Helloooo! Welcome to The Escapist! :D

edit: I have a feeling those figures are slightly off anyways, over %50 does seem really over excessive, considering I don't have any friends who have had problems with their 360's...
thank you :)

The survey wasn't exactly infallible, no. Bottom line, Microsoft made an uh-oh.

Everything Microsoft has made lately has been utter shite.

The new Microsoft Office software is over complicated and difficult to use.
The Xbox 360's hardware is frustratingly prone to catastrophic failure.
Windows Vista has compatability issues with practically everything (including the user) and is basically a rip off of OS-X by Apple. Windows 7 looks to be exactly the same...

Everyone I know who owns a 360 has had the RROD at least once and has had to replace their console. When I sent my 360 to get repaired they fucking lost the thing and I had to wait for 3 months before they declared it lost and sent me a new one. They were more pre-occupied with finding out who was to blame for it being lost (them or the courier).

They got a point I did buy it and there warranty is pretty good, oh well I guess the bright side is that I could have my 5th 360 instead of my 4th.

I RRoD'd once, and they sent me a new one free, so I can't ***** at them. They might have screwed up the start, but they've certainly picked up the pieces pretty well. It's a great console, so with that warranty, it's a pretty solid buy.

Exactly.

Failure rates add up... and over the course of a console's lifespan the probability increases that it will die. Maybe not in the first year, but eventually it will croak. Which means that people who have been playing theirs steady for over 3 years without any hiccups are in the minority.

"one of the best warranties" this could mean third best, putting them behind the curve. I love nonsense statements.

I am just praying that Windows 7 will restore any shred of dignity in them, so far, I've heard good things about it.

see the BIG problem here is that they keep releasing slightly tweaked models and not a good one they should devote more time into just working on it and fixing it then releasing a big fixed console instead of us CONSTANTLY having to send ours back to get a new one that will break for a different reason because they only fixed the reason it broke the first time

Whether them ignoring it proves that the Game Informer stat is accurate is hard to say, but what I think it does indicate is that the true number is not pretty. Even if it were 33%, far better than 54%, you're not going to see them come out and say "That number is a lie." Because then they'd be asked to prove it with the real number, which they're plenty reluctant to dole out.

It'd be like countering accusations that you slept with your sibling by offering sex with a first cousin as an alibi.

As far as failure rates always being on the rise, I would wonder how you effectively rate that. Is it failure within 3 years? Failure within expected life-span? All things fail eventually. One of my favorite quotes... "On a long enough time scale, the survival rate drops to zero," seems apt, but saying that all consumer items eventually reach a 100% fail rate doesn't really help in comparing them. Seems like a far better stat would be "average lifespan before failure", or "percentage of failures covered under warranty."

I've been using it for the last... 6 or so months, and I've quite enjoyed it. I never had Vista, so I can't be a good source for comparison, but Windows 7 has been a pleasure.

Unless you've got access to data that I haven't heard of, what's to say that they haven't already released one that fixes most of the issues, and brings the failure rate going forward more in line with the average for consumer electronics?

*EDIT* to avoid double-posting

For once, being a minority pays off. Go me.

Everyone I know except me and my step-bro have had the RROD, I think it's just luck of the draw. Also, the 360 CRASHES a lot less than the PS1, Gamecube and Xbox, so I think the love is due to just a new wave of reliability when it plays games from the last generation tbh.

anyways, upon topic, we saw the same thing with the Wii with its software drought - despite very few decent/critically acclaimed titles being released on the system in 08, it nevertheless saw a huge surge of sales due to Wii Fit, which got pretty "its alright I guess" sort of reviews.

edit: I have a feeling those figures are slightly off anyways, over %50 does seem really over excessive, considering I don't have any friends who have had problems with their 360's...
That's exactly the opposite for me, I had 2 fail60's along with my friend who is officially the unluckiest bastard in the world, he had 3 rings of death and then his latest system that overheated itself in under 2 hours of game play (it was in a room that was 74f and measured 20 * 45 and it sat out in the open next to a fan). He actually just went out and got a PC because they have a history of not being fucked up out of the box (especially not 3 times in a row) of course his first one was DOA but the NEW one he just got works just fine lol.

Wii tell him not to walk under any heavy objects

I would have written off Microsoft and the 360 a long time ago if it weren't for Achievements. It may be weird, but achievements are the only reason why I own a 360, and the only reason why I prefer it over my PS3. I know the PS3 has trophies...and I can't put my finger on it...but I frakkin hate the trophy system. I much prefer achievements.

it has no choice with its shitty reliability. I wonder how long it took them to practice that speech in the mirror before they could put it out with a straight face.
