And que the 9 year old fanboys calling Microsoft a ****** for not annoucing it right straigt away. But seriously, talk about milking a franchise for all its worth. They could at least let it go out with some dignity.

The last Halo game by Bungie. 343 Industries will be taking over for Bungie.
Oh, I see...

Never heard of 343 Industries though. So I'm not holding my breath for anything amazing.

Sorry 343 Industries...

Oh god, not more Halo, I've already had as much as I can put up with this Call of Duty craze.
So don't buy it. There's nothing to complain about.

The Halo franchise is in an exceptionally strong position at the moment so long as it is handled properly.
Halo 4 has the opportunity to be a truly exceptional game and escape what has become very tired by Halo Reach. Whilst i felt Halo Reach has been the best Halo yet, i don't think Microsoft will be able to get away with it again.
All know it is inevitable that Halo 4 will come but many people will now after the conclusion of the main story be much more open to larger changes in the formula.
I also feel even the loyal fans who have stuck with the franchise and have not a bad word to say about it wouldnt immediate cry foul of some change.
A sharper graphical style.
A hybrid of more than one genre. An FPS/RPG would be nice. A Halo along a similar vein to BioShock or Mass Effect.
I do however believe Microsoft should keep Halo away from Kinect except maybe in a minigame collection or any kind of spin off just not the main series.
Who wouldnt want to race The Master-Chief against Marcus Fenix :p

They really should adjust their naming conventions.

Halo 1 was actually Halo: Combat Evolved

Halo 2 and Halo 3 were just boring titles.

Halo 2 should have been "Halo 2: Religious Undertones and Loading Screens"
Halo 3 should have been "Halo 3.1: See If You Can Spot the Joke In This Title"
Halo ODST should have been "Halo 3.2: The 60 Dollar Map Pack".
Halo: Reach should have been titled "Halo 3.3: We Retconned Fall of Reach"

Now with Bungie gone, they can be more direct in their naming methodology:
Halo 4: Cash-Cow Auto-Milker
Halo 5: Please Swipe Your Credit Card Now For More Maps

343 Industries is not some unknown studio, well it sorta is, basically it is a group of former Bungie employees who wanted to stay at Microsoft and continue working on Halo games.

Well obviously they'll make another one - it's Halo and therefore will turn a profit -- bungie or not.

343 Industries is an internal Microsoft development studio assigned to oversee the Halo franchise, it's consists of many former Bungie employees and many others who have all at some point been a part of the franchise.

Halo 5? What about Halo 4?

More importantly, please don't tell me "Microsoft Home" is going to be some knockoff of Playstation Home. It'd bad enough Sony spends time and resources making that thing when they could be doing so much more with their platform. Don't join them, Microsoft. Please.

Let's be honest, though, we all know that there will eventually be a Halo 5, I'm just wondering what happened to Halo 4.
Exactly what I was thinking... get onto that before worrying about 5.
Wow, I got ninja'd twice. My first thought was literally, "Wait, what happened to Halo 4?". Then I read the last sentence of the article and I thought, "That's exactly what I was thinking."

So....That's exactly what I was thinking. What happened to Halo 4?
Maybe they consider Halo: Reach to be Halo 4 since, even though it's a prequel, was released after Halo 3?
Well if Reach is Halo 4, that what's Halo Wars?

Erm... Halo 3.5?

Maybe it doesn't count since it wasn't an FPS?

Hmmm...I don't know. I still think whole thing is just a hoax.

I dont understand why everyone aks where its Halo 4, Reach is Halo 4, yes its a prequel but it is a Halo title (not like Halo Wars), so instead of calling "Halo zero" you have Halo 4. Everyone here is just ranting because it is Halo and Microsoft, that stuff starts to get old.

Ok people, there are 2 and only 2 logical explanations. The most obvious one is that it's a joke, since the Kinect house is still only a concept, once it'll be out halo 5 will as well.
The other one is that halo reach is considered the 4th one.

Choose one, personally I choose the joke.

Halo: Reach was not Halo 4

I am willing to call this EPIC FAIL

Guys, guys, guys... settle down.

It seems as if the majority of posters in this thread haven't played the Halo games. There are easy explanations for most of the questions here.

First of all, the "5" in "Halo 5" is coming from Reach, as many have guessed - whoever made this considered Halo: Reach to take the place of Halo 4, which makes sense considering the only other games in the franchise, Halo: ODST and Halo Wars, were both spin-offs. Neither of these games were marketed or produced as a main chapter of the Halo franchise. (Halo: ODST was originally going to be Halo 3: ODST and was intended to be a $30 budget value title, placing itself more as a standalone expansion pack than as an individual title.) Thus one could consider the next main Halo game to be the fifth in the franchise. Hence Halo 5.

But we can be almost 100% certain that Microsoft will not title the next main Halo game Halo 5. First, the jump in numbering would be silly, even if you can reason out Halo: Reach taking the place of the fourth title. But more importantly, the numbered Halo games (Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3) refer specifically to Master Chief's story. That's why Halo: Reach wasn't titled Halo 4. Halo 3 was to "Finish the Fight" - specifically, Master Chief's fight.

So unless they bring back Master Chief this quickly (which would be a surprise, considering how Halo 3 ended), a numbered Halo game wouldn't make any sense. More reasonably we can expect the next new Halo game to have a subtitle a la "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare". (And besides, rumor has it that the Halo game coming out this year is some HD remake of Halo: CE.)
