Dawn of War may not be Halo, but it is fairly large game for the PC. Trying to get it back onto GFWL is at least some attempt to "recommit" themselves, even if it doesn't fix the problem in the first place.

Relic already added Steam Cloud to DOW2, it would be amazing if they ditch GFWL already and embrace Steamworks for vanilla DOW2 and Chaos Rising. It's just an impossible fantasy of course, but it would be nice.

You're getting achievements with Steamworks, just not Gamerscore.

you have got to the the only person who has ever said that, also your sol since its dumping gfwl and not looking back
I didn't understand the second bit... but still we're rare but there are a fair few of us who would rather play Retribution on GFWL. We aren't comparable to the amount of Steam fans but we do exist.
sol stands for sure out of luck
I cant wait for it to dump gfwl since it tends to make things laggy and the match making isnt very good and Im looking forward for it to not be a pain in the ass to get ppl together for games since that never really worked for me, like I would invite someone from my gfwl list and it just wouldnt work.

they are copying over all the player data into steamworks for retribution, not sure if you can still play the original without gfwl tho, probably not but your last stand levels and multi ranking should be copied over

Even if Microsoft claws back a developer to Windows Live theyve still got a mountain of work to get done to get anywhere near Steam.

Id usually have more to say on why Microsoft is doomed to fail but with Windows Live its just its user-friendlyness, popularity and library, all of which are inferior to Steam.

Well our experiences with GFWL greatly differ and I still love and support it.

THQ and Microsoft are great pals though... they won't be apart for too long. Just until Microsoft properly cleans up GFWL.

The only thing that could make steam better is if it merged with battle.net.. therefore I hope they never leave steam.. The only reason I haven't brought Fable 3 in-fact is it isn't on steam...

Ill be surprised if they can do that considering how bad its been for its existence, it started out working like the current 360 one works, they wanted ppl to pay to use it and that didnt fly at all on the pc, even if they do manage to fix it, I doubt pc gamers will ever trust them not to try and go back to a pay model

I think what clinched it for THQ is that they must submit every patch to Microsoft for 'quality testing' and pay for the pleasure; their reward for making DoW2 a GfWL game. For an RTS with a competitive multi-player this is the kiss of death as balance patches can't be rapidly rolled out. Relic would have committed way more in-house testing than they wanted to before submitting a patch. The game can remain with a serious balance issue for very long periods of time.

Microsoft just don't understand this and aren't even trying. They re-affirm their 'commitment' to the PC every year, it's time we stopped falling for it as if they will ever change.

Fixed. :p

On topic, considering how flawed GFWL still is, I seriously doubt THQ will change their minds regarding this. That said, the new marketplace could be an indication that Microsoft is more serious this time around. If that is the case, they might have some potentially compelling reasons to draw THQ back in.

The marketplace isn't enough, the whole damn system and the bureaucracy around it need an overhaul.

You want them to go back to GFWL? Then fix the bloody thing, it's a poorly designed piece of trash, if you want people to develop for it make it WORK first.

let's be honest, the Dawn of War [http://www.dawnofwar2.com/us/agegate] franchise isn't exactly big-time blockbuster stuff,
Wait... What?

We're still talking about what's considered one of the most innovating RTSs made lately, the same game that topped sales charts everywhere for weeks when it came out, even beating out The Lich King for two weeks in a row? One of the most significant games in pulling THQ out of the financial rut they were in?

Really, Dawn of War isn't "big-time" for you?
