I don't mind GfWL, but the application of both is really unnecessary IMHO. It should be GfWL or Steamworks.

I hope THQ stand their ground, though.

let's be honest, the Dawn of War [http://www.dawnofwar2.com/us/agegate] franchise isn't exactly big-time blockbuster stuff,
Wait... What?

We're still talking about what's considered one of the most innovating RTSs made lately, the same game that topped sales charts everywhere for weeks when it came out, even beating out The Lich King for two weeks in a row? One of the most significant games in pulling THQ out of the financial rut they were in?

Really, Dawn of War isn't "big-time" for you?
Compared with sales off multi-platform titles like Gears2 or God of War or Modern Warfare I dare say DoW isn't really "big-time"

Games for Windows Live the service Microsoft didn't pay enough attention to and ultimatly screwed up miserably.

My experience with the service was abysmal at best, I couldn't get any of my Fallout 3 DLC (purchased over the course of it coming out so it wasn't a ONE time event) because it wouldn't show up on the damn store half the time, it was unbearably slow to load pages and every 3 attempts was an error. Hell the in game display NEVER worked properly, the mouse would always be a good distance below what I'm selecting.

I can't say enough about just how abysmal my experience with GFWL was because I WANTED to buy things off their store and it was nothing but stressful and buggy.

I don't blame any company for not wanting to use the service because it just never worked for me. (Please don't quote me telling me that I'm wrong, this is MY experience and I'm not going to change my opinion because your time with it was good. It was NOT good for me and if you had a good time with it then lucky you.)

I think what clinched it for THQ is that they must submit every patch to Microsoft for 'quality testing' and pay for the pleasure; their reward for making DoW2 a GfWL game. For an RTS with a competitive multi-player this is the kiss of death as balance patches can't be rapidly rolled out. Relic would have committed way more in-house testing than they wanted to before submitting a patch. The game can remain with a serious balance issue for very long periods of time.

Microsoft just don't understand this and aren't even trying. They re-affirm their 'commitment' to the PC every year, it's time we stopped falling for it as if they will ever change.
Patches don't cost developers any money. Brad Wardell stated that they did when he was trashing the system, but he was also promoting his own. A mod on the GFW Forums stated that it was incorrect. They do charge on the 360, but not on the PC.

GfWL is, and has always been, shit. Dear THQ, go with Steam. Also: Titan Quest 2 please.

Never had issues with GFWL or Steamworks on my copy. I always wondered why they included both, but it never messed with the gaming experience.
Pretty much this. I don't understand how many people can hate on it when the friends of mine who have GFWL don't have troubles with it. It doesn't get in the way and isn't as frustrating as people make it out to be.

Ill be surprised if they can do that considering how bad its been for its existence, it started out working like the current 360 one works, they wanted ppl to pay to use it and that didnt fly at all on the pc, even if they do manage to fix it, I doubt pc gamers will ever trust them not to try and go back to a pay model
Yeah a payed model will never fly on the PC. But as long as they keep it free then there is nowhere to go but up.

At least they're trying!

Only Modern Warfare is a multi platform title there champ...

That said, what makes you think DoW didn't get the kind of sales Gears or God of War did? They didn't even release sales numbers... All we know is that it topped the sales charts for more than one week, even beating Wrath of the Lich King when it came out. It's my understanding those WoW expansions have quite a few sales.

So... It's an incredibly high quality game, loved by critics and fans, that toped sales charts... What exactly qualifies a game as "big time" again?
