I had a small giggle over the term 'Won't Abandon Core Gamers'. This implies that they haven't done it yet. Still, even if I don't own a console, I'm glad they aren't following in Nintendo's footsteps and deciding that motion-sensitive casual gaming is the 'future'.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Motion control is the future because it will slowly develop into complete VR and they need to fund the research somehow. Besides, with all of the Kinect hacks out there MS is bound to find one programmer that can code half decent and has good ideas to help advance this technology. That's the upside of people hacking your system, competence tests.

Motion gaming is a stepping stone to what most everyone agrees is the future, you just can't see the forest through the Wiis.
Got to agree with you there, but the current generation of motion tech just doesn't seem sophisticated enough - naturally I would love to communicate my commands to the game as directly as possible, but until it becomes fully immersive, preferably some form of VR, I'm afraid I'm going to stick with communicating via the imperfect medium of a mouse and keyboard.

And the war over what's "core" begins.

Or, rather, is sparked once again by an innocuous concept that Microsoft won't completely jump ship to Kinect.

What a terrible thing to say! We're not abandoning people....

50 million consoles sold, but only 20 million XBL sales? That's crap, perhaps MS should take the hint and make XBL free.
Microsoft should stop taking money from 20 million people to provide something to 30 million people? How does that make even the slightest bit of sense?

Also, Microsoft and Sony will abandon 'hardcore' gamers in the same way that Nintendo did.

(Hint: They didn't)

But 20 million worth of Gold memberships is more than nothing...

My thoughts exactly. The stories are rather similar; "We won't ignore the people who kept gaming alive just because we have a new audience." Don't worry guys, you can totally take Microsoft at their word on this one. They love smaller audiences with higher standards. Scout's honor.
What they didn't abandon the PC crowd. PC just doesn't get all the games or dlc that the 360 gets.
So the 360 wont be abandoned until they find their next gaming platform. Like a phone or something like that.

It's amazing that a company with so little loyalty to it's customers gets so much loyalty in return.

My mistake, I thought they were talking about the generations of gamers who've been PC gaming since dos; carry on.

Love from Core Gamers is fickle and mercurial. When the next Gears comes out, they'll be on Microsoft's side, when the next dance game for Kinect comes out you'll hear a lot of 'I knew this would happen, they're forgetting about us, sell out corporate whores.' So I wouldn't worry about it.
Too true man. That's the mob for you.

*looks at GFWL*
You already did abandon a lot of us.

Unless "core gamers" are those that only play the generic AAA titles and nothing else, then have to call themselves "hardcore gamers" so that they feel like they aren't nerdy and better than those of us that have been playing games for most our lives on a vast range of devices, not just a 360.

Yeah. Sad, isn't it?

*groan*

It is way to early in the morning for me to be reading such puns.

That hint isn't there to take. Xbox Live currently has thirty million members. That is 30 million, not 20 million. And that isn't so bad considering that not all countries get Xbox Live access (I certainly remember them making a big deal of bringing it to some new countries last year).

Do you smell that? Smells like.... bullshit.

Also, MS didn't actually develop any of those games they're listing as "core gamer" games. Bleh! I hate MS. Except for Windows 7. Mostly. GFWL tho... FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU

GFWL may be pretty crap, have around a 50% chance of working and put of most gamers by the mere mention of the name, but it is slowly updating.

Since I generally browse their marketplace a lot they have been steadily adding more games, GFWL and GFW. Plus one of the best points for me is all GFW games require no online access DRM.

I know I'm being a massive Microsoft fanboy... but still. I'm just that guy.

They say they aren't abandoning us across the board, while they continue to turn core games into games casual gamers can pick up and play, I, e the way fable went, could have been awesome but went for one button controls to make it easy for nubs to play.

I find it funny that to be a "Core gamer" I have to only play re-hashed shooters. I always thought I was a die hard gamer because I play RPG's, FPS, Adventure games and most other genre's. Thanks for setting me straight Microsoft.
Well said.

At this point, I will believe it when I see it. I recall their E3 conference last June. You know, the one where they talked about the non-kinect games for all of 5 minutes, before they spent the rest of the show going on about Kinect?

Keep me rolling in my beloved RPGs, and the other games I like to play.... Keep those games OFF the Kinect... THEN I will be happy.

Didn't they say 2011 was all about Kinect? That's not exactly 'core'. I'll just patiently wait and see what Rockstar has up it's sleeve, and enjoy my backlog when the shovelware storm comes a-blowin'.
Halo is a core game, hmmm, maybe they can have core and Kinect?

Halo Sports anyone?

Grunt bowling.

Brute boxing.

Jackal Javelin Throwing.

Sticky Grenade Tennis (Don't ask me how that will work).

Halo golf on all the Halo rings' finest golf courses.

Sounds like fun to me.

Concentrating 90% of their efforts on 360 development is pretty much the same thing as abandoning the PC market.
