Actually, beta was pretty awesome... but that's because it was only up to level 20 and we didn't notice how lame it gets after that. And how stupid leveling becomes.haruvister said:I was 'lucky' enough to get on the beta for Warhammer, so I had a preview of its shitness. LotRO is, frankly, on a totally different planet - it's really quite lovely.Nurb said:after wasting 50+ bucks on Warhammer Online, I'm not buying an MMO I can't try out first.
They've offered a free trial for well over a year now. 10 days is a pretty good length for a trial. And yes, you get to keep your existing characters if you upgrade your trial account.Nurb said:Well until they offer free trials that aren't only in small windows of time, they arent getting my money
after wasting 50+ bucks on Warhammer Online, I'm not buying an MMO I can't try out first.
That's the thing... it was really immediate and rewarding for the first hour or so, but how's an MMO ever going to sustain that for weeks and months?Abedeus said:Actually, beta was pretty awesome... but that's because it was only up to level 20 and we didn't notice how lame it gets after that. Someone should just continuously say "merge servers" to him and see if the twitches turn into a dance of some kind.whaleswiththumbs said:Those are the words of an eccentric man.And please don't mention it, it makes me twitch unpleasantly.
Uhm. No. We are talking about WAR all the time, try to keep focused.Gormourn said:You're talking about AoC, aren't you? Leveling past the 20s in LOTRO is fine. The zones are great and beautiful, the are a few instances at that level, and lots of quests in more then one zone.Abedeus said:Actually, beta was pretty awesome... but that's because it was only up to level 20 and we didn't notice how lame it gets after that. You see, on Yggdrasil, Earth was in the middle of the trunk, between nifilhiem, helheim, and the rest of the lower worlds and....oh nevermind. It doesn't.suicidal pencil said:The important question: When will middle earth get big enough to the point where we have to call it upper earth?
Yeah I stopped playing like a month ago so i could try world of warcraft. and i have to say LOTRO is just another knock off of WoW. but in a different world.DRADIS C0ntact said:Not entirely true. You can play as an orc, goblin, spider, or warg...but you are restricted to the PvP zone The Ettenmoors when you do. It's not all mindless PvP action either, there are numerous quests to complete when you're playing a monster character. But you will get ganked a lot if you play solo. And I do mean a lot...hippykiller said:Can someone please tell me why you cant play as a bad guy in LOTRO? you could be a orc or a goblin or a wannabe-Ring Wraith. but unfortunately you have to be the good guy.
Anyways, I'm happy LOTRO is expanding. I've had a lifetime account for well over a year now, but I don't play it anymore. I've just grown tired of MMOs. I can't see myself playing LOTRO again...unless they release a new server. In that case, I may venture back over to the game. New servers are always fun. I'm always up for starting out fresh.
You actually can play these in the PvMP area known as Ettenmoors. I know several people who do nothing but play monsters. With the quests and pvp aspect of the area it is quite fun.hippykiller said:Can someone please tell me why you cant play as a bad guy in LOTRO? you could be a orc or a goblin or a wannabe-Ring Wraith. but unfortunately you have to be the good guy.
I have to say this quote is probably one of the funniest things I hear all the time. Games being knock offs of WoW. Blizzard rarely has it own thoughts when it comes to WoW. I can point out hundreds of features in WoW that started in Ultima Online, Everquest, Asheron's Call 1 & 2, Dark Age of Camelot, Lord of the Rings Online, and even Warhammer.hippykiller said:Yeah I stopped playing like a month ago so i could try world of warcraft. and i have to say LOTRO is just another knock off of WoW. but in a different world.
Because the game is supposed to emulate the heroic style of Tolkien's writing.hippykiller said:Can someone please tell me why you cant play as a bad guy in LOTRO? you could be a orc or a goblin or a wannabe-Ring Wraith. but unfortunately you have to be the good guy.
ah well that makes sense. that you very much.Flying-Emu said:Because the game is supposed to emulate the heroic style of Tolkien's writing.hippykiller said:Can someone please tell me why you cant play as a bad guy in LOTRO? you could be a orc or a goblin or a wannabe-Ring Wraith. but unfortunately you have to be the good guy.
Also, if they were to make evil races playable, they would have to remove the entire "Dread" function from the game, because "Dread" I.E., being around Naz'gul, would INCREASE your hope, considering they were on your side.
It's against the spirit of the game and the mechanics. That's why.
