Notch actually renamed the Hell region, to rid the game of any religious connotations. So yeah.

This article is a classic case of difference in ideological interpretation. What may seem crazy to you fine people (usually intelligent, liberal atheists/agnostics it seems) seems a perfectly logical conclusion to a highly religious person: Minecraft is a game meant to spread the word of the bible.

Almost certainly an incorrect deduction of the gameplay experience of Minecraft, but it SEEMS perfectly logical to a highly devout Christian.

*snicker*HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I-I can't believe, hee hee....okay I can control it.*Ahem* this is quite silly because...cause....HAHAHAHAHAHA, really? A christian game? As I think someone stated up above me, they renamed hell the nether because he didn't want anything to do with religion.

I forget where but i remember reading somewhere that the name "Hell" was changed to "The Nether" to avoid any religious affiliation of any kind

Minecraft is actually a Freudian allegory for deflowering a woman. The virgin world is huge and mysterious, waiting for the Man to explore her caverns and reap the rewards. Of course, the Man brings with him his own guilty past. The Creepers represent the destruction of STDs, the Skeletons are jealous ex-lovers, and the Spiders are his self-doubt of his own sexual prowess. Thus, the Man must dominate the woman's world and bring in his own masculinity through the torches of male enlightenment and giant penis-shaped towers.
See, I can make shit up too!
Well done sir, well done.

It's interesting that anyone would use a game as an argument for intelligent design as it just highlights the recursive nature of the watchmaker argument. In other words, procedural design means that the game is complicated and must have been designed. The designer is a human who is even more complicated than the game, and therefore must have been designed. So what do we think of the creator of the human who must be more complicated than the human?

..well that it must have been created too...

utter bollocks, sorry.

I'm pretty sure that was not in Notches mind when creating this game (he hasn't mentioned anything). I think this is just a few desperate Christians trying different ways to try and spread the "word of god". And to be honest, it's not working.

As a Christian, all I can do is laugh. That site is full of shit, and this is definitely the cream of the crop.

Anything can be twisted, for example:

Halo tells us that the coventant, like the muslims, are trying to destroy us so they can rule this world as god made for us!

Nothing like what it was meant to be viewed as, but as I said very little cannot be twisted from its original intent.

OT: I dont think thats what Notch was trying to do when he made this game. They must really salavating for the Beat of Minecraft though.

Minecraft can be a deeply profound game when you think about it after a while, but I highly doubt it's of any religious persuasion.

And that sounds like a veiled troll.

Like in the same way pokemon was apparently an anti-Christian game?
I've always thought Pokemon was just an anti-sanity game :)

Surely if they're looking for Christian games, um...Dante's Inferno? That's basically chapter-and-verse biblical orthodoxy combined with expanded-bible-universe details, isn't it?

This shit is hilarious! Some of my favourite quotes;
"For example, the player learns through trial and error to build his shelter on solid rock instead of falling sand, much as we should build our lives on the rock of Jesus."
"Torches keep this from happening, conveying the importance of light in a dark world. This makes the player more receptive to the good news that Jesus is the light..."
A damn fine review if I've ever read one.
