If that was Gav's first game he really wasn't that bad, especially considering most of the other players would have been playing far longer. When I first started I kept getting killed by standing under the towers and losing to the easy AI.

Besides, with all that gormless staring into space and total obliviousness, it was obvious that he was perfectly role playing Ogre Magi's character

Edit: oh yeah, I would love to hear a MoS song on dota 2. Dota 2 actually has some great music and I would love to hear what Gav could do in that style.

I understood nothing except Ogre Emotional Support Level: 100% moment and how I am curious on what was happening. Can any DOTA2 players explain the weave of the battle, maybe, for people who don't play this game and why that Faceless Void thing was bad (if it was)?

The main idea is to escort computer controled creep (the little red or green guys) down one of three lanes to your opponent's base so they can act as cannon fodder for enemy defenses and the opposing creep waves. There's also neutral areas between lanes "the jungle" with optional monsters who aren't on either team but can provide extra income for the player controlled heroes like Ogre, Crystal Maiden and Anti Mage.

Early game is mostly in lanes where each side tries to kill opposing creeps for money and experience as well as to push the lanes towards the enemy base and turrets.
Mid game usually after the first tower or two in a couple of the lanes have been taken has some players start to roam between lanes to help team mates push other lanes and kill enemy heroes for gold and experience.
Towards the end of the game players usually move around in groups to assault each others bases where the three lanes converge.

Faceless Void is a Hero and a Hard Carry meaning he starts out weak but gets a lot stronger when he has expensive items so he usually stays in his lane farming creeps until late game, it's entirely possible to not see the enemies hard carry or your own for most of the game if they're playing particularly passively and not taking any risks.

I thought at first that Faceless Void wasn't a character but some kind of ultimate rare item that other side triggered to change the whole landscape, sort of like a nuke, to make a game instant hard-mode for the other side. On re-watch it made more sense now

And when he's not freezing you and everyone around you literally, he also "dodges" damage. No, he doesn't "evade" or "not get hit". He gets hit and doesn't give a shit, because time magic or some shit.

Yeah... That doesn't really work, the best thing you can seriously do to learn very early on is just play single player and try and last hit everything you can (the little enemy creatures that try to attack your buildings). Then once you get used to the very basics of last hitting, moving, etc you can play against a single bot and learn the very basics of playing against a hero. Once you get the basics down it's actually possible to teach people from there, because honestly at that point it's not game knowledge you need it's a grasp of the controls (and this isn't insulting the only people that actually get the controls the first time are people who played RTSes or other games like DotA)

Its that kinda game. 100+ heroes, of which maybe 6, are referred to with their in game names most of the time. Acronym's everywhere, and that's before you even worry about what they're Dota 1 names were. The items are just as bad, again acronyms all over the place and legacy names. It's a strange situation where you can tell someone to get a Lothar's and maybe 30% of the player base will know what you mean.

Of course, the classy response would be to say "That Personal Assistant isn't going to gank me, she's got so much work to do and she's got to get to the Laundromat by 5" or "I don't see how toilet paper is going to get me too mid any faster." Eventually, they'll start vocabulising more betterer just to shut you up.

I had basically only ever played games on Xbox before Dota and so I had no clue how to attack stuff when I first joined. I don't think I even got to the lane before abandoning. Just died in the jungle a few times.
Of course I chose morphling for my first ever game as well. My team was not happy with me.

Now, 1970 hours in, I even go positive some games. Its amazing.

It was my first ever game against other people. I got like, 6 kills in the next one.

I have some tips since you are a new player

1: Enemy Towers are bad. If you hit an enemy champ while under them they will target you over the creep.

2: Your towers are your friends. Try to keep the enemies under them for as long as possible.

3: When you get in team fights just spam all of your abilities. As soon as Cool down on them stops spam them some more.

4: If you see two or more enemies and you are alone please do not try to man mode in. Try to make sure there is at least as many people with you as there are against you when going into a fight. Don't be a hero.

5: Last one. Watch your health and Mana. Health regen is slow and it is very easy to get bursted down to dead.
