Urrrrrggghh. Why do I never learn?

Anyway, this review actually got me interested in the game, which I believed just about impossible. It appears that the one big thing that bothered me enough about F3 so as not to play it any further than exiting the vault has been fixed in this installment: The bleak colors and scenery. I'm still ignorant of why people get so weird about these games at all because I've never played F1 and F2, but I do recognize interesting features and mechanics when I see them, and New Vegas appears to have them in spades. I suppose I'll wait another six months to play it so most of the apparently vital patchwork will have been done by the time I pick it up, but the fact that I'm willing to play any Fallout game after the (imo) craptastic greyish-brown rubblefest of F3 should make clear to you just how good a job you did with this review, my friend.

By the way: Still waiting on you to get War for Cybertron. :p

I'm currently on my second play-through and I'm planning to look everywhere this time out so I can find all its hidden goodies as I feel I barely scratched the surface on my first time out. While I had a ton of completed quests on the Pip-Boy, I'm also fairly sure I'd only done about 1/4 of the overall quests at least. A small complaint, apart from the bugs, I have is with the super human sniper that is Boone. I haven't fired my guns in a bloody age since I recruited him. By the tome I've unholstered my weapon, Boone has dropped nearly all of the people that where going to attack me. Example, for some stupid reason I can't fathom out, I was being chased down by about 20 of the White Hand group (I'd been banned from the casino so it's not like it matters I've killed them all. ...Right?) so I went out to get my weapons back, the doorman was snuffed out by someone, got Boone back and lead him into the casino. He cut down at least 14 of the guys. I mean, it's nice to have a sniper who could shoot my eyelashes off at a distance greater then a mile but I kinda miss the hurly-burly of having to shoot people myself.
I have to agree, I stopped taking Boone around with me as he was just too powerful and my screen slows down every time he gets a kill which is annoying.

By the way, a nice tip: Go to options and put the killcam to 'player view'... no more exploding Radscorpions flashing onto your screen and scaring the shit out of you! Well, that's if they did scare you, like they did me.

I'll get it eventually... I have literally been too broke and with so many great games coming out it just hasn't fit into my budget. Fancy a few games of Black Ops this week?

Great.

This just reminds me that my data got completely fucked yesterday and I have to start all over again.

Now I'm sad.

360 Version, in case you were wondering.

I've not had the data corrupting crash in 70+ hours of playtime, here's a few tips for your next playthrough:

Go to options, switch all 3 autosaves off. Save manually every 10-15 minutes

Avoid the 'Come Fly With Me' quest, it seems to be the most common point where peoples' files corrupt.

After each play session, copy your last save onto a USB, then remove the USB from the XBOX until you're saving onto it again

Avoid using the pre-order DLCs. Delete them and never use them.

Clear your cache regularly (I've been doing it once a day)

I hope these help you avoid having your game ruined again!

Nah, never really been into CoD games, and the fact that the game is only available in censored form here made me file it under "Don't give a shit about this one". (Imports don't work either - Steam will just localize the data and cut your beautiful uncut copy of the game.)

Got lots of work at the moment anyway, and on those rare occasions I do have some free time I play the Last Stand game mode of Dawn of War II.

I agree with you about everything relating to Fallout 3, which is why I think I like F3 more than New Vegas- though I still love New Vegas (though it crashed on me 42 hours in and I have to start all over.)

That was a great review! In depth, and very descriptive. Awesome job.

Thanks very much!

Also, have a look at post #47 above, a few tips I've found for avoiding the save glitch.

Let me know if it works out for ya :)

Ah, I forgot you were in in Germany. That sucks man, I was under the impression they only censored the WW2 games over there. Funny how Germany is so forward thinking and liberal in some ways and then something like that gets put in place.

Nice review, I'm definitely getting excited for this game! I'll wait until it's well patched though, and it'll be cheaper then so I'll win forever. :D

Unless the patch has bugs.

This is obsidian we're talking about.

Oh, and by the way, your review of Bioshock 2 I read a while back was part of the reason I decided to try it and it's FUCKING AWESOME.

So yeah, woo!

Good! I'm glad you enjoy it, I thought Bioshock 2 was very under-rated.

I can't wait for Infinite, the Sky setting will be so awesome. I hope they tighten up the shooting a bit though.

Good review. And about your game-ending problem... there's already a mod for that :D
But your on the 360... shame.

Anyway, I'm waiting until Christmas to get the game. I know Obsidian games, and this is a Bethesda engine. So yeah.

Personally, I found Fallout 3 to be a good game, but a horrible Fallout game. It tried to be SUPER SERIOUS!!, and in doing so basically amplified every imperfection. The story was silly, your father was an idiot, the game would never let you explain why you had to leave the vault(seriosuly, you can never tell your father that after he left, the Overseer went insane, killed Jonas, and tried to kill you). But the atmosphere and little enviornmental set-pieces were easily the best parts of the game. You know, the parts where a small story was told through the enviornment. Those were expertly done. The traps were really good to. Sounds kind of odd to praise them, but its true.

Anyway, good review, glad New Vegas is a proper Fallout game, and here's hoping by Christmas either the devs or mod community fix most of the bugs. Especially that bug that basically erases saved games.

Well Bioshock 2 showed a vast improvement in combat over the first I thought. Thought that was more in terms of plasmid/weapons dynamics rather than how the guns actually handled. I thought that was the more important thing really, and honestly, who needs guns when you have HOT SPINNING DEATH.

God, I loved that drill...

Wow.

Would it not have just been easier to say 'I don't agree with you that Nirvana are good?'

Apparently not.

well it would have been easier had I not put in the extra effort to include a jaded hyperbole

Yeah, the sudden 180 turns I was doing in Freeside due to the muggers he was massacring got annoying fast. And the amount of head-shots he gets is absurd! For me, it's about 7 out of 10 kills by him are head-shots. And my previous complaint about his sniping was given a kick in the ass today by my trip to Vault 34. Dear God, I could've used him then.

And I've done that, so any time Boone does snipe the testicles off of a Bloatfly, it doesn't give me a close up of it. Plus, I get to reload my Hunter Shotgun in sexy slo-mo. Hell yeah.

Huh. And there was me, not saving in Novac as I thought saving there was what was buggering up my old saves.

Good review, though I have to disgree with your opinion on the DC Wasteland. Asthetically, I find it and the Mojave equally pleasing. However, DC struck me as desolate, and not in a way I wanted from a Fallout game. I grew increasingly bored between missions, relying on the fast travel because I just grew so bored wandering in the areas between Tenpenny Tower, Megaton, and the Citadel/Rivet City (they're close enough I usually group them together). All I would seem to encounter is hostile NPCs and the ocassional trader. New Vegas, while still feeling very empty, also feels very much alive to me. I find myself routinely encountering traders or patrols from the various factions that I'm friendly with.

I have to agree with the fallout 3 analogy. I really didnt like the way this game played out and i have played and completed it 3 times now. Explored most of the surrounding territory and visited most of the important side quests and youtubed, wikied everything else. why? because i cant be arsed to grind the same quests and reputations multiple times for little or no reward other than a 4 sentence monologue in the end of a game that explains all the bullshit that happens with them afterwards.

In fallout 3 the main character is a banished vault dweller from vault 101 that is banished from his vault etc. IT makes sense that he / she is abit of a blank slate at the beginning. But this, your a frikken delivery boy shot in the head. Give him a backstory for christ sake, relatives, past relationships. ANYTHING that roots this guy / gal SOMEWHERE.

It is not fun being evil as in there is no megatron to blow up or major awesome rainbow of evil sparkle anywhere. Legion got fucking shafted, with only 5 major quests.

Its not fun being good because there is no major awesome rainbow of good sparkle anywhere. NCR are a bunch of jerkwads.

It is not fun persuading people to do your bidding because there is no situation where doing so would be more fun than seperating heads from body and you have no situations where weapons of superior firepower at your disposal affects the way the game plays out.

HELIOS ONE spesifically was a major dissapointement in my eyes. The brotherhood, and enclave quests as well.

I dont feel cheated but there are few locations and far in between conversations i can call epic with a lackluster culimination of player effort. Benny and the casino quests are too easy. The hardest enemy you can face is a deathclaw ;/
