Mirrors' edge looks very appealing in a post assasins' creed/prince of persia kind of way and the story line, although no bioshock (at least so far), seems new and interesting enough to warrant my attention. Today, thanks to Kotaku, I discovered something that's allowed the game to lay claim to even more of my much coveted attention. The story line is, in part, penned by one Rhianna Pratchett, daughter of the extremely talented, Terry Pratchett, of Diskworld fame.
I didn't even know he had a daughter.

Let's hope talent is at least part genetic.

Also; bonus points if the luggage follows you around the game.

So is this sterile city a future version of Ankh-Morpork. I hope not.

I like the look of Mirrors Edge just because of the similarities between this and 1984. Not many games do this, especially EA games.

if the luggage does follow you, just stop for a moment and imagine the combat.

Solider shoots at you, luggage eats him. fight over. and it would be awesome.

I'll be getting this game solely for the gameplay, not the story. If it manages to not use every single, and I mean every dystopian future cliche it'll suffice because the gameplay is just so compelling.

This one has been *completely* off my radar, heard about it the other day and now think it looks awesome.

This. Plus the story at least has more potential than the average Big Guy with Guns 3.

It raises alarm bells on linearity. The city can not be a realistic city otherwise there would be buildings you could jump to but can't escape from without a 10 story drop. After watching the gameplay it looks like they are recycling the obstacles on top of buildings that you free run over. I am also wondering if there is only one specific path to go from point A to point B or if you are provided with a realistic free running experience which conflicts with my first point.

I love the story from what little I've heard of it so far. Sure it's a cliche' dystopian future game, but less like cyberpunk or run down Orwellian(sp?) and more glossy and well preserved that has this eerie feel to it. Asides, taking down an evil government in games has always appealed to my inner anarchist.

Sure it "looks" interesting. However, I'm not sure about it. I mean EA has their tag on it. Which gives me a doubting mentality.

Interesting, but I don't think I'm going to like it.

I like my FPS games with obscene amount of bullets and explosions with 100% destructible environments.
Off topic but:
Ever played Warmonger...? If you haven't, do so. Free game, basically created to "advertise" AgeiaX or whatever. It's free, it's a PC murderer, but has awesome graphics and fully destructible environment. You can destroy everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING.

On topic: I can not wait for this game... Mirror's Edge has kept my hopes up that Portal wasn't the last truly original game for the next 10 years.

1) Epic.

"Terry Pratchett, of Diskworld fame."

2) Its Discworld

3) Assassins creed meets prince of persia? If this is indeed the case, it has much potential.

Pretty much the latter. Figuring out the best route from A to B and then getting there is most of the point of the game.

The degree of free roaming is what will decide this for me.
If it's a whole city you can leap around like crackdown i'll get it.
If it's a linear A-B with just a few options on how to get there then I think I may pass.

I'm seeing a lot of parallels between this game and Assassins Creed (of which I am still impatiently waiting for any hint of a sequal). This game looks beautiful, and unlike the majority of MMOs and RPGs (J or otherwise) most of the trailers are on actual gameplay footage and not the pretty cutscene iceing on a rather bland and tasteless gameplay cake.

Free running is something I've always wanted to do but dont have the stamina speed to pull off. The creativity is there, I just need a better body and games like this give that to me.

I'm looking forward to Mirror's Edge it looks like it could do platforming well in first person (althouh personally I've never found frist person jumping as difficult as some people seem to.
Oh and why do people keep saying it's distopian? The developers comments on first trailers said that it was a nice place to live.

Mirror's edge looks very very promising. It's very new and mostly original, for the gameplay at least. Maybe the story will rock too, who knows. It sure is pretty.
But there's still a huge chance this game will fail, and fail hard. We'll just have to wait and see.
Sure, the game is probably going to be pretty linear and there probably won't be any multiplayer, but that's not always a bad thing. The Half Life series is a fantastic linear game and M.E. gameplay would be to hard to make an effective and fun multiplayer mode out of.

I haven't followed this game very much so i'm not much informed about it, well i know that the protagonist is a girl and that the game is place in a dystopian future (like all games nowadays) but what's the genre?
Parkour (sp) FP Platformer (see 'Prince of Persia' and 'Assassins Creed' but First Person)

For all it's potential faults, I'm definitely going to be playing "Mirror's Edge" instead of "COD WaW" when they are simultaneously released. WWII... again? bah. FIRST PERSON FREE RUNNER... hm... very interesting. In fact, the only thing that may make me back track to COD world at war would be the flame thrower... I mean.. come on... FLAME THROWA!

Correction: Big "Manly" Guy with Big Manly Guns 17.
