I'm not really sure how the parkour thing would work with the whole right-path being highlighted for you thing. Isn't the main appeal of using Parkour in games being able to choose your own route to the point you want to get to? Unless what they show you is more a suggestion system than rigidly enforced.

I'm still undecided about this game.
None of the gameplay videos have had a route suggestion system in evidence.

Also, apparently proper freerunners are impressed at the presentation of their sport [http://kotaku.com/5065010/professional-free-runners-talk-mirrors-edge]. Which bodes well.

Oh and why do people keep saying it's distopian? The developers comments on first trailers said that it was a nice place to live.
If you don't mind total government surveillance at all times and in all aspects of your life, and heavy handed responses to social nonconforimity. Of course.

Yeah, I think you can turn the "right-path" thing off.

It looks good, but I think I'll sit on the fence until someone nearby buys it, impresses me, then I'll get it.

Does it have anything multiplayer or is it all singleP driven?

I've had my eye on Mirror's edge since I saw the article in EGM and a preview, somewhere. I'm hoping that the "follow me" red path can be turned off, there are multiple ways to go, multiple ways to sucseed at a section, ways that guarentee failure, no matter how good you are, and that the combat can in fact be completely avaoided. And on top of allthat I hope the controls dont suck.

While thats not a lot to ask. I dont think it'll happen. Or the gameplay is so furiously difficult or open worlded, that the red "follow me" is required.

Something I would like to have happen, is if you die, guess what no checkpointwith auto save. I think that would be a fun aspect, if not horrible frusturating to the player who would just run off a building, expecting to respawn.

Yeah they are just suggestions, and you can switch them off on the harder modes methinks.

It's been mentioned in one or two interviews that there is an obvious path in many instances (highlighted by the color red). However players can roam as they please with the objective of getting to their destination in mind.

I'm starting to think of this as Jet Set Radio sans the tagging, and with a lot more control (instead of jump-grind-jump-tag-grind-jump-grind).

Mirrors' edge looks very appealing in a post assasins' creed/prince of persia kind of way and the story line, although no bioshock (at least so far), seems new and interesting enough to warrant my attention. Today, thanks to Kotaku, I discovered something that's allowed the game to lay claim to even more of my much coveted attention. The story line is, in part, penned by one Rhianna Pratchett, daughter of the extremely talented, Terry Pratchett, of Diskworld fame.
I didn't even know he had a daughter.

Let's hope talent is at least part genetic.

Also; bonus points if the luggage follows you around the game.
Rhianna Pratchett, eh? I didn't know he had a daughter either, but Terry Pratchett is possibly my favorite author of all time.

I hadn't been following the development of Mirror's Edge very closely-- until now.

I dont folow much news on games, as I have other things to waste time on, like, not doing ym class work, something I should get to. However, this is something I may look towards picking up. is there someone, who would point out a release date, if it's been announced so far?

Reguardless, I'll likely pickthis game up myself as it looks like a descent way, even or especially if it sucks deeply, to say this is a good system, heres how to make it far better.

I am totally looking forward to Mirror's Edge! It comes out at a good time to; right about when I will be getting bored of Gears of War 2.

I've heard the highlighting effect can be turned off if you don't want it railroading you and gradually disappears as you get further into the game.

This game looks very, very intresting, and certainly an idea that hasn't been done before. I see it as an interesting experiment, just as Spore was an experiment. Whether we actually get good gameplay is another matter entirely.

I love the story from what little I've heard of it so far. Sure it's a cliche' dystopian future game, but less like cyberpunk or run down Orwellian(sp?) and more glossy and well preserved that has this eerie feel to it. Asides, taking down an evil government in games has always appealed to my inner anarchist.
Amen.

No, you'll be doing FedEx quests. Which is the entire point, Faith being a package courier and all.

aside from the package delivery aspects, (I am still on the fence about the story) I think this looks like a promising game. I like the idea of a first person game that doesn't really focus on combat, and more on using the environment to your advantage to get around and avoid death. Hopefully the demo will make me a little more enthused about the story.

Too bad it's being released by EA... I can already feel the smell of DRM
*raises eyebrow*

That made no sense whatsoever.
"I can smell it, like a sixth sense"
"Actually... that would be one of the five"

Thanks Buffy.

Nobody's given me a straight answer, what is DRM?
