So, a got into playing Mirrors Edge again and I can't help but remember the common criticism of the game. The story.

So my question to you all is..

Am I the only one who completely understood the story the whole way through?

It made sense to me even without watching the cutscenes between levels.

Oh yes, the completely fucking useless cliffhanger ending that has become so popular.

Why do game developers find this perfectly acceptable to tell us that if we want the story completion we will only be able to if we pay 50 dollars for your sequel that you might not even make.

Yeah i understood it first time. Never understood the criticism. Thought the story was a bit weak though. Terrible ending.

If the sequel was a guarantee, I'd have been fine with it.

The only cutscene I watched was the last one. It still made sense to me though... But it was awful.

I played ME and loved it. Sure it was short, but what it delivered was a very very well done experience that never got old. I don't even know why anyone would bother trying to pick up a gun when it's far more fun to try and use the environment and manueverability to beat out your pursuers.

But yes, god damn cliffhanger endings must die. At least they actually are making ME2, so we won't end up blue balled like we did with Advent Rising.

Yeah, I've seen copies for 20 euros over here, which is crazy by our country's standards. For example, Dark Sector is still selling for 60 euros in some stores.

I didn't really get it for an interesting story, so any faults with it never really bothered me.

It's not hard to understand. It's just poor and cheaply thrown together at the last minute.

Mirrors Edge kind of falls into the same opinion as Assassin's Creed did (Which I loved). Too many people listening to the reviewer's opinions instead of forming their own buy actually playing the game themselves. Both ME and AC are very good games IN MY OPINION, and not by some reviewers opinion. (Yes you, IGN).

Heres the thing, I like Yahtzee, but I take his reviews with a grain of salt, he tends to hate many games i like, so for me, his reviews are purely entertainment only. A lot of people on this board tend to act like Yahtzee is always watching them, and give opinions based on what Yahtzee would like/do.

The story was perfectly understandable, it just stank of We've got really awesome gameplay but we need to throw something together to link everything up and give people a reason to play through.

Didn't notice the bad ending, the song caught me up and I was in the credits before I knew it.

LOVED the game, but let me explain. Look up synesthesia on wikipedia. I have that. Mainly colour associations and something like the visualisation display on the Xbox 360's music player running through my head. The scenery, colour scheme and soundtrack just clicked for me, and I was like a deer in the headlights. Gameplay wasn't half bad, plus I think quick. Bit short, but nothing wrong with the plot.

Of course, I am a freak...

I understood it. What little there was to understand.

As cliche as it sounds, I agree with Yahtzee's take on the story. I mean - who the hell are you delivering messages for? It's not like you ever meet them. In fact, this story has an incredible similarity to Mark Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. Both involved a large, wealthy party improving the city, and both involve you, the main character, doing absolutely everything you possibly can to stop them.

At least in Getting Up they actually did something to you to actually make you want to hassle them.

I really don't think that the ending classifies as a cliff-hanger. It is a mild one at best, nowhere near as severe as other some other endings in videogames, film, television etc.
