Ooh, the misconception that those two are equal when they aren't is one I hate. They are so close that it doesn't matter if you round up, but mathematically they are not the same.ManInRed said:That .9999...forever is less than 1. When they are in fact equal.
To be honest, that *kinda* fits with the stereotype that any canuck, excluding certain prone-to-rage French Canadians, are the most civil, mellow, well-adjusted humans on the face of the planet. This is coincidentally one of the things that personally drives me crazy. >.<aegix drakan said:-snip-
- That nice guys can never get girls. (Totally not true. I'm a super nice guy, not tough at at all, and I have girlfriend.)
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. But some of those just irk me.
This is the other misconception that can throw me into a brain-meltingly catastrophic sh*tfit. People should take some initiative & properly educate themselves, instead of relying on the "talking heads" on the TV/internet for their complete daily, real-world infodumps. The masses would be far less susceptible to the insultingly obvious, exploitative, biased "research study info" certain overzealous female interest groups and lobbyists push on us.mjc0961 said:On the subject of rape, I'm sick of people acting like women are the only people who get raped and men are the only people who do the raping. Any person of any gender can be a rapist, and any person of any gender can be raped. Stop acting like it's something only women have to deal with, world.solemnwar said:*snip*
I understand your annoyance at the misuse of the terms- but please PLEEEEEAAAAAAAAASSSSSSEEEE don't stick to your own misconception that all Americans are like or even agree with Sarah Palin. That's like saying all Britons think like Tony Blair, or all Japanese think like Ryu Matsumoto.BiscuitTrouser said:Someone please educate people on what socialism and communism are. Thanks.
When people (not gonna lie here its americans) scream "COMMUNISM!" At each other it hurts me. Deep inside my brain.
An interview at Sarah Palins book signing gave the quote "Obama wrote a book all about Stalinism and communism"
I weep.
The process is just cosmetic surgery and like you said hormone therapy. Although this make them look like men and women on the outside the inside of their body is still their original genders. A woman that becomes a man still has her womb and a man that becomes a woman can't magically grow a womb.Innegativeion said:That's strictly speaking not true. The only difference between a post op male to female transexual would be the genes (x and a y instead of double x), but genes don't dictate gender, the body does. Genes are a set of instructions for bodily construction, but a baby isn't male or female until it's done being constructed.. Changing someone's gene for eye color for example wouldn't magically change the eye color, the body would have to acknowledge the change and make new pigment.
Since such transitions take place long after gender is defined, pre-birth, and the individuals take large amounts of hormone pertaining to their intended gender, despite having the "wrong" genes, they're not going to revert extensive surgery. Genes are just instructions, doesn't matter what they say if the result is altered.
Do... do people actually think that? Really? That's kind of funny.Meatramen said:That there are polarbears in Sweden...
Uhm... I think you missed the point of my post. I'm saying that 'I could care less' isn't necessarily silly.aegix drakan said:That bugs me too. It's pretty silly. I use the proper phrase.
Woops... >_> I DID miss the point of your post....I guess I'm part of that misconception you hate then... (although I don't think people who say "I could care less" are stupid. I just assume they haven't heard the proper phrase, or something)TheRightToArmBears said:Uhm... I think you missed the point of my post. It doesn't necesarily have to do with instilling fear. It has to do with having control. Do you have more or less control if your victim is completely unable to do anything? Ok good.Father Time said:I don't know, if they wanted power and control I'd imagine they wouldn't use date rape drugs that much.solemnwar said:It's something that comes up in papers and such a lot. I can't give you any one thing, sorry. I'm sure there are rapists who do it just for the sex, but honestly, if someone just wants sex, there ARE easy women and prostitutes to go to. The fear a rapist instill in a woman when they force her gives the rapist a sense of power and control, which is what they want.Father Time said:I've heard this a bunch of times but I have a hard time believing that there aren't rapists who do it purely for sex. Where did you hear this idea from?solemnwar said:Might of been said already, but I don't feel like reading 7 pages to see if it has, so here we go:
That rape is about sex. It's not. It's about power, control, fear. Sex is just a "bonus". But everyone fixates on the sex part.
I mean you can't really instill fear in someone who is passed out.
True, but not all the time.Jaffinnegan said:Well we do all Drink Tea'.OrenjiJusu said:The misconception that all americans have less IQ than a used yoghurt and that all british people are incredibly upper class and only drink tea and eat scones.
Damn that sort of does suck you got shafted on that user name. But hey I hear Jim butcher has the same issue with his Dresden Files Series, his character is named Harry and people seem to assume he copied JK Rowling even though the Dresden Files was published first. Go figure.Twilight_guy said:Personally? Imagine what would happen if I changed my avatar back to my old one, one that isn't the twilight zone logo. What do you think most people think of when they hear Twilight_Guy?
Yeah I hate ad hominem involving accusing me of like a book and movie series that I have never even seen and using that as a character insult. Twilight_Zone_Guy is too long for a user name guys.
