Andy Chalk said:I actually had no idea that the Pandaren appeared in the Warcraft 3 expansion, but the fact that the race originated as an April Fool's joke speaks volumes.
And hey, if the fans like it, that's great, but even so I don't think anyone can argue that it's not cartoonishly goofy. Maybe I'm too hung up on the early lore but I think I prefer my Warcraft set in a "serious" fantasy realm.
Their(panda) lore had a hell of a lot of fleshing (as in, they were playable races with detailed back stories and the like) out in the RPG books and in some Vanilla wow quests and references, the lore was there for them more so than most other new races that get added in to the game, before WoW added the lore a vast majority of races had no lore whats so ever, look at Gnomes, Uncorrupted Draenei, Vrykul etc, bar one reference to gnomes in one of the games the lore for one of the first races was added and made up on the spot when WoW was released.
Also, WoW has never been full on "Serious", Dwarf, Goblins, Gnomes ogres etc etc have always added heaped spoonfuls of comic relief and "Cartoonish Goofiness" than the pandas ever will, the goblin starting zone should more than prove this, I didn't realize the serous implications of my actions when i was driving around in a sports car before playing american football with a robot and bombs.
Remember kids, Cartoonish can never EVER be serious, that is why All the Pixar and Anime films have been such colossal flops.
