Ok I made an account largely just to comment on this topic.

World of Warcraft if you're wondering. But you aren't wondering, you don't care about me, I play a mindless mmo full of assholes and trolls.
Yup. If I played one I'd go back to the one I SOMEHOW MANAGED TO QUIT (which is not impossible, contrary to massively popular belief). WoW is a very well made MMOG and the people who don't like it are the people who:

a) Haven't played it, therefore are ignorant and believe that it ruins lives
b) Played it but were shit at it so quit and complained about the "nerds" who beat them at everything they tried to do
c) Played it, were adequate at it to make it to a high stage in the game but quit because they didn't like it or can't afford the fees. I think this is the small minority of people who dislike the game though, even though most people will probably claim to be in this category.
You left out d) the section of us that grew up on the original Warcraft series, as well as the "hardcore gamers" as was considered 15 years ago, who read the accompanying meda which was involved with the game - namely books; you know thats strange paper things. Problem with the old beings such as us, is not that we get our asses handed to us by 12year old brats with too much allowance and very little social skills, who dont even know that there are other warcraft games, or that we may not have the patience or free time to reach level 80 and get all the Epic Gear and then go out PvPing and twiddling our thumbs untill the next installment is released and we can continue our grind-fest up to level 90. No, our problem is that we are so disillustioned by the massacre that new-blood writers have made of the storyline that we simply don't want to play it.

The Stargate MMO quite interested me.
Yes, blasting Goa'ulds sounds like fun!
Alas, this would have been awesome, however, some fucknut in a suit said it wouldn't be economically viable to create a game that big. I hate to admit it, but look at WoW for an online example of massive areas. Oblivion and Morrowind, for offline examples of vast worlds. Then look at Eve Online for the vast space-scapes.

But yet these are the same bunch of wankers who decided to give the go-ahead to Stargate Infinity - one of the biggest cartoon sci-fi spinoff flops ever.

Yes, yes I know all about Stargate Worlds; which granted does look really intersting. However, the original concept was an FPS - which you cannot deny would have been infinatly more interesting that your shit-standard MMORPG. Which honestly looks like another WoW rip-off along the same lines as RF online and Archlord.

I think if done right a One Piece or a Naruto MMO could work very well. Naruto would be able to pick which country your from, special bloodline type deals, blah blah. One Piece could find Devil's Fruit enchance your character, be kind of like a giant PvPvE type deal.
Ok I'm not sure about One Peice, however, if you look hard enough you can find a Naruto one based on the Ragnarok Online engine. Obviously nothing spectacular, but the elements you mentioned are in there.

Pokemon, because I'm cool like that.
This could work. However, three main problems, as well as a host of little ones.
1) This is and always has been my main argument with pokemon games since Gold and Silver. Stop limiting to 4 fucking moves! You bastards and Game Freak and Nintendo have the capability to do it! Stop sticking with "tradition" (which might I add is their SOLE reason for keeping 4moves - theyve admitted it). Give us just 6 at the minimum. 2 for attack, 2 for defence and 2 support type.
2) Take a leaf from Digimon's book. Add more variety. Make it so we can make more things than just Onix and Scyther hold "metal coat" to evolve them into metal forms. Don't go as nuts as what Digimon has with UberPerfectMetalWarGrayRapingEverythingMon. But the general idea still stands.
3) Get more people playing, other than stupid little kids who are freaking obsessed with fucking Pikachu and Jigglypuff, or the hardcore obsessed whom make perfect teams to counter any strategy all of whom have perfect stats because theyve bred them so many fucking times, Ditto looks more like swiss cheese than yoghert.

Also when the hell is the Smash Bros. style pokemon going to come out?!

Also Annoying Turd mentions a Dune MMO, which could, like anything, if done correctly, be freaking fantastic. You've got a million and one different houses and sects to choose from and plenty of basic classes to choose from, with racial specalities like the House Harkonnen Shock Troopers - which are mentioned in the books, who are virtually walking tanks. Simmilarly, Ordos Venom Troopers, the Imperial Sadukar Elites, and many, many more.

I'd love to see a Jak and Daxter MMO, I loved the games as a kid and they would've made for an awesome MMO. I would also love to see dotHack MMO, it's an obvious choice you would think.

Stargate or Fallout MMO, although the setting for a Fallout MMO would be quite ruined just by it being an MMO.
To quote another person here on the Escapist:
"It's just you, the empty, post-apocalyptic Wasteland and 10 million of your fellow survivors."

Come to think of it, a Stargate MMO would have the same problem if you can only be a member of SGC, since the Stargate is supposed to be a secret on Earth...

Hmm sorta, i would think it be like, you can make your own character then you can build your rep and do side quest then you can be in a gang, or mob or just a thug for hire, maybe an assassion, then you can be cops to and track down players and of course earn bribe money and if you work hard you can be a mafia leader, the world would have to be a large world and working with others so you won't die and loose your rep and status would be fun but then i only really gave it a few mins to think about it but it can be fun but then again i been dieing to play a female lead in that game the possibilities would be great if done right.
For Christmas, can someone please buy this bod a big bag of full stops?

Lots of possibilities for exotic locations and adventures.
I'd play as a muggle ...

... with an L98, a Silver Antler and a few full bandoliers ...

... and some explosive skills and kit ...

... and there'd be perforated Death Eater all over the place.

(You can't counter-spell 4g of lead and copper coming at you at 940 m/s from cover 300m away.)

The story in Warcraft is good, yes, but I don't think that the writers of WoW ruined it; things like the "Caverns of Time" (you go back in time and relive events of the RTS series) really add to the game. The only "massacring" of the story is that theoretically people like Illidan and Kel'Thuzad are dead. I'm not sure whether they've allowed players to engage in combat with Arthas himself, but I feel reasonably confident that Blizzard won't let him die, he'll escape and leave a chest or something for loot.

Edit: misread original post, so deleted paragraph relating to misread section.

I'm not holding my breath.
You goin' ta stan' for dat, Thodin? You gonna stan' for dat?

*ahem*

Biblical reference to rivers? It'd be the Jordan or the confluence of the Ifrit and Tigris, which is somewhere between Baghdad and the Strait of Hormuz. o_O

Your idea's interesting, but NPCs that spawn sounds a bit out-of-genre for a zombie massacre game. NPCs outside your explored and visible area that show up seeking refuge and bringing skills and/or supplies would be more like it, and in return for risking your life and using your supplies to go out and escort them into your haven you'd get the wonderful reward of being able to permanently kill zombies. With a world population going on 7bn, sure you'd have a job on to get rid of them all, but I hate meeting the same skeleton warrior with a silver claymore on that bridge while I'm moving stuff and people around. It's standing on nine destroyed skeletal warriors and I'm carrying their swords. It just should not be any more.

On the subject of a MMORTS, it'd have to go awfully slowly to protect the game worlds from being taken over by kids in their parents' basements living on Doritos, chocolate and Red Bull during the school holidays.

* * * * *

Mad thought: MMO Sim City (as long as it's not made by EA and actually a virus masquerading as a game)?

I think an MMO based on Jade Empire could work too. Everybody learning different martial arts moves, and trying to best each other would work wonders for a PvP arena.
Yes, I'm a Bioware fan.
You, sir, have fantastic taste....
Being made by BioWare is the ONLY thing that could tempt me into an MMO. To this point, I have managed to avoid MMOs like a dripping case of ebola...but Old Republic has me so....tempted!!!
(And Jade Empire would be like actually waving the crack pipe under my nose...)

Ok not wanting to start a total flaming war with an obvious WoW-fan, but serously its taken them untill the 2nd addon to try to really coherently tie it in with the other storyline, with the flashback dungeon thing.

Honestly, I kinda miss the days when the trolls were crazy shamans or spear-weilding nutjobs, and everything was more racially orientated, when one species appeared as maybe only 2 classes.

By the way, why the fuck is Arthas like 12 foot tall?

Possibly my dislike of WoW is because, at the time it was released I was an utter fanboy and drooling over the thought of being a Taruen, running around and smacking people with my hooves, and thus had pre-ordered it 3 months before its release date. And then was sorely disappointed at the end result. Being naieve as I was at the time, thinking that the trailers were in some far-fetched way a representation of the real thing. Which turned out to be more like the first Fable, with big feet, hands and heads, and a general feel of cartoony-ness, rather than a serous attempt at a game based on such an epic storyline.

I don't even play WoW any more, so I'm not really a fan of it as a game, I'm a fan of the UoW (that's Universe of Warcraft) though.

Yeah, I originally (before the game came out) wanted to play as a Necromancer, alas the class wasn't included. I think it's a bit silly that all races can be DKs, all but one warriors etc. There should be a balance over the factions, but there should be more classes like the Druid which only one race per faction can be.

By the way, why the fuck is Arthas like 12 foot tall?
My only guess is to make it so you can see him when you eventually fight him.

I guess the difference (for example having Death Knights that aren't Undead) is due to the fact that WoW is set 3 years (I think) after WC3, so a lot has changed in that time.

And now to destroy all credit and credibility i may have gained through my 218 postings on this forum, but I actually enjoyed Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. My main whinge would be that sometimes the difficulty curve gets screwy with monsters and bosses, and my other whinge would be the story lacked a bit, but apart from that, i quite enjoyed it. (That and the fact it was on the DS) *shudder*

star trek universe where you can actually explore planets instead of being in the ship all the time and play as ALL the species shown in all the series.
