If Frankie Boyle is really leaving, I hope they either find a good replacement or just increase the number of guests, as I think if you can hold your own on MtW, its gotta be like gold to your career. I find Russell and Hugh make for a good balance against the harshness of Frankie, too. Imagine what it would be like with 6 people of Frankie's style, it might sound good, but I don't think it would work.
I'll put in a vote in favour of Mitchell's TV stuff with Robert Webb, I'm not a fan of Peep Show, but that's because I believe it relies too heavily on the 'Office' style comedy of embarrasment that is such a British thing.
Hugh Dennis and Andy Parsons have both been doing radio comedy for many years, and yes, the Showaddywaddy gag is an old catchphrase really for him, but it still makes me smile so carry on. Also I think he's an underrated mimic too, his impressions can be spot on.
I actually think Andy Parsons is pretty good, but its not the right show for him. In the same way that Lee Evans for example would die on his bum on MtW.
I'm glad I wasn't the only person thinking Stu Francis might have been the one from Tiswas, but I thought he did well, tho I felt he was more showcasing his act than really joining in with the show, having said that I want to see his act now. 'My dad was a roofer, I still think of him up there, looking down on me'
Gina Yashere I find very week too, its gona be hard to phrase this without sounding like a racist arse, but can we please get some more black comics who dont rely so heavily on black jokes? I'm not saying they shouldn't comment on what it is like, or refer to funny events that come of being black in today's society, but I'd like it to not be the main part of the act for most. (this is in my experience, I'm not claiming it as fact, see how I try to avoid the racism tag?)
I just don't see why we can't have a black Frankie Boyle, or Eddie Izzard or Lee Evans. I will state that I LIKE some of the acts, like Stephen K Amos, and his 'voice gag' is brilliant, and I think Chris Rock could be the new Bill Hicks, if you listen to his stand up instead of judging him on 'Rush Hour'.
As for Bill Hicks, the man was a legend, and I won't have a word said against hi- actually, he could go on some, but I'd lay the blame partly at whoever is marketing his material, he just didn't have the amount of material that justifies like 10 stand up cds and 3 dvds.
Maybe 2 cds and a dvd would get you 95% of his acts.
