Haven't we been in an industry crash for like 20 years?
Not really. There have been more lay offs in the past 5 years, than anything from 20 years ago. According to Woolie, and especially Pat, it's been a slow crash. If big companies like EA, Ubisoft, or whatever ever decided to pull out completely then those big companies would burn, but those who mainly work in the indie and AA sector will be fine on Steam or eShop working through the ashes. So it's not a everyhting is on fire all at once type crash.

I personally don't want a crash to happen, but if it does, I am not going cry for most the Western AAA companies going out of business or the stock people pulling out. Gamers as a whole have so many other options, and those people who only play the one AAA game (Madden, FIFA, COD, Gears, or nothing else) will leave and have no reason to buy a console or game anymore, should this ever happen.

I think the layoffs are more about over hiring during covid and the firings are more of a correction to ensure they don't get hit harder later since the market has fallen a bit. Big publishers have closed before and I think this is more to attempt to not end up going under then of a market crash.

Yet even those who did great job consistently, and were hired before covid even happened, still got fired or laid off to make the numbers look good, or they went overboard and assumed their fucking live-service shooter would be an instant, knock out the park, hit! Yes, I am referring Microsoft (still dead to me) and Sony.

Live service games are the aim of a lot of publishers because if they work then you get a nice regular income, much better then putting in the risk and money of a normal game. Its mistake to go for them but its understandable why publishers really want one. I don't think simply massaging the numbers is responsible for the layoffs since you don't want to just let skilled devs go unless you feel there is something more at risk.

Yet a majority of them failed, leaving a lot of these publishers and developers in a worse fate by trying to please the shareholders. Fuck the gold rush. Focus making single player games, or go at a smaller budget these multiplayer games at least. The "go big, or go home" attitude is fucking everything up everyone who works in the AAA. Notice most of the live service games are either free to play, have much lower budgets when being made, or all the above. Everybody needs to get the fuck of their head and their own way for thinking the live-service way is the only way. It seems Capcom are the only ones who have learned from their mistakes on this. Need I remind you about all of those live-service games that shutdown this year, last year. and a few years ago from either WB, Ubisoft, Square, EA, or all the above.

I have no need for pathetic excuses on them "needing money". How about they stop trying to fuck over either their developers or regular people just wanting to play a game? That way they can get their money through actual goodwill, and stop this stupid "online engagement bullshit". It's why I rarely bother with most online multiplayer games in general.

I also hate the publishers for pulling this shit out at the same time!

That ruling cites the belief of the Entertainment Software Association and other industry lobby groups that "there would be a significant risk that preserved video games would be used for recreational purposes.
Fuck these publishers! Video games are recreational and entertainment activity! Why the fuck are you even in this business in the first place? You already got your money; leave people be. This is exactly why I'll never hate nor look down upon the emulation crowd. They are the true saviors of this industry and video game preservation.

I never said it was a good idea, I just said it was understandable from their perspective. Plus its probably easy to get investor dollars by saying you are sure that this game will be the next big thing and keep you in the black for years and years to come.

I wasn't accusing you of that. As for the understandable...no. Fuck them. They're just throwing people on under the bus, because they keep failing upward. At some point they're gonna be ones to be next. Not all of them obviously, but they're gonna run out of things or people to blame for their failures. This is exactly why I'm glad to stick with Indies a majority of the time.
