Here is an artist I'm quite fond of. He is modern, and you're going to hate him. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAw0-lx1gcU]
You're right: I did hate it. That was awful, and I can't take anyone seriously who calls that pleasant to listen to. Maybe you're fond of the artistic statement, but that was NOT pleasant.
Agree with you completely but...
Artistic Statement? did you not hear the last 10 seconds, no artistic qualities or any form of music came out of that, it was pure static.....

screaming is not an artistic statement, it's a goddamn human emotion, its called RRAAAGGGEEE

OT: I really do like the older stuff and also some new rock that sounds similar to the old 80's bands (Wolfmother springs to mind) but you have to dig deep to find some of it

Of course modern music sucks ass. It's the reason I still pirate albums. Unless there is a musican the slightest bit worth a damn, I will buy their albums. It's mass produced music like Hannah Montana and Jonas brothers that's fucking over music. That and lady GaGa.

By the way miss GaGa, you can't dress in anything fashionable worth a shit. Stop acting like a fucking diva.

People still listen to the radio?

Seriously I think your first problem is trying to change popular music. How about you just stop listening to popular music if you don't like it, and find other bands you do like. You realize there are thousands upon thousands of bands you'll never hear of via the media that are actually quite awesome absolutely 1000% better than any over commercialized trash in the mainstream media.

Search and find my friend. Search and find.... may I suggest www.last.fm?

I've been thinking about this recently. Almost all of the songs you hear anymore... are just generic. And I don't just mean musically. Everyone knows that pop music is generic anyway, but I'm talking about the lyrics: there's nothing specific anymore. What happened to all the story songs like Tangled Up In Blue, The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia, Harper Valley PTA... songs that refer to specific events and tell specific stories. The songs these days are just variations on "I love you" and "Why did we break up?" etc.

The lack of content and banality almost drives you insane.
Ever heard of The Script? pretty new band, great sound, amazing singer, 90% of their songs tell a story, hence the name: "The Script" although most of the songs are about relationships, like you said before

There are more good bands than ever out there right now, they're just not played on the radio.

Okay, I know we're living in messed up times right now, but what's up with music? Have you noticed how we have moved away from some genres only to replace them with dance, rap, pop, or any mix of them? What happened to good music? Modern music doesn't have that "feel" when I listen to it. The moment any Lady Gaga or Jonas brothers or any form of rap comes onto the radio, I immediately switch to another station. Older music, like Led Zepplin, or even some '90s music comes on, I turn up the volume. What happened?
Jeez, there's TONNES of good music out there, just pull your finger out and have a look. Get on Last.fm, I've found quite a few new artists on there that I dig.

i find my local radio stations play the same 20 sounds every hour and its rather annoying. The only time its switched up really is during their call in request times.

Trance music seems to stay awesome, no matter the age of the song, when made right.

I love trance because its mostly about feeling, rather than the words.

DJ Toxic has a few great ones:

DJ Toxic - Rising Sun - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwF8nU5Zpa0&fmt=18
DJ Toxic - Secret Melody - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF0a5aoEGsw (There are better mixes, too, but I lost the link)

Also, if you NEED a story, and don't care about nationality, the Japanese Vocaloid songs are surprisingly good:

Toraboruta - Len and Rin - A boy, the Universe - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8x9CFX5fP1U&fmt=18
164 - Hatsune Miku - Shining Ray - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ft23llACKk4
Chu-ji - Hatsune Miku - Plug Out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p81MZO3d6rI&fmt=18

yeah and what the fuck is up with white kids now a days? why do all kids want to be black?
Hello and welcome to 5 years ago.

No but seriously, these days white kids aren't trying to black anymore. Gangstarap's peak is over in the mainstream culture. These days electronic music is much more popular. I'd say indie-music is too, but that doesn't seem to be an radio as much.

Anyway about noise .. I can't really say that noise is music. Perhaps it should be classified as another auditory artform, right next to music. It's not because it's also something you hear that it therefor has to be music. The world changes, new artforms are created and noise might be one of it. That being said, I probably don't know enough about music, let alone experimental music, to be able to make such a statement :p

Sorta racist statement there wouldn't you say? Got a problem with black people who try to 'act white' too? And last time I checked rock and roll was black music before the white kids got into it. In fact I think that was a big problem people had with rock and roll (aside from Evis's hips).

I hate most modern music, but there are a few bands that I still like that can keep music original.

Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, ummm.....I forget. Check those out though.

First of all, not sure what a "moddo" is. Secondly, that's the silliest thing I've ever heard. I mean, did you even think about what you just said? Do you know how stupid it sounds?

I'm half Mexican. Does that mean I should start acting more Mexican? But only half?

Not wishing to sound rude but I think you must just be getting old, my parents always go on about this exact same thing.

What it is, is there are only three different kinds of new music that you have the option to listen to: commercial, indie, and shit-and-ham-on-wheat.
Commercial sucks because its untalented pretty people who get talented ugly people to write shallow songs for them. They keep doing this until they lose sight of the fact that they are on the fucking gravy train, and when they look around and realise that they just have to gyrate on a megastage while lipsynching it makes them ask the question "why am I making so much goddamned money?" Somehow, they come to the absolutely wrong conclusion that it is because they are talented. They then try to do anything by themselves and instantly ruin their career.
Indie sucks because it is made up of, followed by, and sold to dicks who are "deep" because they don't wear abercrombie or something. The music is better than commercial, but it instantly puts you off as soon as you realise that only dicks listen to it. Dicks with cheesy beards and glasses they probably don't even need. And also, for some reason, it always ends up on car commercials, creating a kind of chicken or egg situation.
SHW is crap because . . . well . . . its kinda in the title. This stuff is just bad. Its the music that you hear every now and then and wonder if anybody acutally listens to it. Apparently, someone does.

Oh, and They are possibly more insane than the Japanese when it comes to music videos. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGUFfa2iDHg]
That hammer is singing. I am afraid.

Also that is just standard Electro-Pop. It's GOOD electro-pop, but it's still electro-pop type stuff. I can't recall the genre's name. But Americans have been doing it for a while too.

Pfft, you think thats weird? watch the uncensored version of Obscure by Dir en grey, thats gone in the head
