They came up with a new story, made unique revisions to their renowned multiplayer, had co-op missions that just from what I've seen moved beyond standard shoot-fests, etc. There are definitely plenty of games in this genre milking the same old stuff over and over, but I'm not ready to put MW2 in there just yet. Maybe something like Crysis though; all that does is take Battlefield 2, FarCry, and every random shooter feature made in the last few years and bundle it together into something that didn't really work.

I always love listening to the people who got angry about the dedicated server drop, because so many of these people apparently missed reading one of the major reasons why they were dropped: overhead. They were dropped because in the current economy, they were going to be too costly to keep running. Yes, it sucks, but if the company has a choice between keeping them and bankrupting or not, and not, then more power to them.

I love talking to the boycotters and then derailing their entire arguement by asking them, "So wait, you're angry because the company refuses to bankrupt itself for your convenience?"

And watch their heads explode.
I would like to meet these boycotters you said this to because I've got a feeling they don't exist or are very very stupid.

Most dedicated servers you will find are not hosted by the developers. They are in fact hosted by the players themselves.

Call me naive, but what is all this about? Is there some reason we can't acknowledge an occurrence without clapping our hands in time to the music and going HAHA LOOK I KNEW IT.
Why rely on the crowd to express yourselves, kiddies? Surely you realize nobody can hear you over the other sixteen thousand screaming parakeets. Why can't you stand somewhere without building a great big billboard over your head and throwing pamphlets at the passerby?
Let it go, children.

But how has any of those "innovations" not been done before?

I would respect your argument, but your name dampens it's impact. And, as an added touch of irony, I'll state that insulting people doesn't get you very far anywhere, so calling every Escapist a child is certain to get you... Nowhere.

I liked the WWII CoDs, more so the first one, that was real true call of duty.
Its not even call of duty anymore, its fucking modern warfare, i mean what the fuck sellouts.

Im not a big fan of current war games, I think its to early to make these iraq, afganisthan games.
In all fairness, there's only so much you can do with the World Wars before it gets repetitive.
We all know how the World Wars ended, the Germans and their bitches lost. But with the modern warfare games at least it's fresh and differant. There's so many variations of WW1/2 games out there, it's getting stale in my opinion.

When the contards are playing "Modern FPS #864: This Time With A New Gun" they can look back on this and see why.
I know you're new here but platform bashing is not appreciated by most escapists. Using words like 'contard' makes you look like a troll.
To be clear, I'm not referring to every console gamer, just those that purchased Modern Warfare 2.
That doesn't make it any better.

I don't see your point, assuming you have one.

I believe all of two missions are set in Unspecifiedistan, the first and last.

The rest is set in Russia, Brazil and the U.S.

And they didn't "sell out", they wanted to depart from the saturated and stale WWII genre.
No they actually specifiy Afghanistan(sp?)!
It's okay I was pretty shocked myself.

I respectfully point you to a game called Just Cause; an open-world GTA-style game that made a hundred innovations in transportation through mechanics like a grappling hook and a parachute. Just seeing those in action I knew they could be taken somewhere. But overall the game was horrible due to a lack of polish and the fact that the most basic elements; taking an assault rifle and shooting up a base; did not feel natural at all.

There are much more subtle innovations in a game you never know about. That intern who says "Hey, I came up with a more effective animation transition system so if there's empty space between the keyframes it'll interpolate and look more smooth. Furthermore, we can still allow user input while it's doing it." actually makes the game more fun. But can you put that stuff on the back of a game box? No.
Some game, yes, follow a lot of innovations that were made a long time ago, but just do them much better. Super Mario 64 wasn't the VERY first 3D platformer, but the previous one, (Geograph Seal by my research) got no recognition because it didn't do anything very well.

Sometimes just changing a lot of numbers, and little game rule changes that are too out-there for a 1.7 update, can completely fix a game.

Final evidence that people do love to be violated and ripped off.

Congratulations guys. You deserve what you're getting. Stay tuned.
Glad to see someone bring up the reason I won't be purchasing the brand new copy anytime soon. Wonder how many will be bitching when the prices go up?

Boycotts are not meant to hurt them financially.

It is to make them understand a problem people have with the game.

1-Dimensional thinking, like actually having a financial impact, is what truly causes a boycott to fail.

Alright, now ask yourself how much of that money came from PC gamers.
Ask yourself why there were hacks, mods, and rampant piracy for both the PC and the Xbox 360 within two days of launch.
Find at least three PC gamers who honestly thought this game was worth it.

Go ahead, I'll be waiting.
myself, my friend, and most probably one of my other friends who are planning to buy the game once exams are over.

so yeah. that pretty much sums it up.
That's understandable, but that still leaves the two biggest questions up in the air.

The enemy should be in no doubt that we are his nemesis and that we are bringing about his rightful destruction. There are many regional commanders who have stains on their souls and they are stoking the fires of hell for Infinity Ward. He and his forces will be destroyed by this coalition for what they have done. As they die they will know their deeds have brought them to this place. Show them no pity.

I love it when console gamers who don't know the first fucking thing about dedicated servers shoot their mouths off and reveal how ignorant they are.

Guess what, Activision/IW don't pay a cent for dedicated servers. PC gamers pay for their own dedicated servers. In fact it costs Activision/IW more to not have dedicated servers because they have to pay for setting up the matchmaking.

Dumbass.
