As much as it's impressive I'd like to point out something that has just been stated.

All of that money is in the hands of Bobby Kotick.

Seriously....

I wish for Bad Company 2 to put up a fighting chance.
Yeah, those were my exact thoughts. Well done everyone, there goes new and creative ideas for the next decade

Not very surprising, the game was hyped up to the point where all most everybody connected to gaming had heard of it and the game lived up close to that hype.

If the game was no where near as good as promised then I would be upset, but I belived that the game was fun and enjoyable and I think it was worth 60 bucks.

Well, this actually just makes me appreciate EA more.

Sure they dropped Pandemic, but they still have DICE, who still make FPS's that are fun as hell.

Even Battlefield 1943 from last year, even as WW2 games are rightfully dying.

But sadly the 1 Billion dollar mark of MW2 makes me realize even more that...

There will never be a Battlefield 2143...

I'm surprised it's taken this long to reach $1billion (I take it this is US billion as in one thousand million) at $60 a pop, more outside the US. Not very impressive against movies and albums that push that figure at $10 or less.

Sad day when a reskinned, four-hour shooter with a poorly told story full of unexplained plot holes is the fastest selling game of all time.
Mass acceptance is a sign of mediocrity, never forget that the most succesful movie ever is Titanic, yet no one ever mentions it in their top ten movies ever. Middle of the road has the biggest audience...

Good. Maybe now Kotick will stop whining about 4 million people [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/97157-Modern-Warfare-2-Was-2009s-Most-Pirated-Game] pirating the game as it did nothing to dissuade sales in any way.

Well just proves how cinema is by no means loosing any steam. Game costs about £40-50 and cinema costs about 7.50 thats a major difference. (just a point nothing more)
But maybe they are also adding up all the people who payed more to see it in 3D and also you had to pay for the glasses too.

OT, not surprised.

This is very good news for our beloved medium. It means that there are enough gamers out there that bought MW2 to bring in the hefty sum and now gaming can be seen as a legitamite buisness due to all of this attention. I really don't see why everyone is suddenly so angry about this news and is treating it sarcastically. This just proves that games based on modern warfare are really popular and now several other game companies will crank out games to try and take a slice of the action (which some studios are already doing). And besides, MW2 is a pretty excellent game. Be happy for once for great success in the video game medium people!

Good for them. Now they can finally finish filling that Olympic swimming pool. It won't be very comfortable (or hygienic!) to swim in, but it will definitely get them laid.

Interesting thing: I was at a video game store today and saw Modern Warfare 2 for the PC at 45?... while Modern Warfare 1 was still at 49?. Heh, just found it random enough to share.
