Wow a few days late on the news there.
Graphics look a bit odd compared to 4. Though I like the fact that it resembles an action movie from yesteryear.

Wanna bet that they use the Rio slums, the plane yunkyard and the castle for mp maps? ;)
I really liked the "military scenes" with the camouflage guys but Im not too sure how all these shielded policemen and the guy with the mohawk fit into that game-these scenes look more like Army of Two, Mercenaries2 etc. than Modern Warfare to me.
See I heard somewhere that Soap, the main player character will not be playable, but will be a main character, like Gaz, Price, and Griggs. I'm assuming the mohawk dude is Soap. Just a theory though.

Here's hoping that the Rio Favela is non-linear, with multiple paths through its map.
That most likely won't happen considering there has never been a nonlinear level in any CoD game. Would be cool though.

This will suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. An the reason while it will suck is 'cause your playing the Goddamn Marine Corpse, of whom I've gotten fucking sick. Dammit there's a level in fucking Afganistan why coulden't it be a level where you atleast play Russian Spetnaz or something, I'd love to play that level.

Can't wait. If we could just get rid of Activision we could have games like this every year or so instead of every two.
Don't you mean Treyarch? They're the ones responsible for Call of Duty 5 Call of Duty 3 with better graphics and a zombie mini game.

You don't play as soap, this time around he's your commanding officer, so maybe he'll have a voice this time, and no he isn't the guy with the mohawk, and for most of the people worried about the snowmobile section from the article I read it's a small part of the escape scene from the first mission.

It's strange it's been weeks and yet no ones mentioned the Modern Warfare 2 article from game informer yet, not in the news room or the game discussion forum.

Well I never said you play as him. In fact, I said he wasn't a player character. I didn't get to read that article though. My subscription ran out ages ago.

Well, I guess I differ from a lot of these folks in that I really enjoyed CoD4 (in all its aspects) and I thought the trailer looked pretty much like every other game trailer, with 1 second clips of in-game footage mixed with cutscene footage, but hey, it was footage of what I wanted to see. Explosions, helicopters, and army men.

The trailer looked very cutscene heavy, but considering how infinity ward likes to do interactive cutscenes this may be a good thing.

This game has been touted as having non-linear levels. Basically you go from point A to point B possibly destroying a miscellaneous baracks/weapons factory/armory/doom fortress along the way, killing whoever you feel like while you do it.

That said, at this stage it just looks like you really only have two options:
1. Try and be stealthy, which won't really work due to the huge number of enemies that are a staple of the CoD series.
2. Shoot the place up.

That "trailer" wasn't all that useful IMHO. And this is not because I'm not into the game, but rather because it didn't showcase a lot, gameplay-wise. As exciting as those cutscenes looked, which holds the promise of a single player experience that shouldn't be inferior to the first, if it's not painfully short again, I'd love to see at least a small part of a mission playthrough. Then again, I might be think too old-school, or even biased because I found the idea of the teaser for a teaser that was published a while ago plain stupid.

If that's what people call nonlinear than any FPS is nonlinear. Nonlinear is multiple paths with different setpieces depending on the path you take.

It doesn't look incredibly great to me.
But, I had the same feelings about CoD4 until I actually played it so I still have faith in this.

I mean that you won't be forced to take a specific path, as with all previous CoD games.
From what I have read, MW 2 will have Hitman style sprawling maps which allow you to choose the specific route you take to the objectives.
Of course, I don't want to confuse level linearity with plot linearity, because MW 2 will have a linear plot.

On a side note:
"Nonlinear is multiple paths with different setpieces depending on the path you take"
In CoD WaW there are multiple times when you are forced to choose between the left and right paths, each with their own setpieces.
So, by your definition, CoD WaW is nonlinear...
