Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Feels Longer Than MW2, Says Dev

The newest game in the Call of Duty series wants to wow you with its story.

Glen Schofield, one of the founders of Modern Warfare 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-Modern-Warfare-Xbox-360/dp/B00503E8S2/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1315997574&sr=1-4] co-developer Sledgehammer Games, says that while the exact length depends on the player, the single player campaign for MW3 feels longer than the one created for MW2. That's no bad thing either: Modern Warfare 2 was widely criticized for the short length of its single player portion.

Schofield said that Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward had finished the single player campaign months ago, and were now polishing it to a mirror shine, adding that one of the goals with Modern Warfare 3 was for players to come away praising the story as well as the spectacle. He also shared one of his favorite parts of the single player campaign, a quite exciting sounding moment in Berlin where a building is collapsing around the player in real time, and then the player has to enter the downed structure while it's still creaking and groaning.

As someone who values stories pretty highly, I'm hoping that Schofield and the rest of the Modern Warfare 3 team make good on their promise of a memorable single player game. Of course, from a sales point of view, it probably won't really matter all that much as long as the multiplayer is good.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 comes out for PC, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 on November 8th.

Uh oh. MW3 dev says the campaign feels longer than MW2. Not is longer than MW2. Bad choice of words or telling slip? Only time will tell I suppose.

Ahahahahahahahaha!

Anyway, that's a terrible choice of words. If it ISN'T longer, then simply FEELING longer means its poorly paced, or boring.

First thought as I saw the article title as well. Let's hope it's just a bad choice of words, they should have enough brains to try and avoid the same length again, considering they're the running joke of the industry for MW2's campaign length.

*Feels* longer doesn't mean it is longer. I guess they're trying not to blatantly lie to their audience. If it was longer they'd say it's longer. It's that simple. Why do they even care? As much as I think MW2 wasn't worth $60, I have to admit I enjoyed the SP campaign. Sure it was short, but it was worth a second playthrough. IW knows how to make an interesting single player. I think jumping on the CoD hate bandwagon makes no sense. IW only made one somewhat bad game (MW2). It was very unbalanced and it didn't have dedicated servers on PC. But it's Treyarch that keeps making shitty CoD games. They should stick to making Spiderman. At least they're good at that.

lucky, we have to pay like 120 for brand new copies (if not more then that)
on topic; it should hopefully be longer with all the cut scenes and fun in a juggernaut suit
although I dont think so .. I have my doubts

I can live with that. Waiting for reviews. After the BF3 fiasco I'm just going to wait a month or two before I choose between the two. I understand about "feeling" longer. Some games like Touhou I've logged several dozen hours on while the campaign only takes like 20-40 minutes. The campaign itself is also excruciatingly slow feeling...but that's due to stress and what not. I guess I'm pretty resigned to another 5 hour campaign like in MW2....I did log about 200 hours on the online multiplayer so oh well? (This number btw pales in comparison to the 400 hours I spent on COD4) Also...I don't really think the COD 4 campaign was much longer than MW2's if that's really a valid point. It took me like 8 hours the first run through but now I can hammer it out in about 4-5.

That was pretty much my first thought when I saw the title and also pretty much what I was coming into the thread to say... Bloody ninja.

Nice, maybe I'll pick it up second hand in a year's time for a tenner.

Custom PC had a hands on with it a little while ago, they weren't overly enthusiastic. More specifically, they were quite impressed with the spectacle and production values, but when the Activision rep told them that a 'cool' selling point was that they could pick up guns from dead enemies for more ammo, they knew there was nothing new to see.

I thought that too, has he just made a press release to say the single player is interminable?

Too true. The Spec Ops mode added greatly to the play-ability of 2 though, but they've mucked about with Spec Ops as well. From what I can gather it's been crossbred with a bog standard horde mode, which in my eyes replaces the satisfaction of completing clear cut and defined objectives with the rather thankless task of 'just stay alive, you muppet'.

EDIT -

That'd be a brutal first for PR stunts wouldn't it? "Well our new game isn't any longer than our last one, but don't worry folks, we've toned down the action so it drags like hell!" Maybe they've just tweaked the storyline to be better paced. MW1, for example, didn't get anywhere near as much flak for it's campaign (mainly because of the plot) but I replayed it not so long ago and was staggered by how quickly I burned through it.

Wait Wait Wait Hold the phone...there was a single player campaign and they had stories.

OT:The story could be written by JRR Tolkien or Ayn Rand and it would make a fat lot of good, cos the average player just goes straight to the Multi-player. However If it remotely better than "Guys fight bad guys, stop evil man, Oscar Mike" Then its a Plus.

I'd like to contest Ayn Rand's talent for writing but on a more related point I find it really horrific that a lot of my friends just went straight to mp instead of playing sp first...That really just bothered me so much. It just shows how little COD wants to be a SP game. Why don't they cut the act and just put out a 60 dollar counter strike.

YAYY!!!! I liked what little of MW2's story there was, even if it was the Russians AGAIN, and MW3 looks better.

They feel longer is that really a good thing to say?.A bus journey can feel longer than 15 minutes but that is due to being bored out of my mind and having to sit next to someone who smells like rotted cabbage.

Feeling longer is not a good thing i would rather know if it feels any good.

Well he can't say it is longer, because there's always going to be someone that comes along and blitzes it in a 4 hour sitting and then whines to some news site, saying "MW3 isn't longer!! They told us it would be!!". The dev is probably just choosing his words carefully.
