Modern Warfare 3 - First Thoughts

So, against all better judgement, I went and got Modern Warfare 3 today. I figure it really will be the last time Activision can screw people out of their money. And besides, it would be unfair of me to bash something without playing it, particularly since I'm known to really, really like Battlefield 3. That and maybe the input of other devs stemmed the stupidity of IW and Kotick.

So here is a collection of my thoughts during my first 2.5 hours of play.

Campaign - On Veteran Naturally

- Ok, CGI that would give Michael Bay a woody. And a decimated New York? Are you sure Michael Bay wasn't on the dev team?

- Why do the graphics look they actually regressed from Black OPs and MW2?

- Why do the guns all sound tinny and hollow?

- Why the hell do I move so slow? Am I the obese Delta force member?

- Well, the gunplay is still fun. Fuck you Russians!

- Hey, a SPAS-12! Fun time.

- Aww....not as fun as in MW2.

- *Uses new XM25 GL* Damn! This is fun! Fuck yo' cover.

- *Uses Predator Drone* Still fun....though not quite as satisfying for some reason.

- *Sub Mission* Oooooohh....atmospheric. And fun.

- *Completes Sub Mission* AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!

Opinion So Far
Campaign looks like it'll be more fun than MW2 or Black OPs, nonsensical as it is. Though unfortunately no rat-stabbing yet. *sadface*

Multiplayer - I played Merc Kill Confirmed and some Domination

- Why the hell am I still moving so slow?

- YAY! the starter class has my favorite weapon, the G36C in it!

- Boo! I can't use the G36C in my own class until level 42!

- Hmm...this Kill Confirmed gametype isn't too bad. Stops campers for sure.

- *Runs in Bouncing Betty mine* Fuck you! Yeah, like this isn't going to the most annoying thing ever.......

- *Runs into Juggernaut KSR* You're a close second asshat.

- *Realizes Support KSRs don't reset after death* Whose fucking brilliant idea was this?! I can see it now; every single fucking team is just going to run Support, since it gives you everything you need!

- *Several games of MP later* Eh.....its fun......but this might not last even as long as Black OPS....not bots either.

Opinion So Far[/b]
Fun......but why this is going to get GOTY over BF3 is beyond me.

Played it for about 3 hours last night and it just feels so MW2.5 to me. It's as fun to play as ever but it I've hardly been taken by surprise by it.

It definitely doesn't deserve GOTY.

My first thoughts was. Its sold 6 million in day one, That to me means there are up to 6million ex/girlfriends that are on the market.

I totally wish it were that easy... I couldn't get a girl friend and I don't even play Call of Duty

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE how your pointstreaks don't reset upon death, I don't know what the mindset is behind that.

note: I've only used the support streak setup, but I'm assming it's the same across the streak setups

EDIT: didn't finish reading the OP, I'm an idiot, disregard my statement :p

No.

It resets for Assualt and Specialist. But Support still has the nicest stuff.

Your right about the support having then nicest stuff. Today I got about 1000 points with a UAV drone, from tagging and then getting assists. The UAV drone gets you the points of a chopper gunner and you only have to get 10 kills in one match!

What are these new streak systems like, and how many opportunities will they give overs to fuck me over with?

Unbolded and disunderlined - I like it! :D

Actually, neither game is going to get GOTY as neither has been nominated.
While I thoroughly enjoy BF3 it doesn't deserve GOTY, either, for being too damn modern military shooter grey.

MW3 can kiss my arse though for it's boring-as-shit, MW2-clone online and repetitive, lackluster singleplayer. Although I can complement it on being an interactive blockbuster as it can be exciting, purely because the over-scripting takes you for a ride - aside from that it's bland and too serial & the story's shit still.

Yes, I've witnessed enough of it to make that judgement, first hand and on the web. If you disagree, you are an actual moron and I could put money on it your game experiences are little more than CoD. Sure, you can like it and enjoy it but you cannot say it is a "new" CoD, nor can you say it is a good game... you can like it but it is not a good game.

Bring on the Saints & Scrolls!

For each of your Custom Classes, you may pick the Assault, Support or the Specialist Point Rewards. (Specialist Unlocks at Level 21) When you pick a set, you then pick 3 Rewards from that set and those are your Rewards for that class.

Assault contains the more "offense" orientated rewards, with things like the Predator Missile, Attack Choppers, Precision Airstrikes and AC-130s. When you die, your progress towards rewards resets.

Specialist is basically the "Lone Wolf" rewards. At 3, 5 and 7 kills, you can set it so that you add another perk to what you already have. For example, your class starts with Scavenger, Quick Draw and Stalker. Then at 3 kills you can add Sleight of Hand, 5 Blast Shield and 7 Sitrep etc etc., so that you can have up to 6 Perks total. It resets when you die.

Support contains the "defensive" rewards with things like UAVs, Counter-UAV, SAM Turrets, Emergency Airdrop, Stealth Bomber and the ability to equip your team with Flak Jackets or yourself with Juggernaut Armor, etc. It does not reset between deaths.

It'll tide me over 'til Skyrim comes out i suppose, and if it doesn't i'll just go back to Battlefield...

Support setup FTW though, finally my 3 kills then die repeat ad nauseum stratagem has meaning!

Does anyone else think MW3 is kinda the "Director's Cut" edition of all the CoDs ever? So much stuff is reused (the interface is a direct copypaste from MW2) but tweaked ever so slightly. It's like the same but different at the same time...

It's what MW2 should have been, in terms of multi player.

Haven't played the single player yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Co Op, I'm a little sceptical because MW2's sucked big time.

Overall good so far.

Hmm, I guess it's more a see it to experience it type of thing. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
Plus, I like the idea of keeping killstreaks even though I die. Although, probably everyone will be using it so... I'll reserve judgement for until I get it.

I might be the only person in the world who cares so much about this that I'd consider that a complete game breaker. Bad sound = no immersion whatsoever.

Multiplayer feels nice, only a couple "Magic Bullet" scenarios

LAG only came in when I tried ground war. I LOVE the Hex camoflauge.

Bullets and bullet sounds feel effective.

It's a new CoD, and it's a good game. In my opinion anyway.
