It's deffinitely real and one of the finest moments in aviation and science history. Anyone who believes it's fake is either stupid or has not seen the evidence proving it happened.

Hooray we spent millions to conquer a barren rock, go humanity.
And yet, this very project birthed inventions that went on to change the world. Not only that, it still represents the most improbable feat of engineering to date, especially when you consider the calculations were done by hand with the assistance of slide rules and my computer right now has more power than all the computing devices in use by NASA at the time combined.
Yet the end result was still, well a big rock, to be honest all the planets near us our just uninhabitable wastelands, I don't see why were so keen to go find them, I'd rather we put our resources towards helpful scientific areas then towards a useless pursuit of travelling long distances to no purpose other then to prove we can.
Space exploration is about expanding our knowledge of the universe. What better way than to experience it first hand? Humans can do much more than any robots or rovers and more efficiently, and they can think on their feet and act opportunistically.
But the only thing to experience is big expanses of nothingness, there's nothing out there, well nothing we'll be able to find for thousands of years and by that point we'll probably have nuked each other to death, I'd rather we put the money into issues closer to home, I'd we found a cure for cancer then a mission to Mars.

My uncle will not believe it until he sees some hard evidence in front of his face, blah, blah , blah, my close-mindedness, blah blah, blah

The only way we can find out if any endeavor has any use is to accomplish it. Remember, there was a time when people thought that having more computing power then what we had in the 70's would be useless for any commercial user.

Probing the moon, mars, and comets have revealed more and more about how our universe ticks. Looking at space rocks have lead to many modern scientific theories. Any discoveries we make in space will inevitably affect all of mankind back here on earth.

Well that, and it would help to be ready to fight an interstellar war when the alien slavers come. XD

How much more proof do the conspiracy theorist idiots need? The moon landing was in many ways the culmination of American achievement (although personally my money's on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.) The number of people who believe the hoax theory is a surefire sign of just how far intellectual achievement has fallen in this increasingly homogenized and sterilized country. And Buzz Aldrin could still kick those conspiracy theorists' asses even now, and he's nearly eighty.

i mean that on most recent shuttle missions a peice of insulating foam has come off that may or may not of damaged the current shuttle, almost destroyed the previous suttle, and it thought to of destroyed Challenger 2

Most of the space shuttles in use now are quite old, that's probably why they are falling apart.

The infamous SCAMola said:
400.000 men and women at the NASA base in Houston, Texas worked incessantly so that such an incredible feat could be possible, and yet, even today, it is said that 6% of Americans, and 1 out of 4 Britons interviewed believe it was all a hoax. Cue annoyed grunt.

So, in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the moon landing, I ask the great people of Escapia this:

The Moon Landing: Hoax or Real thing?

And also, with interest in space travel at an all time low, when do you think we will finally reach other planets, like Mars?
SCAMOLA! What's up, man? I have one question for you. If the moon landing was a hoax, then why would the gov't create NASA to sit on their asses for 40 years?

Got to post this: http://xkcd.com/202/

Of course I think that the moon landings took place. The idea of it being filmed in a studio is fucking retarded.

You want to know something interesting? There are those that believe the moon does not exist. [http://www.revisionism.nl/Moon/The-Mad-Revisionist.htm]

I've covered this in depth before.

not going to do it again

it really happened, and no real evidence has ever come to light that hasn't been immediately shot down by people way smarter then the person who brought forth the "evidence"

anyone who thinks it was a hoax is a moron

I honestly don't believe that's legitimate. It's too hilarious to be real

You can thank the moon landing for all those gang members putting down their nunchunks and stop beating people up, to start watching Star Trek and the break out SciFi hit Star Wars.

Its true that Star Trek had been gathering strength until that point but the paradigm shift in from Kung Fu movies to SciFi was thanks to the moon landings.

I'm so escited, I used paradigm shift in a sentence and it was fully justified.

It's gotta be a joke... but then again, there are people who supposedly believe that Bush is a lizard person whose race is bent on controlling the humans and was doing so since the dawn of time. I'm not even making that up.

Heheh.
you've got a point there, but

"You can see it. But think about it ? without the help of so-called "experts", how do you really know what you?re looking at? It could be a hologram, projected from various government installations throughout the world. It could be a large, crudely painted balloon, held in place by helium and propelled by tiny sails and rudders (which is why it moves across the sky so slowly). Or, most likely, it could have been different things at different times and different places, depending on the technology available to the conspirators and the culture and beliefs of the population being deceived."

I'm trying to think of what this person is like that believes that.

People who think it was a hoax are morons. America going to the moon is the first step to Galactic Colonization. It is humanities true destiny. We shall spread out seed across the stars.

I'm glad humanity won't have to pay the price for your lack of vision. If humanity's got the balls, we can create a future that lies far beyond our solar system. Constant advancement of our understanding and mastery of the phsyical reality in which we exist will allow humanity to spread across the galaxy. There's more out there than you can imagine, and humanity's crowning achievement will be the development of technology which can terraform other worlds.
