ahh. no, that's not what I meant. you should be at least as responsible as the life you have set up requires you to be. if you avoid other commitments, marriage, kids, etc, then it is your business because it is your life.berethond said:Oh. You meant that kind of responsibility.magnuslion said:of course you don't. responsibility would mean taking responsibility for your own actions and having to stop whining about all the "horrible" and "tragic" things that have happened to you.berethond said:Me, I'm not such a big fan of 'responsibility' and 'order'.magnuslion said:my code is close to bushido, or the Legion Codex. a warriors code of responsibility and order.
We don't get along very well.
I meant the being-responsible-for-things kind.
You know, like your momma always says "You need to be more responsible."

What's with all the warrior's codes? Can't we have a system of morality (note, I'm talking about morality, not legislation) that doesn't involve impersonal bureaucratic rules and unquestioning obedience to a lord or vassal? My ideal form of morality would allow me to think for myself instead of painting by numbers through a codified set of rules.
A person must have a reason for doing what's right. A reason other than, "I do what the books says."
My two cents.
((rolls eyes)) ahh i see. you are an intelligent sophisticate that cant grasp a warriors mentality. which begs me the question: "what the fuck are you doing on a gaming site?"ThrobbingEgo said:We have no need for bushido.magnuslion said:my code is close to bushido, or the Legion Codex. a warriors code of responsibility and order.

so what you are saying, in effect, is that you really believe that your own set of Ideas is original?dontworryaboutit said:"You only find yourself when you disobey. Nah, Guillermo del Toro fan in general. And that quote about disobedience was really in reference to the resistance of fascism displayed in Pan's Labyrinth. In the end, it's all about thinking for yourself.ThrobbingEgo said:Hellboy fan?dontworryaboutit said:"You only find yourself when you disobey. Disobedience is the beginning of responsibility."

Nah, I'm not talking about disobedience. More like, understanding what's right for reasons that aren't just arbitrary. Where you were born, who your leader happens to be, what your parents taught you, that's arbitrary. What you figure out, that's yours. Why let someone else make decisions for you when you're perfectly capable (I hope) of making good decisions yourself?
If you're a warrior, why the fuck are you on a gaming site? I think the Escapist favors people who can think, rather than the refus that bash eachothers brains out with sticks.magnuslion said:((rolls eyes)) ahh i see. you are an intelligent sophisticate that cant grasp a warriors mentality. which begs me the question: "what the fuck are you doing on a gaming site?"ThrobbingEgo said:We have no need for bushido.magnuslion said:my code is close to bushido, or the Legion Codex. a warriors code of responsibility and order.

if you bothered to actually read any of the aforementioned texts instead of slinging your ego around, you would have noticed the common thread: That the strong, physically, mentally, and socially, have an OBLIGATION to the weak. I was given my strength for a reason, whether by God or Fate.
This, I agree with this 100 percent. And I would never ever cheat on my significant other. If my significant other cheats on me, I will cut off his penis. The Maddest March Hare said:I draw the line at the abuse of animals or people. So you're okay with liars, theft, embezzling politicians, pyro-necro-pedophilia, and talking in the theater?Catchphrase said:I was quite aware of that, good sir; My post was merely sarcastic and comedic as if to reflect the abscense of morals completely, for me.
Yeah, I hate it when people talk in the theater. But yes, I'm okay with all of those, except that last one.
It is the duty of every warrior to question the actions of their lords. once again, you haven't actually read the book, you just criticize what you think is true. you have set up an illusion based on the reality you desire, which makes anyone bigger and stronger than you the bad guy.ThrobbingEgo said:If you're a warrior, why the fuck are you on a gaming site? Warriors are just told they're noble, so they don't question why they're fighting. For that same reason, they throw rocks at people who can think.
I hope you make your vassal proud.

and if you don't think being a warrior ((which is more of a mindset of conquering goals and objectives and trying to help people than anything else)) and being a gamer go together I ask you why so many games have fighting? or have legendary exemplar warrior characters as their heroes?
see you betray yourself by your necessity to comment on my idea instead of just saying what you believe. and anything that does not agree with you must be wrong.
Do you want to talk about that?ThrobbingEgo said:I'm a big fan of honesty, clarity, and empathy. These values, I believe shape my morality.
I'm not big on vengeance though. I see it as a mockery of real justice. There are better ways to make things right.
