Next week, Australian Government makes having sex illegal.
With the amount of perversion present in NSW Labor that would never happen. Come on.

I will bring down the fist of Laby upon them if they do.

My puku is not happy with this. Fuck government censorship. This is just further evidence of why we should have a constitutional bill of rights enshrining free speech. My biggest concern is that this is silently going to filter a lot of radical sites giving information on things the government doesn't want known.
Hm, I wonder if they do that the US will swoop in and say BAD AUSTRALIA! One of the good aspects of the US is that we usually intend to do good (not saying we always accomplish good things), and one of the things we would probably step in on is if one of our allies government decided to oppress their own people.
We have too many of our own goddamn problems and we're in no posistion to tell anyone to do anything. We've lost respect inside and out thanks to high commandant asshole in the White House. Obama's whole term is just going to be spent cleaning up the mess...

Doesn't the first Amendment only count on private property?

This annoys me. The government are a bunch of trying to rule us with this idea of . It makes me so !!!
No, we can more or less say whatever the hell we want (to a point- you can't claim your going to kill the President or something) wherever we want without -legal- consequence. Storming into your job screaming expletives will still get you fired.

I though the First Amendment was about the government and free speech: while the government can't legally touch you for saying something (to en extent), owners of private property can ask you to leave, or even sue for defamation.

That blows, and sometimes it makes me glad I don't live in Australia. But when I think that, I'm promptly reminded that in the UAE, we got it worse.

We have Little Big Planet, Call of Duty 4, and Grand Theft Auto 4 banned here, and not only that, movies here are censored like crazy, and the internet sites here are blocked. They banned myspace and Facebook for a little while before the eventually caved in and unblocked them. Flickr is banned over here for no discernible reason except that they think of flickr as some sort of porn site.

I understand why they do that in Dubai though. This is an arab country. They have to conform with the standards of the culture here. But when we're talking about Australia here, that's just horse shit.

Too bad the conservatives only believe in First Amendment rights when it applies to them. Freedom of speech, As long as it's good Christian speech. Preferable if it's denouncing Homosexuals, condemning liberals, or calling Obama a Muslim.

Urging people to murder Homosexuals? Totally fine.
Denouncing Islam as being the cause of terrorism? Sure why not.
Constantly blaming Darwin and Evolution for everything bad that has ever happened? Go for it.
Seperation of Church and state? HATE SPEECH!! CHRISTIAN NATION!! BAAAAAAAAAW!!
may i say spot on?

on topic: that sucks ); why do these people like destroying the lives of Australians???

It's actually not too hard to imagine that this site would be deemed "inappropriate"... I really only come here to watch the Yahtzee diatribes so I can't comment on the rest of the site. However, his videos contain certain words, and imply certain actions, that would be easy to consider as off-limits for the cockwits pushing this legislation.

The blacklist currently, and in the future, will NOT be available even under Freedom of Information. They're at 10,000 sites so far and that's only for the test phase.

There is NO MANDATE regarding the limitations of this proposal. Senator Conroy has made no mention of what "inappropriate" means, though there are indications that the blacklist will include subjects such as abortion, euthanasia and drug use. Nominally this will be for pro- or instructional sites, but I'm sure we all know how good filters are at blocking everything with certain key words.

http://nocleanfeed.com - I'm not associated with them, but it's a good place to start if you want to get involved. Check out the list of issues that the filter will have.

Australians can get used to pinging 9000 if this thing rolls out...

EDIT: Also, Hi everyone!

The irony in this post materialized into a gooey ooze and starting seeping out of my monitor.

Nice try derailing the thread though.

On topic : My condolences to the Aussies out there. Don't know as much as I probably should about your government, but hopefully this gets struck down at some point. Sure, getting rid of the child porn and crap like that may not be a bad thing in and of itself, but giving the government the power to blacklist sites they don't deem worthy of access is a dangerous road to go down. (Not the "ouch I cut off my finger dangerous", the "ouch my rights are waning" dangerous.)

*sigh* 5 years from now when I have nothing but an online dictionary and a picture of Jesus available on the web I'll remember fondly my days here.

I don't get why they are putting it on private connections. They have no real reason and it's just too much. Slower internet, and probably only a few sites left. I bet they'll try to ban gaming/flash games sites alongside the more obvious ones for some idiotic reason.

I wonder what they will move onto next?

1. Urging to kill Gays? Who? Only nut cases say that, and most people are not nut cases.
2. Denouncing Islam? Hmmmmm, I will concede to this point. But for the most part people dont Denounce this. But they dont do it directly, Its more subconsciously then anything.
3. Blaming Darwin and Evolution? No, they have a belief that god created the earth, granted what they believe is wrong. THey can still believe it.

You are retarded, stop watching Msnbc, and the ZEITGEIST for 5 seconds.

People can say what they want, and for the people who believe the above they are on the fringe of society. You need to chill the out, and thank whomever, that you live where you live.

Everything you named is in the minority, of our society no nation is perfect or people, you always will have nut cases. If people were perfect we would not need governments.

In short your an Idiot.
Now that was just plain impolite.

I am aware that the people saying it are a minority. The point is that nobody objects. No one stands up and says, "You know that's some pretty fucked up shit you just said."

But if someone so much as asks them to not put up a manger in the capitol building then all of a sudden it's "Persecution".

The point is that they only care about Free Speech if they (or someone they agree with) is the one speaking. Sure liberals are all about Political correctness. But at least they shut everyone up, rather than only shutting up one side.
Your a idoit still..

And you are the impolite.

Liberal or Neo-Con, they are both wrong. They have turned into the extreme of there ideas, and now disagree or agree on the same thing, for different reasons.

Also people do object to what these Neo-Cons say all the times, same with what liberals say.

The U.S. government doesn't have the moral standing right now to say a damn thing about this (unfortunately) 8 years ago we could have gone to them and said "you make this mandatory and we stop trading with/sanction you." Now we just have to watch.

I've read it 10 times and don't understand what he's trying to say. I thought he was trying to say he was 34 years old at one point, but that doesn't make sense considering the post.

What's with this? I thought Aussies were laid-back happy-go-lucky types, not law-enforcing killjoys. Have I been misinformed?
