Hi guys, finally getting Morrowind from Steam today and wondering what are some good mods to use with it and how I would go about doing it.

Isn't there some graphics resolution mod? I dunno if my laptop could handle it though, it hasn't got a very powerful graphics card.

Do they automatically run with it once on your laptop or do I need to put them in some kind of folder?

Thanks for all the Fallout 1 advice, just finished it today and it was awesome... bloody mess ending was hilarious!

I hear Ultrajoe is an excellent mod. Just be careful, it's been known to cause Magpie infestations in certain parts of the game world.

But I should probably pick up Morrowind one of these days. People say it's good, but it looks so lackluster and dull.

I would also like to say that Morrowind is much better than Oblivion in every way and anyone who disagrees is a big poopy head.

Visually or the gameplay? Because I have to admit, the graphics do look quite dull and "lacking in luster"; I mean, most of the beginning was spent in a swamp, and then you moved onto a sort of rocky, volcanic area. I guess it's not so much the graphics as the real estate, but it did begin to bite on my nerves. The damned dust storms didn't help either.

The gameplay, however, is fantastic. I think the alchemy and lockpicking skills are messy and annoying to try and level up, but for the most part it's very well designed. Plus, I prefer the music in Morrowind. Oblivion was very loud and majestic, but I found the Morrowind's score to be a lot more subtle, and it melts very well into the overall experience.

Oblivion = leveled creatures (blech)
Morrowind = gigantic floating jellyfish [http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Netch#Netch]

No comparison

EDIT: Apologies, I got so caught up in my own opinion, I forgot the thread had a different point. Sorry, I can't really help you with mods at all; I've always been slightly suspicious about user-created content messing with my game files. But I hear there are plenty of excellent graphical overhaul mods, which should be interesting to say the least. Just look around, and be sure to read the reviews, and you're bound to come across a few gems.

Morrowind Graphics Extender, the program that changes resolutions and adds rendering distance, isn't a normal mod, but rather a program that needs to be run before starting morrowind so it can get its hooks into the graphics functions. I don;t know how well it will run on your laptop, but it can;t hurt to try. Get it from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/morrgraphext/

You'll also want some texture mods, but as most of them are fairly good I can't really recommend any particular one.

The site I get most of my mods from is tesnexus.com, which has a good collection of both Morrowind and Oblivion mods. There's no one central site that has every mod, though - wherever you start looking, you're bound to eventually need to go elsewhere for other mods that are only on some other site.

I just made a few stat mods of my own because stat modding is really easy in the editor. I played the game long enough to see what was good about it, and what features were useless. One thing I changed was the alchemy effects on common and rare ingredients. There isn't enough ingredients that grant Restore Magicka, so I added a few. Also, the rare ingredients are more valuable in gold to me than they are for brewing potions that I won't ever drink. I changed it so I can get temporary resist weapon effects, among other things.

I would wait on modding anything more than the textures/graphics until you've played through it a bit. For instance, a few people have said that mages are hard to play as is, but I find that's not the case at all. I generally played a mage/stealth hybrid, and I found that once I hit about level 15, everything got very easy. But in a good way. So the game's not broken in any way if you use magic (unlike Oblivion, whose class/leveling system was just dumb).

What about that magic system.It isn´t all that great in Morrowind.

I say that you should go through your first playthrough without any mods.Then when you have finished it,you shoulod get some mods.

Yeah textures is all I want to enhance at the moment.

So I downloaded Jared's texture mod, do I now need to drag it onto the morrowind file or will it run automatically?

Sorry I'm totally new to this, never used a mod.

I'm finding Morrowind hard to get into, I loved Oblivion and I've played it to death, Morrowind just isn't pulling me in though.

Oblivion = [HEADING=3]MUDCRABS!!! (Shakes fist angrily)[/HEADING]
Morrowind = Cliff Racers *twitch*
Fixed that for you.
Fixed that more.

(Im an anti-crabytist)
Mudcrabs are in both games. Except the ones in Morrowind look like an ambulatory pile of turd with claws.

Pile of turd with claws!

Anyway, get the non-hostile wildlife mod, it means that random animals won't attack you unless they're diseased or you attack first.
